Interesting Washington Post article explaining, in some detail, the US govt's side of the story. It gives some initial pause in accepting India's perspective and version of facts at face value. The complete story is clearly not out yet, but in fairness, this side should be read in its entirety: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/us-attorney-vows-to-pursue-case-against-indian-diplomat-at-center-of-us-india-row/2013/12/19/81764c1c-68c5-11e3-8b5b-a77187b716a3_story.html?hpid=z4

Seriously. Redneck motherfucker behaving like a redneck motherfucker. What a shocker. 8.9 million viewers will miss the "redneck motherfucker". That's why I keep coming back here, Rick: I miss you guys.

I agree w/you generally, w/one possible qualification: the LEOs knew - presumably prior to her arrest - that she was part of a diplomatic mission. And as you pointed out, this was in NYC, where's there's some sophistication about that, as well as the potential political sensitivity. So I wonder whether they did the diligence to check into her diplomatic status before they arrested her. Etc., etc....

No shit. Bet I could find a JAG guy who'd say you're still in and have been UA for the past 40 years. Off to Canada, boy. -

Amazing how many skydivers are also lumberjacks.

As YouTube will attest, that only happens in freefall.

That's it right there. If the conversation doesn't happen in the first place, you won't have to explain yourself to people who almost always won't understand anyway. As often as not, you're in control of that. -
until today, I didn't realize this was a frequent criticism of her. There's a hell of a lot of real ammo to use. Agreed. It was used as but one of many pieces of evidence which, viewed in their totality, underpin a view that she's an intellectual lightweight and/or a flake. If one example is diminished on closer examination, the others still remain.

If you mean in the European-looking sense, that's doubtful. Most likely he more or less resembled what most modern-day Palestinian Arabs look like.

The author, Camille Paglia, is a very interesting person, to say the least. A lesbian (FWIW) who despises "mainstream" feminism; feuded famously with Susan Sontag; liberal in part; anti-liberal libertarian in part. (Although that's not nearly a complete synopsis of the sum total of what she is.) Here's Wikipedia's bio of her. Interesting read, in its entirety: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camille_Paglia

That's because it'll never fly. The pilot program will crash and burn. Ping me if you get further info. -
Freedom of religion, as listed about in the Constitution, protects the people from the government. No, it protects the Flying Spaghetti Monster from the government.

Your first paragraph - assuming for discussion that that's what happened - is inducing someone to do something unlawful by actively overcoming their natural disinclination to do it. That's what entrapment is. Your second example is simply giving a person an opportunity to do something unlawful, whereupon they choose to do it, instead of saying "No thanks". That's generally not considered entrapment. Cops posing as hookers or johns are the classic examples of this. It's not uncommon for people pinched for this (especially johns) to attempt an entrapment defense, but if the defendant/john is an ordinary, un-wealthy, un-connected schmoe, it will likely fail. LEO "stings" often skirt they grey area between entrapment and not. Should be interesting to see how this plays out once the guy lawyers-up.

If only I knew then what I know now. You'd have stayed celibate?

Anyone who cheats w/o planning for venue is not just a scoundrel, he's an idiot. As a lawyer...do you charge extra for that? I'll just say that many people tend to seek me out either because they're very smart or very foolish.

Weaksauce. Sigh, what can I say? The (then-) toddler liked to crawl into bed w/us and fall asleep. So often-times if Wife & I wanted to get any action, we'd have to move over into the kid's room to do it. If you like, I can make something up.
