  1. The comment had nothing to do with me. And I know for a fact that they're not listening to anything I say. I've contacted them numerous times to politely tell them that they suck at their job. It was geared more towards the media's desire to run with nonsensical assertions.
  2. I'm all for new technology and I think that there's a good argument for rethinking power generation and storage. But I probably wouldn't want a basement full of those batteries if I lived in a flood plain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD85OUkEKKw Which of course, brings up one of my favorite Youtube videos
  3. So you'd rather it be run by an industry who's primary concern is which voting block should have the highest survival rate? Hadn't heard that one yet. First it's "kill the babies" then it's "kill the old folks", now it's "kill the voters". I think the best response should be a non-response. It's less likely to get picked up by the media that way.
  4. In contrast to Obama's claims Palin's message has no truth to it and is flat out fear mongering. She'd have a better argument if she were to state that the insurers essentially use "death panels" as the cull the unprofitable policies. That's what happens when your industry's primary concern is the next quarterly stock report. As for the notion of Palin "winning" the debate, I think that speaks more to the ineptitude of most of the media (and the embrace of anti-intellectualism as a political tool). They are an opinion echo box, not a source objective information, or any reliable information for that matter. But that's what happens when your industry's primary concern is the next quarterly stock report.
  5. It looks interesting but I'm guessing that there will be a little bit of slop in the fit as it looks similar the goldmember. What I'd love to see is something similar to your design with respect to the ability to travel left or right just a bit, have a clamp instead of a pin, and an "L" bracket so you can mount your still in either landscape or portrait. And last but not least, it needs to cost less than either the RRS mount or a CX100. I know, I don't want much. Just inexpensive, reliable gear, four day weekends and Hooter's girls packing for the DZ.
  6. Because melting glaciers will. Also, warmer water occupies a greater volume than colder water.
  7. It's an action verb that is often used in a figurative sense. It's often followed by a concluding statement or reply such as "fuggittaboudit".
  8. It wasn't me but thanks for the link. I'm reading it now and some of it reminded me of an interview I heard, (yesterday?) on NPR. The doctor in the interview was mentioning that Dr's are being paid better to "do" than to "think". Essentially that the procedures that she performs are more lucrative than diagnosis. As an example she mentioned (seriously paraphrasing here) that she would see maybe nine patients a day for various pains and conditions and she'd prescribe various remedies. But then the 10th patient shows up with an ingrown toenail, and even though he only received the same allotted 20 minute session that all the others did, his procedure would bring in more money to her practice than the preceding nine patients combined.
  9. Cool! At least we're now in agreement about what we were talking about. Actually, what were we talking about? Palin drones or have we drifted too far?
  10. Ouch! Another two sentence volley! "UNCLE"! You win! I give up. You win the argument that you never made. Congratulations on a non fight poorly fought. I bow to your superior fallaciousness brave sir knight of the round and round and round table.
  11. Ok, time for a humorous slant from, once again, one of the best "news" organizations on the planet. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-august-13-2009/glenn-beck-s-operation
  12. I have no idea what you think I'm characterizing Mike. You haven't presented anything yet Help me out here. At the very LEAST you can try writing nothing in three sentences instead of the usual two. Tell you what Mike, the next time I don't present an argument I would appreciate it if you would give me a full rebuttal I know I said I was going to try not to respond to this stuff but now it's getting kinda funny (in a rather sad sort of way).
  13. What it should indicate is that I'm interested in you making your own argument. Let's see: Lob out an unreferenced accusation. Dare people to dispute it. Assume some sort of vindication when people ignore it. But this is a typical right wing fallacious argument so I appreciate the example, as well as thread continuity. Now I wouldn't be a good "lib" if I didn't point out my own mishandling of the discussion. I allowed myself to get pulled away from any reasonable exchange and instead, spent way too much time dealing with a deliberate diversion. I apologize and will try to make sure it doesn't happen again as it is a benefit to no one.
  14. Uh, no - if you're as concerned over the fact that it happens at all as you SAY you are, you'll be motivated to research it yourself. Judging from the 'you do it and I'll read it' response, I'm not so convinced. I get it, you call "fresh herring" and I'm supposed to go to the store, buy the tackle, the fishing permit, rent the boat and go fish. Sorry buddy. Mike, sitting back sniping one and two line jabs may feed your partisan fetish but it's a lousy way to present an argument.
  15. Sure, I'll check it out. You research it and post the context along with your reaction and we'll go from there.
  16. And I don't care who does it, when you threaten person and property then you should be thrown in jail. That goes for media personalities as well. The problem though is if you actually tried to do it with the latter. Can you imagine the backlash if Glenn Beck got arrested for inciting a riot? It would be the right thing to do but then he'd become the poster child for the revolution of the woefully misinformed.
  17. She asked how we are supposed to discern the good info from the bad and why we do we need to change the system in the first place? Her question had a lot more to do with the bill than either asking about euthanasia panels or just shouting and asking no question at all.
  18. No. It's annoying when the mob is ignorant and is bent on perpetuating ignorance. Where I mainly have a problem is when the mob starts threatening people and property. And I really have a problem when the media becomes part of the mob. At that point it becomes both annoying and dangerous.
  19. No way man, I'm not dealing with Kenya. Too much shady stuff going on to trust them. But I've got to go. I have Nigerian guy on the line who is promising me 40% of a multi-million dollar pseudo-money laundering scheme. This guy really seems to be on the level. One more bank account number and it's all mine!
  20. No. But does it matter? If I don't support it then I don't support it. At least I'm consistent. Don't know, but google indicates that it might have been Obama addressing Bank execs or the like. Didn't click on the link though, I'm not hungry for red herring today.
  21. Using little girls, dishonesty runs deep in Obama's crowd. The horror! I mean, letting a little girl ask a question, what a perv. You know, I'll bet she didn't even sign a loyalty oath. And what kind of BS question is that! "How do we know what is true?"! She's obviously an industry supported plant. Let's see, she's what, eleven years old? So they must have been planning this back just after Clinton was elected for his first term, you know, to get the newspapers on board when they reported her birth. I'm still not buying it. I need to hold her birth certificate in my hand before I believe that she's an actual citizen who REALLY wants to know why people think we need a new system. Man, Obama's good. He almost got me on that one. Good for you for catching this obvious subversion.
  22. No. Dissent is fine. But when it gets to the point that it becomes a (literally) threatening mob, as being orchestrated by major media propagandists who joke about poisoning legislators, then yea, it's a problem. I dont' have a double standard. I don't think that the protesters should be roped into "free speech zones" a few blocks away from our elected leaders. Do you? Did you?
  23. A handful of people? You mean the de facto leader of the Republican party and his minister of propaganda, Beck? You think they have less influence? The rest of you post makes my point. I don't know if I should address it or ignore it. To address it would give credence.
  24. See attachments. But I'm SURE that Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity etc. had NOTHING to do with this. It's simply freedom loving patriots asking simple insightful (inciteful) questions of their representatives.
