  1. you are probably right about the political motivation of this, but i'll take it. i agree with what obama has done on this one. i think the point will be that it will make a ceo very reluctant to take bailout money, and with the stock thing, motivate them to pay us back so they can be their own entity again. 2. my point is not that i'm apathetic to the next generation, of course i want my children, and futue grandchildren to live out happy healthy lives and die at whatever time is appropriate. my point is that there is a finite number of generations to come after me and whatever that number is doesn't matter. some generation at some time will be the last one and it will likely suck to be them, but there's nothing i can do to stop it, and i'm ok with that. 3. um, yes? Basically you said "fuck my kids or their kids, who the hell cares if they can breathe or have food to eat! it doesn't matter, as long as *I'm" good!" By the standard definition of the term, that's, um, pretty selfish. And we CAN stop it...but people with attitudes like yours are the reason we never even try. that is not at all what i said. of course i don't want anythng bad to happen to my kids. my point is that the number of generations after me that there ceases to be human beings is inconsequencial. that doesn't make me selfish at all, it just makes my realistic. what exactly do you want to stop? the eventual end of our solar system? good luck. overpopulation of the earth? just how the hell do you think we should go about that? people with me "attitude" are not the reason why we don't try to stop overpopulation. i don't know if there even is a reason why. its not like some panel of world leaders got together to solve the problem of overpopulation but then decided not to and gave a reason. if you think about it though, there are a couple of huge obstacle that make it an unrealistic thing to do. first you have enough people in this world that will breed like rabits for a number of reasons (religious, cultural, to stupid to use birth control, just want to shit out a bunch of kid like the women this thread was started about). second, there are moral issues, which this thread seams mostly to be about. neither of those things have anything to do with my "attitude". again, i'm just being realistic. something else about your stance is making me say "hmm", but i would like a little further clarification of your stance. are you of the belief that we should somehow stop the population of earth from rising to the point of us dying off of starvation* thereby allowing there to be more generations of human beings until something else causes us to be extict? i ask because in order to cause this, you have to stop humans from being born by somehow setting and enforcing a limit on the number of children born in each generation. let's say this was possible. aren't you just playing a numbers game? you are sort of budgeting human beings. lets not have so many lives now, so we can have them later. *i don't believe humans will cease to exist because of massive starvation unless this massive starvation is caused be something beyond just overpopulation like a nuclear winter, massive volcanic eruption, or some rock from space throwing a bunch of shit in the air. a few people will survive the lean times and then have plenty to eat to make further generations. 4. if my wife had stopped at the base gate (when she got to the gate, the uniform truck was still there going through the process of being allowed on base) and called the sherrif or at least had base security start some sort of paper trail, we may have persued it, but she didn't. my insurance company said they were't going to persue it, and wasn't even interested in getting the contact info for the uniform company. i talked to the uniform company a couple of times asking if they would just send me the amount of my deductable, but they refused and i let it go at that. 5. maybe i'm wrong, but i don't foresee the earth's population leveling off. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
  6. so i'm selfish because i'm not concerned with something that will happen after i'm long gone and i can't stop? i don't get that logic. there will come a time when humans no longer exist in this universe and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. why am i a bad guy for not worrying about how many generations come between my death and that event? jeez, some people need to get a better grip on just how insignificant humans are in the big picture. 7. overpopulation is something that can not be stopped, so who cares if we realize it or not? some day the sun will get really big and engulf the earth too, but i'm not going to lose any sleep over it. i'll be dead before either one happens. it really doesn't make a difference if its 1, 2, or 1000 generations after i'm gone. 8. Ya know, there are worse ideas... Wendy W. Perhaps, but I really fail to see how offering to pay for sterilization would tempt someone who went in for fertility treatments after 6 kids... it wouldn't, but overall it would reduce the number of kids born to parents that couldn't pay for them. in the interest of full disclosure, while i wasn't payed to get sterilized, i was sterilized on the taxpayer's dime, and in the long run it will save tax dollars. 9. very good points. you would have to tread very lightly. i'm just trying to come up with some sort of check (as in checks and balances, not paycheck) without legislating it. that's one of the reasons we have the right to sue, right? the bottom line is, this wasn't a decision made in the heat of a moment, it was made with a lot of time to think about it by someone who should have known better. and by the way, doctors have been sued and lost for sillier shit than you just mentioned. i guess i have to revert back to my other idea. i believe it was brought up several years ago, and the left threw a tizzy fit over it saying it was nothing but a plan to reduce the population of blacks or something like that. 10. obviously you can't legislate numbers of children or set criteria for having children, but in this case, the doctor should never have done this. i certainly don't take the idea of sueing doctors lightly, but maybe in the case the people of california could sue the doctor for any costs incurred by the state because of this. he went way outside the standard of practice here, and the people of a broke state have to foot the bill. maybe he should have to pay some sort of child support. 11. we don't need manditory birth control, just offer to pay people to be sterilized. it may not have prevented this case, but the net effect would be positive. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
  12. no you can't. you have to have plans, do surveys, get permits, do go through whatever other red tape is involved in large construstion project. you could hand over the money today, and it would still be months if not longer before manuel labor picked up his first shovel. 13. the same rules should apply to both of them. clinton is just a much bigger attention-getter than that other guy. if its decided hillary has to go, then the other guy has to go too. if he doesn't go, you will see a big fuss made over it. 14. jobs that i had to fill out a W-4 for, i've had 7. i've now been a stay at home dad for a few years, so while i'm not nervous about losing my job, the idea of looking for a job seams kind of daunting, since i won't be going back into my old trade. 19. buying individual stocks are prettyy risky.but whether or not he should do it depends on what he has going on investment-wise. if your talking about a large percentage of if a portfolio, he should go with mutual funds, and definately more than one. if its just a small percentage, have fun, but treat it like a trip to the casino. 20. a while back, bill von explained it much better than i ever could about the mix of socialism and capitalism that we have and why its necessary to have some socialism and how purely one way or the other is bad. we now have too much socialism in this country, and i'm going to put some of that blame on bush for pushing through the first bailout package. yes, the military is socialistic. as far as willing to live through a depression, of course i don't want a depression, but if one happens, i'll live through it, as will almost everyone else. i just don't believe that this stimulus is going to stave one off if it is coming. the money is just going to come out way too fucking slow to get money moving around. if you want to get money moving, you have to put it in the hands of consumers, and the only way i agree with doing that is to not take it from them in them first place. they don't want to do that because they're afraid people will do terrible things like save it or pay off debt. WTF!?!? aren't we in this mess because people didn't save money and couldn't pay their debts? "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com

  22. The difference is where the money is being spent. I'm not crazy about this bill either, and I'm pretty pissed off about the handouts over the last few months (especially the part that involved $18 billion in BONUSES for Wall St). But the only bright side (if there is one) is that this money will be spent in the US, which essentially means that there's at least a slim chance that it will benefit us better than the policy of throwing cash out of the back of a truck in Mesopotamia. $0.02 i think the astronomical amount trumps any difference in where this money is spent. this is a lot of fucking money. this is our fault though. we voted back in the ass-clowns who voted for the first bailout. 23. republicans don't have a monopoly on hypocracy. dems have been screaming for 8 years (and rightfully so) about massive spending, yet the first thing they with their new-found power is tryi to outspend bush. not good for any of us. "Your scrotum is quite nice" - Skymama www.kjandmegan.com
