why, after all this time, is Windows so fucking lame?
Stumpy replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
True. I have a SQA-5H (squash) Windows Home Server that backs up my data every night, and serves as a good media-streamer as well. Worth the money. I put pretty much everything except music into the cloud. Works for me Never try to eat more than you can lift -

If its any condolence, the beta of 7 i have seems to work better than vista. I have 1 mac, 2 ubuntu machines, 1 vista and 1 xp. All good at different things, but in terms of "just working" apple is the best, vista is the worst, ubuntu is somewhere in the middle. Never try to eat more than you can lift

You have kind of answered your own question. The instructors aren't necessarily all talented prodigies, tunnel time will get you like that. You have spent 120 quid - whats that these days, 4-5 jumps? and found you had some skills needed developing. You could probably have spent the rest of your jumping career never sorting those skills out (most tunnel rats have seen people with thousands of jumps who had some "odd" habits!) Having said that, if you find it boring, then thats a totally valid point and more power to you. I don't tend to stick with things that bore me! (i do miss my tunnel fix though!) Core temperatures first, so a thermal layers and a good shell layer. Extremities - you can get thermal head covers to fit under your helmet, buffs are your friend as well. Shoe covers to keep your toes warm, windstopper gloves. Do not neglect your knees - below 10 degrees C i am wearing tights or knee warmers as well as arm warmers. Below freezing i'm wearing everything! Never try to eat more than you can lift

I agree - Richard Dawkins writes about this very compellingly in (I think) "The Selfish Gene" It is virtually impossible to find examples of true altruism in nature where there is NO benefit for the "giver" I am in two minds about human altrusim - very difficult to prove either way.
