Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
Andy9o8 replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My litigation attorney brain figured they'd probably do that after the site visit the very first time I read that the site visit would take place. I can almost guarantee you the plan to discredit the site visit, one way or another, was formed before the visit even took place. I'd have been shocked if they hadn't filed this motion... or done something like it. Oh, well, they're nothing if not predictable. Hopefully the court will see this predictable move for what it is. -
Why not offer to take it home and run it thru the washer? Not sure it would survive a wash cycle lol. Might see if I can use the next size up. Lots of DZs really appreciate a little bit of volunteer help and there from their jumpers. Volunteering to wash a few of their jumpsuits would not only increase the supply of cleani(ish) jumpsuits, it's an excellent suck-up to the DZO, especially for a student. A win-win for everybody. There are more ways to spread good will at a DZ besides just bringing beer.

Agreed. I'm all in favor of starting out on S/L and then transferring over to AFF. Lots of students on S/L progression (RAPS) struggle with instability on the shorter freefall jumps due to poor body position they're not even aware of due to sensory overload. "You kicked your legs; go back up and do it again. And relax!" isn't very effective instruction. Been there, did that. S/L is a great way to punch through sensory overload and concentrate solely on the basic staying-alive skills; then AAD is a great way to learn freefall stability and control. That's why I'm in favor of hybrid training programs, which IMO not nearly enough DZs offer or encourage.

Woman fails crucial test for FDNY is still passed.

No, that's more of a police issue - the more fat-ass donut-eaters there are who don't have to meet physical standards anymore, the more dark-hued perps get back-shot. -

Oh, fuck. That can mean anything. -
Please stop quoting my wife. She can speak for herself. I'm sure she's right but is she a-cutie? you are such a square when you go off on tangents like that (I'm rooting for at least 3 more obvious posts along these lines) Depends on the angle at which you approach this.

Andy9o8 replied to promise5's topic in Speakers Corner
My point being: you expressly presumed that she'd be putting others' lives at risk. That is a separate issue from the issue of personal integrity. If it turns out that the test you passed was less stringent than the one she took, does that logically mean that you're putting lives at risk? ETA: I'm not being obtuse about the points you're making, in general, and I realize you feel strongly about the topic. I just wonder if you're being presumptuously harsh in labeling her as putting other lives at risk. To be fair, I'd welcome perspective of other past or present firefighters on that. -

Have we established that the requirements you passed on your test would necessarily have resulted in a passing score under strict application of all FDNY test standards? -

Decompresion question on freefall dynamics
Andy9o8 replied to kallend's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I thought you re-compress in freefall, not decompress. Explain. -
You know, I hear that 80% is consumed by Ag! What's with that?

Abbott basically sent a guy to meetings. He created a communication channel that is under his control. Because Walmarts have been closed for 6 months to have them prepared to be used as detention centres. A state government is worried about the federal government invading it. Is that what he told you he was thinking when he decided to assign that guy to attend those meetings? Because i have it from a friend in the TSG who works on the logistics & communications side of the house that this was planned long before the meeting in Bastrop County. This was planned because this is the first ever of it's size training event. It's taking place in public view with public interaction and in some cases without the public being informed of the when & where. That's just the nature of the training event. It seems prudent to have someone (retired military) sit in the briefings to inform the gov of anything that might be an issue from a citizens rights point of view. In hindsight, it's also pandering. But he's a politician. I'd expect no less. -
As family dogs everywhere will gladly attest.

A low-flow toilet uses 1.6 gallons (or less) per flush. So flushing just once per day, 30 gallons would be used up in 19 days. I'm no techie by any stretch, but I've always been incredulous that fully-treated, potable water is used to flush toilets.

Ah. Difference being, peeing on a fire to put it out; growing a beard or mustache; or looking silly with a pot belly, bald head and goatee are not necessarily exclusive to men. Ya. Your post fails. You and your elk. -

Good. Now you know how those of us in the military felt when the standards were being lowered to allow for a higher enlistment or retention of women. Right on, bro! That's what we have the Navy for! -
Wait - there are lots of municipalities all over the country that charge users for water (or water/sewer) as a utility on an amount-used basis, just like electricity or gas. Am I missing something that you guys understand?

I would have hoped they'd be willing to drag anybody, not just those with disabilities.
