why shouldn't i let it dry out? i use triple antibiotic, but that's more to keep the bandage from sticking. it has stopped oozing blood and has formed sort of a "skin" for lack of a better term. last night i loosly put a bandaid over it so it could get some air. this morning i put a finger bandaid over it and the covered it with a finger condom, but twice i bumped it and the pain brought me to my knees so i've gone back to the big gauze bandages. it was the next morning. i didn't think to take pics until after it was bandaged up and i wasn't going to unwrap it just for that. the pics were taken the next morning when i changed the bandage. i wish i could have gotten a pic right after i did it, it looked worse. it wasn't the blade that cut me. i was cutting a piece of aluminum angle iron. the blade caught and ripped the angle iron from my hand, taking a chunk of flesh with it. i've cut a lot of aluminum that way without incident, and don't really know what happened, but i'll be cutting it by hand from now on. i did clean it our very well, i ran water over it for a long time. i was afraid to stop running water over it because i knew that when i stopped, i would have to do something. it took me about 10 minutes to find the balls to stop flushing it and bandage it. i would love to say that's the case, but the truth is i'm just a huge pussy and the though of them poking and prodding it and cleaning it makes me squirm. since i have leftover narcotics and can get an antibiotic prescription without going to the er, i decided to not let anyone else touch it. besides, i haven't had the best luck with air force er's. my wife got me some antibiotics. i was camping all weekend and hit it with hydrogen peroxide today and it hurt like a mother fucker. i won't be doing that again. it will be an open wound for a while, so infection is a big concern. i can get more antibiotics if necessary. her chain of command already knows about this weekend's happenings. the problem is that they normally do little to nothing to solve actual problems. they don't want to make waves either. that is the way with the military. its the same basic thing that was behind the walter reed thing. making waves can ruin a career. nobody wants to do that. i'm not sure if he was civilian or air force. usually they have civilians guarging the gate, but during the exercise they probably have a bunch of airmen. if that's the case, the likely got a kick out of "pulling rank" on an officer. someone coming in laboring is urgent, but not exactly an emergency. if it had been an emergency, i'm sure she would have pushed the issue further. my wife doen't like to make waves, but this is something that needs to be addressed in one way or another. unfortunately, she's afraid that to avoid this in the future, they won't tell the gate guards to let the docs through, they will just make the docs take call in the hospital.
