What can we do about Skyride?
fmmobley replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I wonder if Dropzone.com has considered not displaying Skyride related dropzones on their dropzone page; or at least posting a consumer alert or warning of some kind. ... Marion -

Recommended San Diego area Drop Zones?
fmmobley replied to fmmobley's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Thanks to everyone for their recommendations... I ended up going to Elsinore and had a fantastic time. Next time I will try the others. ... Marion -
I live in Georgia and visited Skydive Elsinore recently. I am a newbie with a Class "A" license and it was the first time to a different drop zone. The folks at Elsinore were EXTREMELY friendly. Once they determined that I knew what I was doing, they let me jump. I can't say enough about the helpful attitude of everyone I spoke with. I had a blast jumping from their Twin Otters. The landing area was HUGE. I highly recommend visiting the dz.

First Jumpsuit... should it feel so tight?
fmmobley replied to fmmobley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

I just purchased my first jumpsuit. I got an "off the rack" jumpsuit. It is supposed to fit someone 5'7" to 5'9". I am 5'8". It is comfortable and fits snug all over, which is good because I fall slow. The only problem is when I arch it feels tight as if there isn't enough material between the crotch and my neck. I am thinking that if it gets in the way of a good arch that is a bad thing. I am not sure if I should return it. Do they usually stretch a bit after you have them? Am I worried for nothing? ... Recommended San Diego area Drop Zones?
fmmobley replied to fmmobley's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I just got my "A" license. I am visting my son in San Diego in two weeks, and have one day to jump at a drop zone out there. Perris and Elsinore (1 hour away) seem to be more well known but are farther away than Skydive San Diego (1/2 hr). Any recommendations? ... Marion -
I am new to the sport and just got my A license. While visiting San Diego in 2 weeks, I am considering making my first visit to a different DZ at Perris. That would be too cool if I could jump out of a DC-9. ... Marion

Popsjumper... Yea I know who you are! I hope you guys had fun this weekend, I was in North Georgia with in-laws. Thanks for the feedback on logging ! I look forward to jumping with you next weekend (if the weather doesn't suck). (7 weeks till my new rig arrives !) ... Marion -
Newbie wants to know what to log?
fmmobley replied to fmmobley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
New to the sport, I am not sure what to keep track of in my log book. I want to keep track of the things needed to meet requirements for future licenses and ratings I may want to get. What do you guys (and gals) write in your log book? -
How about skydiving near Florence? Any dropzones there?

You are exactly right about the people at Monroe being willing to jump with newbies like myself, and I am learning from everyone I jump with. Skydive Monroe is the greatest! ... Marion

Wearing gloves and finding the pud
fmmobley replied to fmmobley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
----- "Why would wearing gloves protect your hands on a bad landing? Wouldn't a proper PLF with your hands and arms tucked in close to your body be a better choice for hand protection?" ------------ You are exactly right.... a properly done PLF would protect the hands. I am assuming that someday I may be dragged or not do a good PLF and need the protection. ... Marion -
Wearing gloves and finding the pud
fmmobley replied to fmmobley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am fairly new. I want to start wearing gloves to protect my hands when/if I ever land badly. However, I am concerned that wearing gloves will affect my ability to feel the throw out handle. Any thoughts on this? ... Marion -
Question from a newcomer to the sport... I always thought you weren't to jump from above 15,000 msl without oxygen. Am I incorrect or did you bend the rules a little. ... Marion

I am new to the sport and am in the market for new gear. I want to have an AAD on my rig and I see that there is a competitor to Cypres out there. Does anyone have any opinion of which is better, more reliable, etc. ... Marion

I am in the market for a new rig. Looks like I can buy some things directly from the manufacturer, or through a retailer. What do you all do, and who do you like to buy from?
