Intro: Newish skydiver in FL, USA says hello!
MarkM replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Introductions and Greets
Yep that was me. Looks like I'll be buying all the beer for that place until the next newbie comes along. Funny thing is I HAD to nail that landing, because I really didn't want to PLF on asphalt. Guess all I really lacked was the proper motivation. Though you should've seen JC as I was flying over him in the student area. He was like pointing wildly to good landing spots and saying "WTF you doing, there's acres to land on out here?!" Missed Roberta's video, but I saw Roberta. I don't doubt she's awesome, there's a lot of really skilled people out there. It's a great dropzone to learn things at. -
When I was blowing my practice ripcord pulls the only way I finally passed was by hitting a swimming pool and do 100 perfect practice pulls in the pool. That trained my body so even while stressed during the jump when I thought "pull" it just knew what to do without me going through the steps mentally.

I failed a crap load of my practice ripcord pulls when I did static line progression before making ever making freefall. So I know what it's like to fail a lot. When I started AFF I already had something like 17 jumps under my belt, and I have NO idea how anyone passes those early AFF levels without any prior jumping. There's just so much going on, lot's to process and deal with. But I also did some wind tunnel training before doing AFF and it did really help me. A lot. I guess it comes down to how much wind tunnel training you're talking about. A decent amount will probably help you pass your later levels as well.

No idea who the red head was, but she was cute Were you up at SOBE today? I met a Jeffrey, barefoot, not too sure if it was you though. He had a small mini compass on the band of his wristwatch. I remember thinking on the ride up, "If you need that to find your way back to DZ, you're probably waaaay out." -
Feed the addiction: ftp://ftp.jaffie.com/Public/freefly/ The first half of PioneersInSpaceL.avi has some truly amazing stuff. A couple in orange and red did some things that just blew my mind.

They're too busy making kick ass rigs.

The second pic looks great. Of course chicks all geared up to jump always look hot. Keep the length and color and just tie it back. It looks nice like that.

My camera blows, but it gives you an idea.

Contemplating buying my first rig

Here's the sizing charts for Mirages. http://www.miragesys.com/order/sizing_chart.html It says you can safely drop down 1 size and that would be a 170 ZP. -

Gosh no. I've never seen it before... -
The base was at the south pole?

Here's another riddle. What's red and green and goes round and round.

I thought that's what vibrators were for.... I'm not a machine damnit!

People will probably want to know the price that's being asked, the DOM on all the pieces and how many jumps have been done on the Raider.

Tie dye, don't forget the tie dye. If you're gonna freefly the rig, it's like a law. Has to be tie dyed.

JC at SOBE is watching me like a hawk, so he has my progression covered. But if Benny is the Ashman, then I'm the Grassman. My jumpsuit has the stains to prove it. Maybe him and I could find a Mudman, Cornkiller, Treethumper and Barbie(barb wire fence expert) and form some sort of extreme stunt crew dog team.

When I did static line practice ripcord pulls in the US we used a dummy throw out but didn't actually throw it away, we held onto it. The practice pulling was mainly to show you could find it and remove it while arching and leaving the plane. Skydive Fort Wayne had been doing that since around the mid 90's, because the owner, AJ, had always felt it was safest to start students on the pull method they'd be using as experienced skydivers. If you want you can contact them and ask more detailed questions about the method and any potential problems. http://www.subterminal.com/skydiveftwayne/

Just cuz I own it, don't mean I'm allowed to fly it yet I asked because the student rig is uncomfortable as hell and I'm dying to be able to use my own stuff. I was just sort of suprised to see a wing load transition so fast and was curious what was considered normal. It wasn't an attempt to start a flame.

Potentially dangerous situation in thick cloud - any advice?

Just put one of these babies on your helmet. There's no problem a little extra gear and duct tape can't solve. -
Some of my instructors used to recommend yoga to me.

Tight-nit community? LOL Would that be the "Femur Fuck'd-ups?"
