Comprehensive Pro-Gun Bill Georgia Law 23 Apr 14
Andy9o8 replied to RonD1120's topic in Speakers Corner
One particular aspect of HB 60 that I liked is, after 1 July concealed carry is permitted in church and in bars. The church has to opt in and the bar has to opt out. Praise the lord and pass the ammunition. Oh - and hold my beer and watch this. -

I hear they passed a pro-cheese law in Wisconsin. Shocking. -
I have a dream sequence.

News Reporting of Skydiving Accidents
Andy9o8 replied to Boogers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not too many years ago, a former jump pilot who turned anti-DZ would occasionally fly his private plane under our jump run at about 1500 AGL. He at least once videoed all the canopies opening above him. He then took the video to a local news station with the startling story of how the skydivers were a hazard to all aviation. They ate it up and advertised the upcoming story. Our DZ got in touch with the news program to tell them the truth about it all. They couldn't have cared less. A sensational story of dangerous, reckless skydivers sells much better than a disgruntled man trying to cause trouble for others. I realize it's too late now in that case, but local news stations are competitive with each other. They might not openly call each other goat-rapists like Fox & MSNBC do, but they sometime enjoy a chance to stick it to each other. Next time that happens, contact one of the station's competitors, tell them what tools Station KXYZ have been, and give them a chance to do a nice informative (read: softball) piece about local skydiving and accuracy of reporting. Might work. -
It might be called "Joe the Plumber Syndrome." 'Memba this? http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/joe-plumber-publishes-racist-article-blog-article-1.1484131

Every law should be like this, IMO. Curse you, and your future generations.

...then all the joy would go out of life.

If that's what he was saying, he'd have said it. Have you stopped beating your wife yet?

And it was practically the only tree! Considering most people's PLF skills, or lack of them, it's probably just as well the tree caught him. Classic target fixation!

The story linked in your OP seems over-simplified, i.e., it looks like chunks of facts that should have been described in sequence are selectively missing from the narrative. Very much like when hearing only one side of an argument. But... I don't have time to research the story out. So get to work, and come back and report to us. Please be fair, balanced and unafraid.

Nope, it seems resolved now. Thanks.

Why do you hate veterans? Oh, wait, this isn't Speaker's Corner. Never mind.

Pfft. Tree landing. What a turkey!

In Spanish, "no va" means "doesn't go". That's no coincidence.

News Reporting of Skydiving Accidents
Andy9o8 replied to Boogers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, ya think? Massive wipeouts of posts in 2 of the Incidents threads overnight. It's really a shame they can't/don't spin those off into a new thread instead of just "disappearing" so many otherwise-thoughtful posts so they can't be seen. The net effect of that really dilutes the overall value of the Incident forum. Yeah, I understand the rebuttal to that, but I'm hardly the first one to comment on it. Anyhow, to help continue the conversation, here are a few comments that got deleted. Maybe people can pick it up from here, if they choose: ================================== Unlike all the other times when a DZ is totally open and the news still says whatever they feel like, huh? Let's draw from Twardo's post #6 in the Grove City injury thread. If you have a designated spokesperson at a DZ after an incident, that hopefully will at least increase, even if not guarantee, the chance of more factually accurate reporting by a reporter who will almost certainly be a layperson to the very specialized subject of skydiving. On the other hand, if the DZ simply goes silent, then in many cases - and this does seem to be one - that probably increases the chances of factually poor reporting like "it's not known if the wingsuit parachute opened properly", etc. Another aspect of sensible post-incident conduct by a DZ is not just informational, but also behavioral. Crosskeys is a busy, larger DZ which is situated partly among heavily residential neighborhoods. Of course they have their share of incidents; and some of the accidents, not just this one, have had landing/impact points on nearby residents' properties. So community relations is always a potential issue. So community relations is always a potential issue. That being the case, I don't see how the DZ management could not anticipate how resuming jumping just 2 hours after a fatality that landed in a nearby resident's back yard would be viewed, and reported on. =============================================== Well, more lately they've learned to weasel-word it by just saying "parachute (or equipment) failed", often leaving out the phrase "to open". You know, much like if you don't step on your car's brakes in time to avoid hitting the tree, they'd report that "your brakes failed to save you from the collision." Maybe technically partly true on some sort of level, and thus facially defensible if later challenged, but utterly misleading as to genuine causation. Again, we're talking about reporters who usually have almost zero of the specialized knowledge needed to properly understand skydiving and its equipment, under intense pressure to get a report in by deadline, often working on many other stories, too. So having a designated DZ spokesman as Twardo suggests, that might reduce the potential for inaccurate reporting by lay reporters. -
Hello. It's back today, on my smartphone (Android, Samsung Galaxy). This time it's on the left margin of the screen, w/no way to clear it.

Marshal kills Utah gang defendant who rushed court witness
Andy9o8 replied to JerryBaumchen's topic in The Bonfire
Hi Jerry. I saw the story this morning. When I read your thread title I hoped that a mature discussion of the subject would be possible. Not sure of that from what I've seen subsequent to your OP so far, but I'll give it a ...shot. I've worked in and observed courtrooms all over the US for over 30 years. Security in criminal-case courtrooms is frequently poor, and leads to the potential for incidents like this. In many other countries, defendants are seated in a secure "dock", but that isn't done in the US because (among other reasons) that inhibits the kind of immediate private conversation between lawyer and client that (believe me) really is necessary to effect "right to counsel" during a trial. If the only or best way to prevent or stop this from happening was to shoot the defendant in the courtroom, then security had already utterly failed before he ever jumped out of his chair. Perhaps he could have been cuffed to his table, although that visual image creates a constitutional grey area itself with a jury trial. Clearly, there were not enough security officers posted near the defendant's chair. That aside, this could have been prevented by proper courtroom design: creating physical barriers between the defense table, the witness box, and the rest of the courtroom. I'm only sympathetic for the witness that got attacked. Of course the defendant made his own bed, but I don't have much sympathy for the security personnel, either. They totally fucked this up. -
Well, you know the old saying: you can tune a samisen, but you can't tuna fish.

I suppose you can think of it as a Rorschach test. Those who like me see a coming of age young punk sitting at the edge of a river bank quietly contemplating life and God. Those who don't like me see a young punk sucking his thumb with a finger stuck up his ass... Aren't you the guy who had an avatar on here a while back, pointing a gun directly at the viewer? Yeah, that really emphasized the non-coercive nature of religion.

Conveniently labeling an obnoxious and intrusive practice a "major tenet of one's faith" does not make it any less obnoxious or intrusive. That's just self-enabling of bad behavior. By all means, set up a kiosk in the public square if you wish; and if I choose to approach and inquire, or even avail, I'll do so. But please stop knocking on my door or presuming to approach me to ask, "Are you saved?" It's none of your fucking business.

It's the second item on this page: http://avstop.com/ac/prh/chapter2_11.html. Commonly used for round sport parachutes to smoothly stage the deployment, as an alternative option to a bag. (I'll let others with more knowledge of military use speak to whether it was/is used for round canopies in military freefall application.). Basically, instead of the canopy being folded into it, like with a bag, the canopy is flaked, then laid out lengthwise, then the bag is slipped over the flaked canopy (kind of like slipping a sock over a foot), then the lines are stowed on the sleeve, then the sleeved canopy is folded into the container from the bottom up. Back when round canopies were common in sport skydiving, I'd venture a wild guess that about 80-90% of them, especially on the civilian side, used sleeves rather than bags.

I too am curious why you don't want to bag the T-10 as God intended. Are you a Communist?
