The sound you heard wasn't thunder, it was me asshole slamming shut as we left the plane.

"Large Stadium Events" is defined as 30,000 people present at a national event.... I'm not shouting, this is a copy/paste from .gov We've had no problems from ATC in getting our demos approved. PARACHUTE OPERATIONS ARE PROHIBITED AT AND BELOW 3,000 FEET AGL WITHIN A THREE NAUTICAL MILE RADIUS OF ANY STADIUM HAVING A SEATING CAPACITY OF 30,000 OR MORE PEOPLE IN WHICH A MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL, NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, NCAA DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL, OR MAJOR MOTOR SPEEDWAY EVENT IS OCCURING. ALL PREVIOUSLY ISSUED WAIVERS TO FDC NOTAM 2/0199 ARE RESCINDED. THOSE WHO MEET ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA MAY REAPPLY FOR A WAIVER TO THESE RESTRICTIONS: (A) FOR OPERATIONAL PURPOSES OF AN EVENT, STADIUM, OR OTHER VENUE, INCLUDING (IN THE CASE OF A SPORTING EVENT) THE TRANSPORT OF EQUIPMENT OR PARTS, TEAM MEMBERS, OFFICIALS OF THE GOVERNING BODY, THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS AND GUESTS OF SUCH TEAMS, AND OFFICIALS TO AND FROM THE EVENT, STADIUM, OR OTHER VENUE, (B) FOR BROADCAST COVERAGE FOR ANY BROADCAST RIGHTS HOLDER, (C) FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY PURPOSES OF THE EVENT, STADIUM, OR OTHER VENUE. THIS RESTRICTION DOES NOT APPLY TO; (A) THOSE AIRCRAFT AUTHORIZED BY ATC FOR OPERATIONAL OR SAFETY PURPOSES INCLUDING AIRCRAFT ARRIVING OR DEPARTING FROM AN AIRPORT USING STANDARD AIR TRAFFIC PROCEDURES;

Yeah, but then I'd look like a video guy....

Those are exactly what I use. There is a "Safety Pin" on those which I take off and replace with three of the internal strands of 550 cord. That area then fits perfectly over any type 7 or 8 webbing. Tie it off and you're done (word of caution... do not tie off to your main lift web. It could slide around in night freeefall and get in the way of your handles if you should need them). I tie it off thru the leg strap episiotomy strap and around the leg strap. When I get in the saddle, its down and below so it doesn't blind me. I can also raise my leg to turn it on and its out of the way on the ride to altitude. It also works well on the lateral back strap (left side is better... away from hackey).

I have over 1,200 jumps and no reserve rides. There are only two minor things on a pack job I'm anal about; 1) Line order, and 2) Line tension from the beginning of the pack job until the end.

So let me see if I understand this... You work in manifest AND are AD's roomate who is a TI and you have to scrape up funds for this? No perks at either place? I'm thinking you need a new DZ and a new roommate Any takers?

I said, "Put the bunny back in the box."

Congratulations, David. It takes a lot of introspect in these times of "downsizing" to upsize. Wish more folks had that.

I currently jump Wings with a Precision 249 Dash M and Icarus 169. And, its been my experience that most manufacturers will customize your container (within reason) to accomodate larger reserves with smaller mains. See... We continue to sacrifice safety and reason for aesthetics and kewl. The only thing that's ugly is the end result of a reserve that's too small.

Blue Skies, Black Death (Roger Nelson)
nightjumps replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
June 7th seems to be an increasingly significant day in history for those who jump out of planes. Roger was an inspiration to the skydiving community in all he did. While I never met him, his advances in training pressed me to learn more about becoming a better instructor. His mentorism carried beyond those who knew him personally. Our condolences to Rook and Missy. -
Until you get your "A" License, its usually an introduction to the protocol. Every time you say or do a "first," folks will give you a hard time about the beer, but you're usually excused from actually bringing it till the "A." (We'd rather you spent your money getting your "A" license and hooked on skydiving so we can have more beer in the long run, than have you buy beer and run out of money in the first 20 jumps)

Chris, Contact Simon at Icarus to explain the situation. Icarus has a 30 day money back guarantee. I had a Safire1 189 and ordered a Safire 169. The 169 actually flies better than the Safire1 189 so you may be able to downsize to the 169 and not notice any difference. By no means extend your closing loop to an extent that the grommets don't line up.

If you have ever rode the plane down...
nightjumps replied to gatorbait's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Many times. Winds came up, riding down with student jump refusals, etc. Food for thought... Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground. -
Only as perceived by "small" minds.

I think one would have to prove, "Gross Negligence" - Failure to use even the slightest amount of care in a way that shows Recklessness or willful disregard for the safety of others.

Two years, 17 jumps and ten second delays. Consider AFF. IF you do well and you should, you'll pass every level fine. If you do really well, you could graduate at Level 6. WE've graduated a couple that were in your shoes in 6 AFF dives. Best advice you've been given is to sit down with the Instructors and talk with them about it. With the new Integrated Student Program (ISP), you can commingle the S/L, Tandem and AFF. And your situation is one of those the new ISP helps with.

I agree with riggerrob and skymonkeyone and have been doing S/L for about as long as them. I got my IAD/I rating last year. After doing a few of them, I do like the IAD method as well as S/L. Both require the Instructor to get way out on the step with the student. Both require their own form of protecting the student's pin while hanging from the strut. All in all I think they're both equal.

Like LouDiamond says, "you were taught to look to get your P/C outta the burble. Over time, you will quit looking. As DJan says, I have the "feeling" as to what's going on (a developed sense), I still have the habit of pitching the P/C and counting. I know how long the canopy takes. If I pass my four thousand count and am not sitting up right, I know something is wrong and its hands on handles time.

It really sepends on the Underwriter. Some do, some don't.

Paul, Thanks for the laugh. Haven't heard that since my Army days.
