  1. Between start to finish I had 5 or 6 instructors and 3 different training methods(SL, AFP and AFF) so yeah, I wouldn't worry. Worst case, if they still don't have a plane this weekend, the weather's good and you're still itching for air you could just pound out your level 7 at Homestead, Clewiston or Sebastian. I was up at Sebastian yesterday and got a couple items done on my A card. No problems. The DZs are pretty good about things like that.
  2. I think if you lose it or break it you buy it, but if you use it then it's just a normal part of using the gear.
  3. All I know for sure is that they're looking for a plane to replace the Otter, as it flew home. Did you finish off your AFF before all hell broke loose?
  4. Check out http://www.cajunchickens.com/files/2003yearend.wmv and at about 4:20 into the video you'll see a really nice track done by (I think) PhreeZone. I basically used that body position as a guideline for when I was practicing tracking after AFF. I hope it was correct, because that's how I track now
  5. I have 50 jumps and am under a Tri 160 loaded at 1.05 and it's been a good canopy for me even in one of those "less than ideal" landing situations. It'll cripple me if I do something really stupid under it, but frankly I don't think it's the 1:1 - 1.1:1 first time canopy buyers that are causing craters. It's when I get a couple hundred more jumps under my belt, start to think I'm invincible and get a 1.4:1 canopy that will be the time I screw up and instead of breaking my leg like I would under my old canopy, I'll shatter my body instead.
  6. When I was renting gear it was the same rigs the AFF students were using, so I was basically sharing their gear. In a day I might have jumped two different rigs because they needed one or another for a student on any given jump.
  7. Most of the swoopers at SOBE don't need the whistles, you can hear their sliders flapping from a mile away. Which is good, because it gives you time to dive to the ground. Myself, I just one of those air horns and honk at people to get out of my way.
  8. Just hang out at the airport and bum rides off the people coming in to refuel. "Hey man, can you take me up to 15k and just drop me off?"
  9. How exactly do you know this incident was caused by the PC being in the burble?
  10. If the guy can jump a round loaded with 80lbs+ of gear into enemy fire, I think he'll be able to manage AFF.
  11. I swear that place used to be a native american burial ground or something. There's like a DZ curse there. Maybe an Exorcism Boogie wouldn't be a bad idea. We could do a bonfire, purify the ground with quality tequila, the works.
  12. Probably just due to there being more people in the sport now. I couldn't imagine anyone having a "I guess I'll just wait for my Cypres to fire" attitude, while the ground is rushing up at them. But then I do tend to have a pretty upbeat view of humanity, so I could be wrong.
  13. Unfortunately some of us call these DZs home and everything is SO ambiguous right now the rumor factory is starting to run with it. And with the way the skydiving community likes to gossip, I'd image the word on the back channels by next week will be that all parties involved are getting a sex change operation and Disney is buying Ron out and painting the plane like Dumbo the elephant.
  14. So says the girl who moved to FL to jump
  15. I've seen some short prickly bushes(the ones with the white hairlike thorn bristles) out in the newbie landing area at SOBE, I've been waiting for jeffry to slide through one of those on a landing But seriously though, my mother always liked to run around barefoot and the bottom of her feet are like hard leather. Not much phases her. Myself I have trouble walking on the beach because the sand is too hot.

    Circumcision

I think all Muslims are required to be circumcised. Something to do with the religion. I would say 50% of the world is circumcised? From http://www.familymedicine.co.uk/features/circum3.htm
  17. No jumps, my ribs were still too sore from last weekend's bad opening. Too bad too, because I really wanted to jump my new neptune(toys toys toys). Hopefully I'll feel good enough for jumping next weekend.

    Circumcision

So when they say that eating a low fat diet can potentially reduce the risk of heart disease or that smoking may cause cancer, they're not talking "actually"? Their statement meant that while there is data to support the idea of health benefits, it's not enough for them to recommend the routine use of circumcision. It's pretty much up to the parents.

    Circumcision

How is this studied? You could only ask people who've had it done later in life and you can't conclude that the results would be the same as having it done right after birth. Do uncircumcized men not last as long as circumcized mean during sex? Is there a higher occurance of preamuture ejaculation in uncircumcized men?
  20. Is there any way they could do the 8 year service now and just mark the unit to be retired early?
  21. No capacity under the law, sure. But otherwise? I don't think so. We let 16 year olds drive cars, that's hardly safe behavior. 12 year olds ride around on bikes in traffic daily, that ain't safe. 18 years olds are adults under the law, but we still don't let them drink alcohol in most states until they reach 21. Capacity isn't an on or off thing, there are degrees to it. For a kid raised around a dropzone all his life I'd say it's likely he has a better idea of the risks at 12 then I did when I started at 29.
  22. Uh yeah sure, it was the jump that caused the reaction.
  23. Yeah, but it's hard to sell "eat right and exercise" on a menu or book.
