  1. You sure that wasn't the lack of oxygen speaking?
  2. How often do you guys recommend a main inspection? And when you send your main in for a reline, does the manufacturer typically inspect it?
  3. Throw your tent and rig in the back of your car and wheel down to Florida. Crash at the local DZs while you hunt the nearby areas for jobs. If you don't find a job, hey at least you got to hang out at some cool dropzones.
  4. It has nothing to do with a no flair landing and everything to do with how quickly the canopy reacts to user input. Given the same canopy and weight of the user, a 150 will probably be much more agressive than a 170. Mistakes under it are going to be amplified. When you're new you make big mistakes. Big mistakes under a highly loaded canopy are high injury mistakes instead of a bumps and bruises mistake that a lower loading will give you.
  5. "Why didn't you tell us you had a doomsday device?" "We were going to suprise you on your birthday" - or something. Good movie. Dr. Strangelove I believe.
  6. Well, I'm no expert But first thing is to keep it slow. You don't have to buy your own gear right off student status. Learn about the gear, get advice from the people at your dropzone and then go to the gear forum here and ask questions. For example people here are recommending Triathalons. Go to the gear review section and read up the reviews on that canopy. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the manuals for that canopy. Just narrow down your choices, then ask more specific advice on whatever gear you happen to like. All the gear is "good" gear. No one is producing crappy containers or canopies. It mostly comes down to preference and price. Once you start looking over the options you'll naturally get a feel for it. Then when some newbie asks you what canopy he should jump you'll tell him to buy a Triathalon because you owned one. Btw, buy a Triathalon. They're a great canopy.
  7. That looks cool. And yes I'm jelous, I got one of those butt ugly stock color Triathalons.
  8. Dude that's awesome. I'm just hoping they get my complicated color scheme right *hint hint to anyone who's reading*
  9. Holy crap, I agree with Lisa. I owe beer Seriously though. You choose your main based on how hard you want to wipe out, not on how well you land on the average landing. I'm hoping my eventual injuries under my 1.1 loaded Triathalon will be bruises and sprains instead of broken bones and compound fractures, it's why I chose a docile canopy.
  10. I'd think I'd go main first because: 1> It'll slow you down. 2> If it gets messed up from my bad body position I'll may be slower and more stable when I cutaway and go to reserve. But it's not like there's really a right or wrong answer.
  11. Shit, peeps in the space shuttle will be able to call you up and tell you where it is.
  12. Actually Stacy, she'll be at the camp til Saturday and will probably be looking for a ride out to a local DZ that day. I think her plane back is Monday morning. If you could hook her up for a ride Saturday/Sunday I'm sure she'd buy ya booze

    Happy hour

Nothing to be jelous of. She probably doesn't jump anymore because it's bad for her hair or something

    Happy hour

Actually Paula, I think she is a skydiver.

Happy hour go BOOM! But, do we have boobies? Yes. All is well.
  16. Dunno, owned the damn thing for over a year and haven't jumped it yet
  17. Rhino it's comments like yours that made me buy a Triathalon for my first canopy.
  18. On my 15 second delay I ended up on my back after leaving the plane. My first thought was that I needed to get stable. My second one was that if I couldn't get stable in 1 try I'd have to deploy on my back since my deployment altitude was coming up. Luckily I got stable.
  19. You guys should get kickbacks from PD. I just ordered a set of Slinks for my new rig.
  20. Ack, I'm blind! The colors! The colors!
  21. Geek for a tech company down in Boca Raton.
  22. Have fun, and don't wear out the instructors. I'm gonna need one of them when you're done.
  23. First jump: because I was bored with my life. Next 16 jumps: because I don't like to quit and my instructors kept me motivated. Why I'm still jumping: I want to be able to fly my body. It just seems like a totally free way to express yourself.
