It is a blessing of thanks for that year's harvest and until Lincoln made it a holiday - was celebrated at different times in different states. Many countries also observe Thanksgiving... not about immigrants - about giving thanks for the harvest (i.e., Japan has a Thanksgiving) True, though currently their Thanksgiving is much more Labor Day. It is called Labor Thanksgiving Day, but did morph from a Harvest festival.

Mark Filip was "Acting" until his senate confirmation. Ummm, Mark Filip was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on March 3, 2008 to be Deputy AG. He became Acting AG after that. The more you think about it, the more amazing the idea becomes that Trump thought Finland has fewer forest fires because they clear their forests better. Is it the fact that even southern Finland is 1500 miles further north than Sacramento that makes it so good? Is it that the average annual temperature of the central region is 20C colder? Is it that much of Finland's forests are under snow for 7 months of the year while much of California's wildfire areas have more summer sunshine hours than almost anywhere else in the world? Maybe it's that most of the space in Finland that isn't forest is either lake or bog instead of arid grassland, or maybe the idea that a country of 5.5M people could ever effectively manage fire suppression over 100,000sq miles of forest in the first place. Put it all together and it might just be my favourite thing he's ever said. Just shows how incredibly stupid the man is. Never mind those who support him. -
