The votes are now there to reopen the government
SkyDekker replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
what do you expect??? This (and high profile pain) is what Obama is going for and as expected, many are falling for his shenanigans This is exactly what the lamestream, lib media wants people to think. As expected the dumbest of them fall for it. -
And yet the people continually vote either Dem or GOP??? I don't get it, I also don't understand why people are so blindly loyal to such self serving rats (regardless of which party they're in). while the blind loyalty is part of it, there is more. The parties have rigged (the best term I can think of right now) the system to help keep these two parties in power. The process of getting signatures and getting on ballots is not simple, and that by design allows the two parties to stay in power Now, some of that complexity might be needed to keep the process from being overrun but, what these parties have done and its effect is overlooked much of the time You chose a good word for it... rigged! Just another way the politicians are certain of 'job security'. Chuck Of course it is "rigged". There is too much money involved for it not to be "rigged". There is a significant risk to creating a small group of incredibly wealthy people. The fear of a plutocracy is what makes people like Warren Buffet speak out about current taxation models. Which makes the standard reply of: Why doesn't he just send in more money, so silly.

I didn't see a straight answer. Did you see one? No, unfortunately I didn't. Though if Bill's post is correct, I am happy to read the issue is resolved. The issue of dealing with next of kin of dead soldiers should not be political at all. I am disgusted with the person who decided this was essential and could be cut, but also disgusted with those who just plainly used it to bash whichever political figure they despise.
-
You have to start wondering how you keep getting there. Maybe the system is just wrong? I find often the starting position is: We are America and do everything the best. Our way is the best. Why can't we get half decent politicians? Maybe the starting point is flawed and material changes are required. I believe that the current US system is flawed and will continue to get worse until massive changes are unavoidable.
-
I say it starts with the people. It is the people who keep voting these politicians in. There are simply too many people who are single issue voters, or who vote strictly by party. The current polarization will continue and get much worse before it gets any better.

Excuse my ignorance on this, but who decided which services were essential and which were non-essential when the government "shut down"?

Vietnam General Vo Nguyen Giap Dies at 102
SkyDekker replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
definitely some sort of irrational rage. Not sure why it was necessary to introduce anti americanism into the thread anyway. Though Giap was an opposing general, it's possible to acknowledge his accomplishments objectively. It's much more likely that he was great than three major powers all sucked. +1 -
I am starting to wonder if rushmc is really Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf.

From what I can tell, this isn't a SC issue, but a much greater USA issue. The two political parties have polarized significantly in the last decade or so, mainly by pandering to their more extreme elements. Currently people are more interested in figuring out how they can blame the other guy, than how they can band together and help/fix the US. Unless there is a large unifying event, I don't see this getting any better any time soon. Nothing will get better as long as Obama is in office What is happening is no acident Remember, he compained on fixing all devides and race issues HE has only made them worse with his child like antics Like I said, more concerned with figuring out how to blame the other guy.

I can't believe Obama is allowing this to happen. Jesus should send some truckers to impeach him!

Oddly enough, though I disagree with many of Ron's stances, I respect him more than some people with whom I agree. There is a big difference between thinking one's self superior and simply noting inferiority when it is manifest. Taking an author to task to avoid addressing content is a sure sign of a mediocre mind. BSBD, Winsor When the content is this "Our CIC's comments, however go well beyond what is required for self-preservation. If he spoke so glowingly about things homosexual I would take it for granted that he was gay (though being gay is like a badge of honor by comparison to being Muslim)" In all reality I thought I was on some sort of hate-mongering website. This content does not warrant address. I suppose it is politically incorrect to think badly of those who have differing values, but I find it hard to admire one who is on the record as 'marrying' a nine year old, and whose exploits include summary decapitation of those who had the temerity to disagree with him. That anyone might speak glowingly of such an individual is similarly questionable. To go all Godwin here, one could consider it remarkable how the economic devastation of the '20s was turned around, and that technological progress was breathtaking, under the leadership of a particular political group without fawning over those in charge of noting how rousing was the 'Horst Wessel Song' I have the same level of contempt for those who think that either 'The Koran' or 'Mein Kampf' is the best book ever, for about the same reasons. If that is unacceptable to you, so be it. BSBD, Winsor The point was that you ascribe that same contempt to Obama based on out of context quotes, because he never could have used those words unless he was Muslim.

Yes, in that it is more easily scammed. Does that fall on the users or the institution? I say they knew human nature and it falls more on the shoulders of the Institution, with a good sized portion on the scammers. I am sorry. Are you saying government is responsible to protect people from themselves, because the individuals simply cannot help themselves?

One of the greatest sports in Islam is killing other Muslims. They may enjoy killing Infidels, but, left to their own devices, they will busy themselves killing those they consider the wrong kind of Muslims - Sunni, Shiite, or what have you. The sentiments voiced by our CIC would be impossible to say with a straight face by anyone who did not buy into the nonsense that is Islam. Speaking glowingly about so pathological a set of values is on a par with fondly discussing the marvels of sex with donkeys; if someone says they think sex with donkeys is wonderful, I assume they speak from firsthand experience and mean what they say, and if they show support for some fatwa or another I have no reason to doubt their sincerity. Indeed, when dealing with a group of violent psychopaths, it is good to remain polite. Being surrounded by a group of people on Harleys that have a common motif on their cutoff jean jackets is a good time to say "hey, nice bike!" Scolding them for their lack of mufflers or explaining how much better is your Japanese motorcycle will not get you too far. Our CIC's comments, however go well beyond what is required for self-preservation. If he spoke so glowingly about things homosexual I would take it for granted that he was gay (though being gay is like a badge of honor by comparison to being Muslim); his sentiments would be inconceivable to one who was not of the faith. Claiming to be convincingly Muslim may be a good idea for him, given that he listed himself to be Muslim in his youth and the Koran is quite specific that an apostate should be summarily killed. Nevertheless, his standpoint on the subject of Islam is somewhere between distasteful and revolting. BSBD, Winsor Just when you thought RushMC was as fucked up as it got.... Few people on SC are more convinced of their own superiority than Winsor and RonD.

Eh... the majority of the House is in theory what represents the majority of the people. That's the basic problem with the American set-up in my opinion. With the offset between presidential and congressional elections, there is a continual fight between which "office" represents the will of the people.

I agree!!! Just yesterday we had one of the biggest liberals on this site, Ron, complain about how his friend's welfare cheque wouldn't really cover her costs anymore and was blaming Obama for it. Obama is Republican right? I think you are lacking in knowledge. I do believe that you don't understand what the difference between something that you pay into and something that is given to you. But then that doesn't surprise me. Interesting. So, that cheque she gets is from the money she paid previously? Or is her money long gone and is the cheque she gets financed by those paying into it now? In socialist Canada we give it to CPP, who then actually invest the money and more or less have to live by the rules governing Pension Funds to ensure adequate reserves are kept. How does that work in the US? You guys must have a significantly better system than us commie socialists. Nope - the politicians stole it. Used it for their own lobbyist's wallets and "stimulus" . . . one of the reasons government should be smaller. In that case Ron's friend wouldn't be getting any money. Why do you hate Ron so much?

Except that would be edited to: it was a no-win propaganda question/move. The question had nothing to do with politics or journalism. It is used to ensure that the publication/website continues to pander to its readers.

I don't know if he's serious, or if he's just making it look good. But if it's for real, there may well be a serious shakeup in the church. Which would be a very good thing. Agreed. His words are very impressive. It is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out.

I'd just like to point out that she had excellent taste in vehicles. I prefer Italian, but the best engine company in Japan that makes vehicles is Honda. For the situation in which she found/placed herself, she should have gone German. You do know that Ford won the best engine in the world award this year, dont you? (BTW, I am not a Ford fan) Don't think Ford is an engine company in Japan though.

What was your coverage and payment before? (And why can you not just keep what you have?)

I thought the American way was just to go out and work hard and make it happen and not blame others (which would include the government?) I thought that those who didn't succeed just didn't work hard enough, that they were simply lazy. I thought that anybody could be succesful? If the above is the case, and this lady is 65, should she not have had more than enough time to make a fortune before Obama screwed it all up? Or, maybe are things not as simple as you guys have led me to believe?
