i wanted to just make her deal with it, but she broke the crate and got out of it and then damaged my trailer. we have a hybrid trailer with the beds that fold out of the ends like the beds of a pop-up trailer. she had ripped open the canvas that covers the screens and was working on the screens. if i hadn't checked on her, she would had gotten out and we may have never found her. a had to stay in the trailer through the show and it just broke my heart to see my princess so upset. at the time i didn't care about training her, i didn't care about the damage to my trailer, i didn't care about missing the fireworks show, and i didn't care that i have to buy a new crate. all i wanted to do was calm her down. i've never seen an animal act that. it was absolutely heart-wrenching to witness. while you may be right that i did the wrong thing, it was all i could do. these weren't just fire crackers and bottle rockets, this was a professional fireworks show. i will take your advice though and work with her through the next year. we're getting a puppy in october, so i will be able get both of them used to gun fire. this weekend we went camping and as usual, we took our golden retriever, emma. last night there were firework at the campgraound where we were staying. i expected emma to be scared and nervous, but she went absolutely insane. i had to carry her back to the trailer, and she was going absolutely ape shit white i was getting her crate. i put her in her crate inside of the trailer and since there was nothing else i could do, i went back outside to watch the fireworks. after a few minutes, i went to check on her and she had broken out of the crate and was trying to dig out of the trailer. i got on the floor with her and just held her. every muscle was hard as a rock and she was shaking and panting and drooling. it was absolutelty horrible to watch my pet go through what was by far the worst 45 minutes of her life. i will never make one of my dogs have that experience again, but i'm hoping there's another solution besides leaving her at home. we got her to be a part of the family and like to take her any time we can. i would hate to leave her for 3 or 4 days, or in this case, it would have been a week and a half. are there doggie sedatives that i can give her? giardia was the major concern before posting here. now sediment and algea are a concern. i know that there are filters for rv's that can't hurt to use even using potable water. what i have to research is if they can filter out something as small as giardia. i rented a trailer last year without a water system and stayed in it for a week during hunting season. not having a shower sucked. i also want to be able to bring my wife camping someplace besides a full hookup campground. i'll keep the 55 gallon drum idea in mind. it may turn out to be the best option. before doing anything i'll flush and sanitize my system just to see how much of a bitch it is. i've thought of that. i would bring potable water for drinking, cooking, and dish washing. i would then have to sanitize my fresh water system when i got home. this is something that may only happen a couple times a year. my wife prefers to camp in campgrounds with full hookups, so i would need to do this when i convince her to go into to real woods. if its just me, i can jump in a lake or stream and be happy with that as long as its warm outside. i would also need to do this during hunting season when its too cold to bath in a stream. i need a way to fill my fresh water tank in my rv from a stream or river. i'm thinking that a small water pump that does between 1 and 5 gallons per minute and can run off of 12vdc, 110vac, or gas powered. the goal is to be able to take showers while camping. that's twice you've mentioned this. please tell why you think this. i'm no economist, but i don't see this. my 401k has performed well in the last few years. my wife's ira hasn't done stellar, but has still grown. our house has appreciated abour 17% in two years. unemployment is low, and high gas prices haven't kept people out of the malls. the dow is around 13,500. please educate me. as far as immigration, i feel the most important thing is to know who we have coming into this country. that is vital to our security. i'm all for people coming here for work or a better life, but they need to do it legally. we have a responsibility to do 2 things. the first is to enforce the laws and hold the companies that hire illegals accountable, no jobs for illegals = less illegals. the second is to provide a reasonable path to citizenship and a reasonable way for people to come here to work legally.
