Officer charged with murder after shooting man in back
Andy9o8 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
No. Short answer, that's not what felony murder is, unless the other officer's actions were unlawful and those unlawful actions contributed to the decedent's death. Planting the taser was unlawful, and the other officer's not reporting it (if indeed he saw it and failed to report it or reported something contrary to fact) may have also been unlawful, but that happened subsequent to the shooting. -

Well, I knew what you meant. -
A fascinating question. I've never had occasion to think about it in just that factual form before. Personally, I'll still need to ponder it.

I believe that an angry family is part of the picture here, certainly. I also believe politics is another part of the story. The man who is charged was, until recently, a Republican lawmaker. The prosecutor who decided to proceed with charges is a Democratic appointee. My gut tells me that's not the main factor, although I'm not ignoring it. I suppose it may be relevant how much influence the ex-lawmaker continues to wield. I wouldn't discount the angry family factor too soon, though. Adult children of recently-widowed elderly parents often worry about their parent being exploited by the new spouse should he/she remarry, on multiple conceivable levels (financial, physical, emotional, etc.). Or, sometimes they just plain dislike the new stepparent, for whatever reason(s). I've seen and heard of that happening many times. This feels to me to be an offshoot of that dynamic.

I don't think lawyers 'scurry'. isn't the term "scuttles"? sometimes they 'scatter' when the lights come on too When I sing jazz, I sometimes scat. -
You sure about that? These days, most states use debit cards for their SNAP benefits programs, meaning there's no paper stamps, thus no cash "change". From a quick Google search, it appears that Texas is one of them? Clarify?

This. Does each country have to have its own Perris crash to appreciate the risk?

Senator Feinstein wants to ban a 45 year old book
Andy9o8 replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
No country allows everything to be printed. What's your point? Every country is run by assholes? Yes, I agree. I'd like to minimize the assholery, personally. Perhaps you can start by telling Feinstein's grandchildren why you want their grammy to shoot herself to death with a shotgun. Sure. "Your grandmother has dedicated her life's work to making the country a worse place. She supports murder by the state, she supports censorship by the state, and she supports violation of civil liberties in general by the state. She does not care about the right to free speech, which is one of the most important principles upon which our society is based. I don't think she should be harmed or killed by others, but if she were to kill herself she would finally do something to make the country a better place." Welcome back. You'll do well here. -
Overweight, Elderly, Uncurrent Skydiver

Agreed. Every jumper has the right to decide his own acceptable level of risk, and every DZO has the right to decide not to be the instrument of someone's enhanced risk of self-maiming. -

I believe I already have.

Well then I guess not everyone can sit at your lunch counter. You do know it's no longer 1962, don't you?

Virtual Reality a LEGAL Substitute for Actual Reality?
Andy9o8 replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Not in every state. For example, in some states, upon formal request, some courts allow mortgage foreclosure actions to proceed via posting on the door of last known address, or newspaper + local legal journal publication, etc. 50 states plus D.C., 51 separate sets of civil practice rules. -
Virtual Reality a LEGAL Substitute for Actual Reality?
Andy9o8 replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
In some jurisdictions courts allow service of civil process via newspaper publication after all other attempts at service have been exhausted. This is just a logical modern extension of the same principle. -
The part that kinda sorta implies that poor ole Mr. Wholesome Pizza Guy gets inundated with all these catering requests from rainbow weddings, and he just has to fight them off. As if. Is that why all these donations are being made? To offset the lost income from the gay weddings he was forced to cater until this law was signed? Kinda queer, ain't it?

It's right near the Tri-State region.
