  1. Hi everyone, I am british and moving to New Zealand for a few years on a visa and wondered if anyone had experience of insurance policies for jumping when living in a different country (I am only familiar with holiday insurance) As I understand things I'm covered under their national healthcare but I'm trying to cover myself against the worst (death due to skydiving and having to be repatriated back to the UK). Not the happiest topic but I have heard these costs can be enormous so it seems wise to get cover. Any tips and other info on what an active skydiver should get before moving to another country would be appreciated. Struggling to find any useful information. Cheers, caspar
  2. I'd agree with the taxi option. It's going to cost you, but your timings sound a bit too tight for anything else. Wouldn't your bags get sent to gatwick for you to join your connecting flight? Maybe worth checking... Don't want to be a downer but...Considering the high possibilities of delays, hold ups and congestion over here, the best advice would be to see if you could change your gatwick flight to an hour or so later. I've been on a few flights booked over the web that just gave unreallistic transfer times and consequently missed them. "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  3. My boss (1st mate) spends 1,000 euro's easy on a night out every single time. So hard to believe but it's true. He orders whole bottles of jack daniels and champagne etc while in a club...in a monaco. Sailors life for you, but still... "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  4. ...with the ex~gf... argh! waking up in your Wife's Ex-girlfriends bed. just making sure here... (i.e. your wife batted for the other team for a while?). if i understood correctly, wow. "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  5. do tell anyway. that should make it all the more entertaining as you can't use booze as an excuse. "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
  6. So, after a very heavy night of drinking where is the strangest/funniest place you have woken up? bonus points if you had no idea how you got there. i haven't really got many as im pretty good at making it back to my place or a friends but to kick start the thread i guess mine would have to be the Skydive AGM a year or so ago when i woke up in the bath of a hotel (it was full of bottels and cans so my back payed the price later). what made it quite funny was someone decided to sit on the toilet and take a whopping shit while giggling that i was passed out in the bath. i have distinct memories, sprawled in the bath, absolutely wasted, in pain, thinking something horribly wrong was happening. 7. if you were to divorce couldn't you just apply to be a citizen again? i mean, of all the people they give citizenship to, someone who was one for 30 years (and was born there) has got to be top of the list. if you can just re-apply then it wouldn't be major problem would it? 8. in terms of physical processes, i read that because of advancing medicine and technology the definition of death has to be constantly updated. to answer your question of the process my first thought is to first define what death is and then look at the processes involved. as far as i know the current definition is: "the cessation of electrical activity in the brain" i hope that helps with the answer you are looking for. 9. being aware and conscious so you are able to perceive it and therefore act, appreciate etc other than that, isnt the one thing everyone treasures most in their life their mind as it is essentially what you are, what defines you and what lets you love everything in life there is to love? hmm maybe that sounds narcisscistic but im sticking with it. 10. isn't worked out as a multiplier rather than percentage. for example, in the UK it is about 3.3. so at $40,000 p/a you could borrow $132,000. havent bought a home but started looking into it all recently. might be completely wrong... 11. hey guys and gals, i have been doing a fair bit of research and am about to invest into an indian unit fund http://www.jupiteronline.co.uk/PI/Our_Products/Unit_Trusts/International_Funds/R2.htm just wondered if anyone has any experience or knowledge of these things (my 1st forray into the world of stocks and shares etc) and thinks its not a smart move? obviously the UK,US,EU economic forecasts arent great,to say the least, but indian forecasts look awesome (plus current exchange rate movements make it that much sweeter). 12. Have you read about the latest fears relating to routers? each router is a mini PC. scientists believe that eventually someone will make a virus that utilises wireless routers. by utilising them as a connected network they have the same processing power as one/ many (dont remember exact amount here) PC's, be able to infect countless PC's connected to this. most people, myslef included either never bother or dont know hoe to encryp their routers. slight sidetrack but interesting none the less. 13. yep its true, i read it in new scientist. i dont have the article to hand but it was pretty specific. weed is way worse for SOME carcinogens than ciggarettes and not so for others but overall is worse than cigarettes. edit: im a die hard new scientist fan, so if they print it...i'll probably believe it. 14. what sort of lifespan do risers have? i cant say ive ever thought about ever replacing mine, or thinking you would need to. where are the important places to look for wear, or more importantly, what are the main tell tale signs they need replacing? maybe im being a bit dumb, but i thought my slinks were the only thing on my risers that would need changing. thanks in advance for any info. 19. taken from the story on the front page. does anyone agree with this? i find it hard to fathom that they can simply say that most of us do this because of a genetic trait. i understand the power genes can have over us...but still, such a blanket statement based on one gene seems a bit far-fetched. we all skydive for various reasons whether it is the rush or something else. does anyone else agree? also, skydivers have less death anxiety than other people? personally im shit scared of dying and well, i cant think of any other group of people that worries about it more, feels it affects and on the whole does anything they can do to avoid this. it was an interesting article but does anyone else think its generalisations on skydivers...is a bit far fetched? or am i just spouting nonsense?
