  1. I'm beginning to think I lead a sheltered life. I hadn't heard of anyone calling any of them "sell outs". The only criticism I've heard was about Thomas being against affirmative action after he was the recipient of it.
  2. It's amazing in this country that reverse discrimination is powerful enough to elect a black president. I'm sure that race is an issue for some people but I thought he won it because he was the stronger, more consistent candidate. I don't know anyone personally who is voting for him, or against him for that matter, because of his skin color. This Honky's voting for him and I don't feel the least bit guilty
  3. She sounds like an ideal VP candidate for McCain. They're perfect for each other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLfsG8XKWfw
  4. I'm actually not certain that it wasn't the other way around. I think Bush thinks it was his idea but the policies that the administration championed were all PNAC driven. Just my opinion.
  5. Personally I'd rather see Edwards in the VeeP spot. The idea of a Obama/Clinton ticket for the sake of unity makes sense but, given that the VP spot is now more powerful than ever in history, if I were Obama I'd be concerned with her overstepping her bounds and creating problems for him.
  6. I don't know. There may be quite a few reasons. She may be trying to figure out a way to continue the fight but then again she may simply be starting the withdrawal process. If she were to simply state "I quit" the resulting crash, shock, furor, and uprising could be quite substantial and detrimental to the party as a whole. She has some rabid supporters that need to be let down slowly if they want to continue to benefit the party. If the end result that she wants is to see McCain defeated then she needs to handle her exit with tremendous alacrity and grace. Also, if she's entertaining the idea of applying for the VP slot then she needs to watch her step. (Personally I don't think Obama's interested, although it might be the wisest choice for the party. That's a tough one.) There's a lot of emotion that needs to be contained and channeled into something productive.
  7. This is interesting. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080603/ap_on_el_pr/clinton_27 edited to add: Ok. This is interesting too I guess. This is like watching a cat walk through a doorway. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080603/pl_nm/usa_politics_dc;_ylt=Amo4mwAOP8.UrrBRzwjz4Y9h24cA
  8. This was a pretty good interview that touched heavily on that point. It's worth the listen if you get the chance and are interested. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91061991
  9. Look at the government that you get when people are free to bribe public officials. But I do find it interesting that you would have no problem with Ahmadinejad paying teachers directly for teaching history to his satisfaction.
  10. It's an unintended consequence of our business and trade practices. So too is the reality that the world's largest creditor has been reduced to the world's largest debtor over the course of one generation. Sorry to leave that hanging but I have to go for the weekend. Got some jumpin' to do!
  11. You're serious? Founded by, and this is from the site you posted, "L. Brent Bozell III, 51, is one of the most outspoken and effective national leaders in the conservative movement today." Check out www.fair.org in your spare time. They're left but at least they're honest. The corporate media is inept at good, solid reporting. But they are really good at making money for themselves, which is incidentally, their main objective.
  12. I did, but I didn't know that all streaming media was off the menu. Bummer. That explains a lot though, I'll cut you some slack
  13. I wouldn't. FOX plays to right wing politics and sex, not the sitting President. It's quite lucrative apparently. And all the rest play to left wing politics and sex...what's your point? Sadly, the rest echo FOX's lead these days. It sells. I wish I could remember where that youtube video was that illustrated it so well. Then again, you couldn't watch it if I could
  14. Good point. If I'm filthy stinking rich, and I pick up the paper and see that a school has raised their graduates SAT scores by 15%, and decide to send a $10K check to each teacher at that school; on what legal grounds can I be stopped? What if, instead of SAT scores, the driving force behind your neighbor's much higher degree of philanthropy was a thorough knowledge of Islamic extremism, the history of pornography or communist philosophy? Do you want him padding your teacher's retirement accounts?
  15. No, I don't. I don't want Pat Robertson, Hagee, Parsley, or Osama bin Laden giving money to my kid's teachers. Its bad enough that we let our politicians collect that sort of tribute.
  16. I'm not surprised. He's bashing someone personally and completely ignores the veracity of the actual content of McClellan's analysis. Thanks for the heads up. I thought that possibly as he got older that Bob would put more emphasis on honesty and less on party loyalty. I guess I was wrong. I do have one comment though. I don't know that I would call being the Bush White House spokesman a "cushy" job.
  17. I wouldn't. FOX plays to right wing politics and sex, not the sitting President. It's quite lucrative apparently.
  18. I think you should vote. I think everybody should vote, and I hope that they do.
  19. Actually the story that McClellen is telling is nothing new. For years former administration officials, government employees, even leaders of other countries have all said the same thing. The war with Iraq was planned and that the intelligence that was disseminated was fixed to that policy. The only difference this time is that it's a much closer insider who is verifying those claims. I think that's what's gotten most of the right wing ignorance peddlers' panties in a wad, the fact that it was a loyalist who is spilling the beans.
  20. Yup. Armitage, Libby AND Rove. Don't want to forget that part either Plus you got the added bonus of Cheney saying that he was allowed do it if he wanted to. Of course he lost me with the "executive who isn't part of the executive branch" bit. He's got super-villain powers I guess.
  21. Video sites are blocked over here. Bummer. But if you can get audio and have more time to devote to it, here's a similar link. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1587250
  22. It is. And the WEA's rep says that foundations, organizations, people, aren't allowed to pay teachers directly. I think they should be able to figure out a way to achieve the intended goals but I think that the WEA dude has a valid point. I personally don't want to set a precedent and see Focus on the Family doling out cash to my kid's teachers. That aside, I really don't know what the actual hang up is for the Washington deal. I haven't found anyone giving too many specifics.
  23. Give this guy a listen (watch the video interview) and you'll get back to what we were talking about the other day before I was distracted with a boogie. http://www.pbs.org/now/politics/dcjohnston.html#
