i just don't know enough and don't have enough of a portfolio to buy individual stocks. my wife and i are currently in a debate right now though. we should be getting orders next summer and will have to sell the house. my wife wants to stash away all the cash we can to the tune of $1500 $2000 a month in case we can't sell the house and have to carry the payment after we move. i want to save about half of that in cash and put the rest into her ira. i also have a 401k that i could roll into something else and contribute to as well. if you know what you're doing with individual stocks, you could clean up. i would bet that most of us don't know enough to do that though. there was a couple investers on the radio last night that said they pulled all their investments when Obam became the nomonie for them dems because they didn't want to losse everything when he became president. unless you plan on retiring and cashing in on your investments in the next 4-8 years, that's a stupid move. for the rest of us that have 1, 2, or 3 decades before retirement, leaving it in is the way to go. most of the time, knee-jerk reactions will help alleviate you of your assets. i watched olbermann on monday for the first time in a while. this was the first time i've seen him that i didn't hear attacks on fox news and bill o'reilly. it was, however, an hour long anti mccain/palin tyrade. i don't really care for his style, but that opinion could be skewed because so far i've agreed with none of his opinion. i suspect that until the election, he give give us more of the same so i'll wait until about a week after the election and give him another shot. while he is certainly firmly in the left camp, i wouldn't say his views are extreme as an aside, i remember an angry lesbian named rachel that used to be on air america. is this the same chic that's on after olbermann? its interesting that many people find bill o'reilly to be extreme far right. even people how i concider left but not far left believe this. i guess there is really no right answer to this, it all depends on your perspective. the farther to the left you are, the more extreme right wing you would concider o'reilly. my opinion is that o'reilly is definately to the right. this is coming from the perspective of an atheist, pro-choice republican. he's certainly to the right of me, but more so on the social issues and less on fiscal issues. when i think extreme far right, i think of people like fred phelps and those who protest abortion clinics and gay marriages. i would also have to put the likes of pat robertson in that category as well. ann coulter is certainly far right, but given that i see her public persona as more of a characature than a real person, i go back and forth as to whether to put the "extreme" label on her. those that i consider far right, but not deserving of the "extreme" label are rush, hannity, laura ingraham and the like. dr. laura probably flirts with extreme, but my opinion of her is clouded because she is such a self-righteous cunt. micheal savage is another that hard to place exactly. i'm not sure if he's a characature, or just a cranky old man that needs to step away from the microphone. i guess he could be worthy of extreme since he see's gwb as a liberal. what say you? what is being told to us is that all lending will dry up. we were told that a bill absolutely had to be pushed through immediately or there would be no money to lend anyone for anything, but now that it has been passed, we're being told that it can take up to a year to get all the money doled out. unfortunately many businesses won't be able to wait that long for loans. i don't know if students loans are federally backed, so as to make them a little easier to get, but what we were told before the bill passed was that student loans would dry up to. that could have been bullshit. i wish you the best of luck, it's a rough time to be in your stage of life and i hope you get your student loans. absolutely not. i figure if i can't get bailed out, no one should. my wife and i did everything right. the bank would have loaned us a fortune, but we set the limit based on what we were willing to spend each month. we did our homework and bought a house that was undervalued by $30,000 for the area. we shopped around for the best interest rate. we did not get an arm. we have all but stopped using credit and we watch what we spend. before the end of this month, we will be debt free except for the house. (my wife's car is a lease, but we will have the cash on hand to buy it when the lease is up.) we should be getting orders within the next year and will have to sell. if we have to sell it for a loss, we will not get the difference from the government. if those of us who did things right have to take it in the shorts, why should someone who did it wrong get payed?
