  1. Why can't you use the solo time to learn how your body reacts to doing different things in the airflow?
  2. I'm curious if there are supposed to be any pros to the Vigil outside of the easier maintenance requirements and price.
  3. Chicken s#@t.... common sense. It's a fine line.
  4. I thought it was interesting, if for no other reason than it showed off base jumping and wingsuits on prime time TV.
  5. My favorite was how the safety guy said base jumping wasn't unsafe and that driving a car on the roads was probably more dangerous. Um, okay.
  6. PISA and Atair probably use different measuring methods, so it may very well be that they're closer in size than the 130 vs 150 would normally seem. I guess a PD 143 and Tempo 150 are supposed to be about the same size.
  7. I don't think it's a FAA reg in the US, but a USPA rule. All student rigs are required to have AADs. I could be wrong, but I didn't think the FAA had too many rules covering skydiving(a self regulated sport). In an emergency everyone is resposible for themselves. If a SL student's main doesn't open on a "normal" jump the JM isn't going to magically float down and save their lives. I think in this case the JM notified everyone of the emergency, then got the hell out of the way by exiting.
  8. It was my understanding that students aren't ever supposed to owe beer. Buy the beer for your AFF graduation.
  9. Why not buy the rig, keep the tempo and spend the extra money on jumps.
  10. LOL, hadn't thought of video and coaching. Wonder if I'll need hand signals(relax, legs out, arch, looking good!). Yeah, I took the beer up last weekend. Was too windy for me to jump though. I'm hoping this weekend is better.
  11. I remember after the first time I had sex I thought, "So this is what all the fuss was about?". I remember after the first time I jumped, right after the canopy opened I yelled out loud, "Holy shit, I can't believe I just did it!" I'm still very vocal under a freshly opened canopy.
  12. Heh. I wonder how many people have more jump numbers than they have romps in the bed?
  13. A bill introduced by a senator doesn't mean anything. I once saw a senator introduce a bill calling for a 1000% tax increase on 9mm ammo, because he personally had a thing against guns. That doesn't mean Congress supported it.
  14. Real war? Iraq is the only type of "real war" we'll be seeing anytime soon. No one can invade us, we'd nuke their homeland and 125 million people own guns in this country. Any external flame-ups are first going to go through a fun debate orgy at the UN. We'd have time to shift around our external troops. It's quality, not quantity. That's why we lost 500-ish troops in Iraq and they lost way way way more.
  15. Post the (reputable)links that show Congress is trying to pass this. The military itself doesn't want a draft because a voluntary armed force is much more effective than a conscripted one. And unless we're going up against China any time soon, I don't see where we're currently lacking in troop numbers. It's been brought up before by one or two larks, but Congress has always shot the subject down.
  16. Yeah, but the problem is even the "old toys" can still kill you. There have been 2 outs due to Cypres fires all the time, but when it happens it's(usually) because the guy was an idiot for pulling too low. It's not even an event that makes it into the mags most of the time. Unfortunately for Vigil when it happens to them, people are going to tear it apart because they're the new kids on the block.
  17. Yep, they're definately why I'm still in the sport today. Paul and Bo both have a real love of the sport and it just rubs off on you. Plus they're excellent instructors. I came to Goshen after doing a FJC at another DZ and when Bo had learned I didn't do any practice reserve pulls there(just saw them done by another person), he pulled me aside and spent 20 minutes with me doing nothing but reserve deployment practice. At the DZ they were always going over safety issues while talking with you as a student. Not just what to do to be safe, but how to think safely. Bo is still the little voice of safety in my head today. Guys, do what you can to get these two birds back up in the sky.
  18. I was toying with the idea of putting together a list of all my doctors(family doctor, dentist, orthodontist, eye guy, etc) and giving it to my emergency contact along with any family contacts. That way if ended up injured and the doctors at the hospital needed pre-injury information(xrays, MRI, EKG and so on) on me they could get to it.
  19. Why can't you disclose how many units are in the US and why can't we see more of the test data? I worry less about getting the perfect product and worry more that the company selling me the product won't tell me it's not perfect. I'm sure Airtec doesn't go around advertising their misfires, but we've had years of "public" data showing when and how they mess up.
  20. Yeah. If this is the same boyfriend that got pissed about the riggers not packing his worn out 20 year old reserve(and won't jump at that dropzone anymore because of it), and now he won't jump at this dropzone because of exiting issues, you might want to get a new boyfriend before you run out of dropzones.

    MMORPGs

You should give AC2 a try. It's a pretty casual friendly game.
  22. I remember that. I think the problem was that the user used to have rapid links with bad bumpers which beat up the slider grommet causing nicks. So if you're going from hard metal to slinks, make sure your slider grommets aren't chewed up.
