we recently took the kids to great wolf lodge, an indoor waterpark. http://www.greatwolf.com/ the place rocked and they had a game called magiquest http://www.magiquest.com/home.html. there was shit all over the hotel that you could interact with with your wand and every kid there was doing it. it got me thinking that they could do something similar and build a hogwarts hotel where kids could do nothing but quests and adventures. it would make a mint. it was definately a full day. we launched the boat in hammond, oregon and went wsw about 35 miles from the mouth of the columbia river. it was rough and it took about 3 hours to get out there. we then trolled for a couple of hours before finding the fish, but once we found them, we got bit all day. we only got 3 triples and a few doubles, and the rest were singles, so it took us a long time to plug the boat. in the middle of the 3 hour trip back in, around 7:30 pm, a coast guard helicopter showed up and circled us once, went lower and circled us again, went really really low, threw open the door, and circled us a thrid time. the then called us on the radio. it turned out that the boat that we were fishing with that went in around noon got really worried about us, and when he couldn't get us on the radio, called the coast guard and a search was launched. an 18 pound sea bass is nice. we have black sea bass up here. when i go halibut fishing out of sekiu, washington, i like to do some bass fishing, but this year it sucked, i only caught one. i blackened it and it was awsome. next year i'll plan my trip around better tides instead of going opening weekend of halibut season. i grilled some up on sunday and was expecting it to fall apart, but only one steak crumbled just a little bit, the rest were nice and firm, but i did make the steaks about 3 inceh thick. today i am going to cut them in half, so i'm expecting more crumbling. i did made the steaks out of only the firmest part of the top loins. we did cut one up on the boat and it was a huge mistake. tuna are very oily and it made the deck slicker than shit. the seas were heavy and we were sliding all over and before we could get it cleaned up, we got three fish on at once. we ended up boating them all, but three guys fighting fish and a fourth netting them while getting tossed all over the boat would have made a hilarious video. we didn't eat any of it raw though. i don't know if you can even do it that way or if you have to cool it first. the tuna's body temp is higher than the water. the fish is at about 80 degrees when we pull it into the boat. saturday i went out in the ocean and got pounded by the waves, but 4 of us caught 37 albacore. the end result was that my share was 81 pounds of tuna meat, 23 pounds of it in steak form. now my question is, what goes good with grilled tuna steak? i'm going to marinade it in teriyaki and serve it with steamed rice, but what other veggie should go with it? some sort of stir fry maybe? i spent 6 years in the navy, 4 of it on a ship that spent 6 to 8 months away from home port. going to hookers in other countries was extremely common. its not like we would spend months at sea, in fact the longest i was ever at sea without going into port was 3 weeks. it is however pretty cheap to get a piece in most other places and we like pussy.
