DZ is shut, or I would have the thermals on and be there. I think most of the locals have buggered off to spain, and my friend is swanning off to zhills for the new year Guess I will have to visit a tunnel -

Relative wind when exiting most planes is slower than terminal, so its easier on the arms than the actual free fall. That said I am not a doctor or an instructor, so best to talk to both of them. __________________ BOOM Headshot

When they first started building Airkix in the UK there was an investment section on their website with a cost to build and how long they expected to be running for before they recouped that cost etc etc. I believe it was in the region of 3 mil. Also I know that bedford said to build their tunnel from scratch would have cost 9 mil because of the size, as it was already built (ex military testing), it only cost them 3mil in total. But post in the tunnel forum, you will probably get a better answer from someone way more knowledgable than me. __________________ BOOM Headshot

There is an indoor real snow slope in the same complex as airkix (12ft wind tunnel). www.xscape.co.uk (site is down as I type this) __________________ BOOM Headshot

Ahh I see, so you wouldn't have any flare but if you are under a 350 and weigh 100lbs then a no flare landing isn't going to kill you. __________________ BOOM Headshot

For quite some time, a man has lived next door to a beautiful young girl. He curses his lack of confidence, as he’s never said more than hello to the fantastic creature on his doorstep. Then one day, as he returns from work, the girl appears at her front door wearing a flimsy negligée and beckons him over. As she slides her arms around his neck, it’s obvious she’s coming on to him, and the man gets increasingly hot under the collar. All of a sudden she looks up. ‘Inside, quickly,’ she whispers urgently, ‘I can hear someone coming.’ Blind with lust, he follows her indoors where she strips off and stands in front of him, stark naked. ‘So, honey,’ she coos, ‘what do you think my best attribute is?’ ‘Well,’ the man stammers, ‘It’s … er … got to be your ears.’ The woman frowns at him incredulously. ‘My ears?’ she gasps. ‘But why? Have you ever seen such flawless skin? Such pert breasts? Have you ever set eyes upon such a firm backside?’ ‘No – I agree,’ says the man. The woman shakes her head ‘And yet you say my ears …’ ‘Well it’s like this,’ he explains, ‘When we were outside, you said you could hear someone coming.’ ‘So?’ she demands. The man gulps. ‘Well, that was me.’ __________________ BOOM Headshot

You haven't seen me roll But seriously, marajuana is much less harmful than alcohol or nicotine (nicotine which if you remember is a physically addictive drug). Gateway drug, yeah I love how they use that term, of course it's a gateway drug you fuckers are labeling it an illegal substance, kids take one illegal, its not a huge step to take another, we don't call nicotine a gateway drug or alcohol a gateway drug. __________________ BOOM Headshot

Ok my 2cents, anyone that reads the Wind Tunnel section will probably already know the story. In January I did AFF level 1, mainly for charity and it sounded fun. I pretty much sucked (I have the vid if you really want to see how bad), I was incredibly tense, I was arched and belly to earth but no control at all. I did just under 20 minutes at bodyflight, by the end of that I was stable and could turn, control fall rate to a degree etc. Did AFF in Z-Hills and it was a breeze, all instructors I had commented how the tunnel time had helped. AFF was completed in 3 days (would have been 2 but it was windy second day). Didn't fail a level. Which was exactly the same for a friend that did AFF at same time. Without a doubt the tunnel was incredibly helpful, why would something this useful be a fad? __________________ BOOM Headshot

I am pretty new so can you explain how to flare with one toggle? __________________ BOOM Headshot

I was fortunate enough to do some tunnel time before AFF, so hopefully I should be stationary in all 3 dimensions anyway (plus bedford is nice and big

Not fortunate enough to be buying new, looking to buy a used suit (have two in mind). One with all of the above. And one without, unfortunately the one without is looking like the most financially viable (surprise surprise). I need a suit anyway and if I do get a second custom made suit then this one is hopefully gonna be cheap enough to keep as a spare. __________________ BOOM Headshot

If I was to have a shiny new suit for when I next go to the tunnel, and if said suit was to have booties, would it be a good idea to try and get used to them in the tunnel? Or would the increased turning speed and forward motion make it easier to learn with them in the air? __________________ BOOM Headshot

I would have chopped it, if it needs full toggle input just to fly straight what happens if it corrects itself at 100 feet? Yep that would hurt __________________ BOOM Headshot

Instructors dating students???????
daniel_owen_uk replied to MrJones's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am not convinced that work should interfere with person life, if someone tells me that I can't date someone from work, I will tell them its non of their business. That said if an instructor is going to date a student then they should still maintain all the safety and good advice which go along with this. The whole Shana media circus probably wouldn't have happened if the instructor in question gave proper advice and put her out on the correct sized canopy (that's the impression I get from what I have read, its my personal opinion and is not gospel). __________________ BOOM Headshot -
Might want to search through www.skydivingmovies.com In the student section there are many vids of AFF jumps. (damn thats second time in a week I have pimped that site, they aren't paying me.... honest) __________________ BOOM Headshot

Yeah like others have said the reason you "couldn't" breathe was psychological not physical, when you jump a little more and calm down a little more it will go away and you will just breathe normally. __________________ BOOM Headshot

Indeed, I will be jumping at Hib (soon as my BPA membership comes through, and they reopen in Jan). Did AFF1 there in January this year and was up there the other week, nothing but good vibes from the place. That said I think Hinton would be closer to you or maybe Langar. __________________ BOOM Headshot
