  1. Gotta agree with sbs here. Don't make a big production out of it, it scares chicks off. Next time you see her at class ask if she wants to go grab lunch or a cup of coffee. If she likes you she'll tag along for the opportunity to get to know you. Then after you've talked a bit you can decide if she's someone you'd want to drag out to a dropzone or do some photography with.
  2. In the words of Homer Simpson to his son: "Don't try. Trying can lead to failure." Personally, I intend a long life full of failures. Figure how you're gonna play your life, then just DO it. You want this girl? TAKE her, she's right there man. Nobody but you is can stop you if it's what you want. Remember your first jump? What was harder, leaving the plane or getting on it in the first place? That's the metaphor for all life baby.
  3. Skydive America Palm Beach is in Pahokee. It's about 30 miles west of West Palm Beach, pretty close to Clewiston. Oh well. Looks like I need a new dropzone. Anyone want to open up a DZ in Fort Lauderdale? I know about 8 pilots.
  4. Rumormill has Skydive America Palm Beach closing down? Anyone have solid info on this? I rode up there Sunday before I heard this and the hanger was closed. Was a bit overcast, but that'd hardly stop any serious skydiver :)
  5. Gotta agree with Carl. One of the things I did before even my first jump was read a couple years worth of incident reports. They give you a solid idea of what NOT to do in this sport.
  6. Good rule. Make your skydiving decisions on the ground before the jump. Make your jump decisions at home before you get to the DZ.

    My new Canopy

Buwahahahaha. I'd send this to my friends, but they'd never understand.
  8. Heh, well I'm sure as hell not a POP or SOS guy but my container is a 92 EOS. No velcro on the lower part of the rig, but I do have some velcro on my reserve riser covers. No main riser covers on it at all though which really freaks some people out.
  9. PC in tow = total mal = go straight for reserve. Or am I remembering my training wrong?
  10. Another option is the Florida Orlando area. You'd have access to the wind tunnel there to train your free fall skills and Deland is right near by for AFF training.

    taboo????

Hey Mandy. I'd have to side with the "wait until you're off student status" crowd.
  12. SSH uses encryption on the data stream so your session can't be snooped. It also checks keys between hosts and will warn you if the target machine has been switched. The best feature of SSH though is that it'll encapsulate your X windows protocol stream. Not a big deal if you're on windows, but going Unix to Unix it means I can run remote graphical applications locally even through a firewall.
  13. Was curious about this too. How long do you have to worry about those flaps they cut open on your eye membranes? I'd be concerned about the high wind velocity ripping them back open, exposing your eyes. Even with goggles you can get a pretty high airflow going through them.
  14. Sorry diver. "It's a guy thing" happens all the time, you really don't need a special event for it. Hell, last night a total stranger and my friend got to talking about their bikes. The guy let my friend take his R1 out for a spin so he could see what it was like. It was beautiful man, beautiful.
  15. Yep, but at least skydiving chicks pretty much have the first 8 down pat. Now I just need to find one who's as screwed up as I am.
  16. Well I can always buy a new rig babe, but you're gonna have to move down to Florida. LMAO. So true. My list of requirements for a wife are also pretty short: 1) Won't try to drag me out shopping. 2) Is willing to have sex whenever I want(which is a lot) 3) Knows that my not calling her has nothing to do with Her: I'm just not a phone person. 4) Has a job and actually wants to pay for things. 5) Can deal with my risky hobbies(skydiving, racing). I might give these up for a child, but not a mate. 6) Has a good sense of humor. 7) Looks decent, but isn't hung up on her looks. 8) Isn't the Helpless Woman our society tends to produce: if her car had a flat she'd actually try to fix it. 9) Can put up with me I'm gonna be single a loooong time.

Goshen Indiana, SL jumps were 45 and in Waterloo Indiana they were 50. FJC up in Waterloo was about 130 I think.
  18. As a full time Linux sysadmin and web developer, I'd say study up for that MCSE. The MCSE cert isn't really worth crap, but it'll get you into your local IT department. Once you're there and you can show you actually have a brain(a lot of MCSEs are idiots), you can start in on some more serious training and have the company foot the bill. There's some SERIOUS money in Cisco engineering, but those certs are downright hard. But that's a good thing because unlike your MCSE it'll actually be worth more than the paper it's written on to guys who know anything about IT. Linux is in a lot of shops but it isn't really noticable because they "just run". I put a pair of internet servers up in Indiana when I worked there, left back in October and they're still humming along with zero supervision. So while Linux is out there, the PHBes just don't realize they need a Linux geek because the boxes never break down.
  19. Yeah, and I'm sure the extra 80+ pounds of gear these guys carry don't help.

    IQ Test

Got 3, read I should've had 6. Counted 5 on the 2nd and 3rd tries. Tried it backwards, got 5. Did it AGAIN, got 6! Woohoo! My name is Mark. I ride the little yellow bus to skool.

    Landings suck!

When you underload a canopy flaring doesn't produce the same behavior as a heavier loaded canopy. Good for you. Most dropzones put all students under the same 280+ sq foot canopies. And since GIRLs tend to weigh less than GUYs, they land harder on a good flare. Hence Pammi's:

    Landings suck!

I think part of the problem is that the student canopies are so big. If you're a 180 lb guy you can get a decent flair from one. But if your a 120 lb chick flaring won't do shit.

    tits and gonads

    Practice, practice, practice.
  24. You know you're a skydiver when half your friends are pilots and you're constantly begging them for a "ride up" when they do their commercial flights. "Just log me onto the cargo manifest"
  25. A tension knot is a packing error. Some lines get bunched up a little, form a loop, another line gets threaded into that loop and it ties into a knot.
