9 out of 10 of you in here are confusing "being gay" with "choosing to have gay sex, for whatever reason." Reconcile that first, or the rest of the discussion is worth doodly-squat.

Old trend. Old trend. That being said, Christie is really not all that Conservative; he's a moderate Republican. And he's not being beat up on by "liberals", he's being beat up on by Democrats generally, including the moderate wing, - not because of ideology (ideologically most Democrats can live with Christie), but simply because they don't want him as the quarterback of the opposing team: on balance, they'd rather have any Democrat in the White House appointing the next SCOTUS justices than any viable Republican.

OK, in fairness, let's call it "the red Counties on the map", since that's what the map denotes. So yes, they need to smarten up and eat better - and devote more resources into education and public health, and to debunk the indoctrination that public investment in good public school education and good public health is somehow a Communist boogeyman. And, for fuck's sake, to STOP SMOKING. It's common knowledge that rates of smoking among lesser-educated people in North America are orders of magnitude above rates of smoking among better-educated people. That's no accident. And if it so happens that "health-map red counties" have the highest concentration in "political Red States", well, that correlation is not an ideological argument, it's a hard data point. Sorry, but sometimes the dots really do connect. We ignore or trivialize it at our own peril.

Which makes me recall... We who were adolescent boys in '69 got a lot of mileage outta that.

No. Here, YOU are making it one. That Article cites several possible causes. Obesity is never named in the article. Lots of thin, poorly educated, high sodium/highly processed/low nutritive value food eating Women also die young. Has domestic violence been considered? That would certainly fit the presumptive pattern, along with shitty diets and, importantly, smoking.

Pffft! Since when is throwing people under the bus "being a man"? Those of us who lived through Watergate remember Nixon doing much the same thing (firing top aides) and saying much the same shit ("I accept the responsibility, not the blame.").

Half of Congress Members Are Millionaires, Report Says
Andy9o8 replied to mpohl's topic in Speakers Corner
The problem my pedantic brain has always had with our cultural fealty to the term "millionaire" is that the $1 million mark is a fixed verbal threshold, yet standard inflation continually devalues its true value over time - thus rendering the term effectively arbitrary. For example, $1 million just 30 years ago only has the value of about $420K in 2013 US dollars. But there are no sexy headlines about "400-hundred-thousandaires". -
No worries. It's all Greek to them.

Something about Philippians 4:19. -
This is it. Even if he didn't give the specific order (which I'm not yet willing to grant), this thing lasted for 4 days; Christie wasn't aware of it while it was ongoing? Of course he was. More to the point, he nurtured and nourished a culture in his office of "let's fuck those guys" for retribution, and he's most certainly responsible for that. His throwing aides, etc. under the bus, while professing personal purity and virginity, is revolting. Not unlike the scene in Casablanca where the corrupt Vichy police commander professes to be "shocked, shocked, that gambling is going on" in Rick's nightclub, and then accepts his own gambling winnings. Not quite yet. Let's baste him some more.

Are you still fast, Ron? -
Interesting, but not surprising. One thing I think would make it more accurate would be to allow a greater choice range in an answer, rather than just restricting it to Yes or No. There were several questions to which, given a chance, I would have answered "sometimes" or "it depends...", so a simple Yes or No answer was misleadingly arbitrary.

OK, In fairness, the computers I was referencing were each several years old.

Once I learn to kill people with my mind, I'm moving to Canada!

Nope. It's referring to stuff like telepathy, mind-melding, or that thing than Obi-wan did when he waved his hand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsvbYKr19ng -
(Note - I'm not remotely an IT guy, just an ordinary consumer.) One free anti-virus I'll steer you away from is AVG. (It's popular; if you Google-search for "free anti-virus, it will be at or near the top of the result list.) On more than one computer, I've seen it hog so much resources - slow the computer down so badly - that it made the computer practically un-useable. Each time, it had to be un-installed to get the computer running normally again. ETA - no offense to Normiss's post; he posted it while I was still typing this. But I stand by what I posted, based solely on a couple of anecdotal experiences.

- There are neglected homeless people in every Western industrialized country, not just the US. - This thread has absolutely nothing to do with pit bull dogs, except in the "six degrees of separation" you play in your head. - You'd be more productive if you'd focus, instead of just opportunistically America-bashing, as your posting history suggests you're inclined to do.

Is that hair? It looks like one of those plastic Elvis-hair pieces, but shorter. Sigh. Do you people even try to get it right? It's a Romulan battle helmet. -

I Have to Ask What you think of MSNBC regarding this
Andy9o8 replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
So every adopted black kid has "possibly thug parents"? You mean like every white baby adopted in, say.... oh, ... the Houston area should be presumed to have a (hypothetical) redneck motherfucker as a grandfather? The racism flies off your typing fingers so habitually, you're not even always aware you're doing it, are you? Sad, really. Hmm... -
Increasingly, in recent years, hospice care is moved to home when possible. Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 people I knew over the past few years who died in at-home hospice care. 20 or 30 years ago they would have almost certainly died in a hospital.
