  7. "By reducing costs through not-for-profit insurance", great idea. "reducing nuissance malpractice suits that need to be settled", excellent idea. "having more doctors paid annual salries instead of by the procedure, etc." My wife is paid a salary (air force) and she averages 80 hours a week in the hospital. the OB chief (the one i spoke of in an earlier post) is lazy, so she dumps work on my wife. my wife did twice as many deliveries last year as her and spent many more nights in the hospital, but they made the same amount of money. also, since she is salary, she gets stuck doing administrative duties and coding that in the private sector would would be done by lower paid employees such as nurses, secretaries, and techs. this takes time away that she could be using to see patients, which in turn, limits access. 8. thanks for the links. it seems that there is a problem with infant mortality in the usa, but there's not a clear reason as to why, but it does suggest that its poor people who's babies die more often. it seems to back up my claim that affordability is a bigger problem than quality. 9. how so? back that up please. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
  10. as far as i know, the average american with health insurance goes to the same doctors that wealthy people go to. if there is some special upper tier of physicians (barring cosmetic surgeons) that don't accept health insurance and only cater to rich people paying cash, please enlighten me. as far as infant mortality rates, please provide some data to back that up, along with infant mortality rates of other industrialized nations and the third world countries you speak of and analysis as to the cause of the rates. so what that our life expectancy is below that of many other nations. we are fucking fat. we're eating ourselves to death. blaming the health care system for our unhealthy lifestyle choices is like blaming a professor for a student's poor grade when the student chooses not to study. i'm not saying that healthcare is the best it can be, far from it, but the quality is not in such a dire state that we need to overhaul that portion of is. lets work on making it more affordable so that the 44 million people without coverage can afford to buy it. 11. since you brought it up, wealthy people can afford the best. if you would be so kind as to give us the breakdown of where all the wealthy people go for medical care, that should be a pretty good indication of which countries have the best health care. lets not confuse quality of healthcare with afforability. 12. what billy said. just show him what salt does and give him his own shaker. that should be much more interesting than eating them. was it one of those little brown slugs, or was it one of those big ass banana slugs? "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
  13. Quote"As for the majority of doctors? I'd like to find a doctor who is more concerned about the patient and least concerned about getting out to the golf course or less concerned about how much money they can surgically remove from the patients bank account." my wife is a doctor, many of my friends and aquaintences are doctors. all of them put patient care as their top priority. i know of only one who will, all other things being equal, put herself into the equation when it comes to medical decisions, but even then she doesn't do anything that will jeoparized patient care. "Same with some doctors. No concern whether you live or die." I've never met a single doctor, or even heard of one who has this attitude. "The concern seems to only be how far can they push the cost with the least amount of service" again, this is untrue i understand you are in a very tough situation and i'm not saying that doctors that you describe don't exist, but they are few and far between. i suspect that you run into more of them with you situation than the average person. there needs to be radical change, but its not the doctors who are at fault here. they are just trying to work within a system controlled by lawyers and insurance companies. the government coming in and taking over health care would be a disaster, but they could set forth regulations that the private sector has to follow. billing is one example. insurance companies decide how much they will pay for any particular procedure. a provider can choose to accept that insurance or not. you don't get to decide how much of a bill you will pay, you have to pay the whole thing. this is bullshit. for example. my wife had an mri done. we got a statement saying that the bill was $2300, and tricare, our insurance, paid $300. we owe nothing, but if we had no insurance, we would have to pay $2300. it is technically against the law to have separate rates for individuals and insurance companies, but there are ways around that that need to be fixed. we also don't have the worst health care, we have the best, for those who can afford it. the care itself doesn't need to be changed as much as the afforability. in order to bring costs down and make insurance affordable for everybody, we need to see where the money is going. given the amount of hard work and sacrifice it takes to become and stay a doctor, i think they deserve what they are making. the insurance companies and lawyers are making all of the profit from the medical industry. we need to find a way to reduce the number of lawsuits and the enormous payouts while at the same time preserving the right to sue. there are bad doctors out there they need to be taken care of, but the vast majority are good people doing absolutely amazing things. insurance companies also need to be looked at. they need to be required to pay the same amount as you would have topay for any particular service. they should also not be allowed to overrule a doctor's decision that any particular test or procedure wasn't required and therefore refuse to pay a bill. there should also be requirements to cover people such as yourself, reguardless of pre-existing conditions. premiums should be affordable to the average person. should should not, however, have to cover healthy people who are too lazy to get off their asses and get a job. i'm sorry that in our current system you cannot get coverage, and that need to change. 16. the best snorkling i've ever done was in cuba. i would love to go there on a vacation. i'm not sure if the embargo does anything for us at this time. i say lift it and start doing some business with them. life could be very good for cuba with our tourist dollars. 17. where does the sierra club suggest we get energy? dams block fish, fossil fuels pollute and cause global warming, nukes create radioactive waste. these are all valid concerns, but somewhere we have to make a sacrifice. solar and wind power will only get us so far. i'm all for nuclear power. having spent 4 years working in nukes, i'm confident in their safety. yes there is a spent fuel issue, but how much real estate would we actually have to sacrifice to store this stuff? nation wide, i don't think it would be much more than a few golf courses worth of land. 18. this would be a question for lawrocket, but don't you have to waive your right to a speedy trial when its the defense that delays the trial? how does all that really work? wouldn't someone really have to drop the ball for this to happen? 21. i can't find i diagram (i didn't look really hard), but the parts i'm refering to are the long muscles that run on either side of spine on top of ribs from the shoulders to the hips. i'm sure we're just talking semantics here, i've never heard it called anything esle but backstrap when it comes from a deer or elk. the tenderloins are the two muscles that are attached inside of the body cavity. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
  22. no, its a backstrap. the tenderloin was eaten the day the elk was taken. and who has the make backstrap tender? every backstrap i've ever eaten was tender. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
