  2. man, that sucks. http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/1/31/another-spill-reportedatwvirginiasfreedomindustries.html please go to this thread and sign the petition. i don't want to get this one moved, and it is political. and it even has a video of me giving a short speech at the state senate committee hearing. we can make a change, but not alone. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4595560;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  3. i guess by now you're all aware of the water crisis here in wv. well, i had a thread on the bonfire where i asked for help, and it worked. well, andy908 gave some good advice, and i took it and ran with it. i found the groups, went to the meetings, got off my ass and helped with water and signed people up on lists to help get petitions signed. then, to top it off, i gave a speech (2 min., but it was live and is all over youtube right now, you can see me at 21 minutes, i was first on the list:https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=m-ch-fea&v=PzcSxCYKbyY&app=desktop.). thanx for the advice andy! maybe the political system is working, we shall see. like i said in my speech, we don't trust them and they haven't let us down. i am going to ask all of you to sign the petition at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/investigate-mismanagement-wv-water-disaster-state-and-county-officials-well-wv-american-water/m9S1TDRC. you need to register to sign, but nothing too bad. the whole thing takes about two minutes on a fast internet connection. it is asking for federal investigation of state and local officials for mishandling the crisis. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  4. you may be safe in doing that, but let me ask you, did you check out the studies linked to in the article, or did you just dismiss it outright? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  5. yep. fortran or anything like it is way before. now, math on the other hand, i actually love and enjoy. and i do not recall that being used in math. and i do believe my statement about not being familiar with much programming would, if not nullify this angle, at least explain my ignorance. now, if you could provide me with some links to some online reference material for chemistry, specifically how carbon bonds are formed and broken down relating to 4-mchm, pph, or formaldehyde, or any interactions with chlorine or flouride, i would appreciate it. i am becoming an activist here trying to get some changes made in regulations of hazards, but some of the groups are linking to bad science, and i don't know who to trust. i do know that when one group puts out bad science, the other side can completely discredit everything else using this example. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  6. nope, just avid at math. i was actually not thinking about computers at all when i made the comment. and that's the first time i've been called a kid since becoming a grandpa for the 3d time. thanx, i think. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  7. and another article talking about a hundred years of industrial accidents. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/01/140116-chemical-valley-west-virginia-chemical-spill-coal/ i remember a carpenter telling me about when they were working on one site of an old chemical plant and they pounded 2x4 stakes in the ground and they caught fire. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  8. i will have to admit to not being an expert in all aspects of programming. or even familiar with a lot of it. i had totally forgotten the pascal reference, it has been ages since i looked at any of that. i humbly stand corrected. and no, i do not remember .ne, must be way before my time. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  9. what does that mean? i suspect it is supposed to mean "not equal to" judging by context. the correct accepted symbol is " != " if i recall correctly. it is still an equals sign with a line through it, but they use this for keyboards now. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  10. no, i mean fix social security. mandatory payments into it already, distribution already there, all we need to do is put back what was stolen from it by the govt and ensure it doesn't happen again. not sure if privatization would work, but maybe. some sort of mostly safe investment to cover inflation possibly. or possibly lockbox would work. everyone puts in his own deductions and that's what he gets to retire on. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  11. it seems to me they could use the effort to actually fix the retirement account that is forced upon all workers now. like maybe putting all the money back into it which was stolen, and making it untouchable in the future by separating it from the government. i mean, it is in place, we use it for everyone, and it should be fairly easy to fix (as opposed to introducing anything new). _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  12. at least the school officials acted like they had some sense when they said they would not bow down to the pressure of said groups. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  13. now, i was under the impression this was not supposed to happen in this country. apparently i was mistaken. businessweek.com/articles/2014-01-22/forget-west-virginia-dot-chemical-spills-are-an-american-tradition _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  14. after reading more on the link i posted earlier, i found that it was in question as to the intentions of the law. but they are having a town hall meeting tomorrow at 4.30, i'll be there. and also there are two events thursday at the capitol, one at 8.45 the other at 10.30. i plan on being there as well. anyone else want to come down and hang with us, the more the merrier. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  15. so that would make it a swag, not a wag. still, not too bad. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  16. oik, not directed toward anyone in particular: since i heard no statements trying to refute the fact that these corporations are run for profit, not medicine, i guess i'll put the video camera down. and not one time did i try to say the life expectancy was long, just that we do not need vaccines to live. you guys are too busy banging drums and shouting from soapboxes (metaphorically) to actually think about anything other than your preconceived notions on this, so i'm done. i can accept that i am trying to debate (honestly, not just arguing for fun) with staunch proponents of vaccinations. i did really expect more from this, although, looking at some of the replies, i am not sure why. have fun all, and i seriously hope you don't accept all things you are told by figures of authority as easily as you accept this. must just be the right authority. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  17. this statement alone is crap. we have managed to live for over (however many thousands of years you choose to insert here) without vaccines. how many days are we capable of existing without water? how many without food? we can completely stop vaccinating everyone for everything right now and we will survive. without access to clean water or enough food (non-genetically modified) we will be gone. drug companies are not interested in curing anything, they want to be able to mask symptoms and sell you those drugs for the rest of your life. if they cure anything, you buy them once and never again, not a very good business model. since it costs billions to develop the drugs, they need to get a return on investment of enough money to reap a profit. otherwise, they go under. i'm not an idiot, there is good science out there, just as there are useful drugs. this problem i am speaking of may not be as wide spread as i choose to believe, but that is because i am a cynic when it comes to any corporation who says they have my best interest in mind. i hope i am wrong, but the way things are going now, this country is headed for ruin in less than two generations. you don't believe me on this? come on over and have some water. and that is the one that is going on right now. most of the groundwater is poisoned already from the coal industry. sacrifices made by us so that you can have lights. there's a great example of a corporation taking care of the people around it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  18. and speaking of this torque, have you seen the size of these electric motors that pull trains? i have, and unless they are magicians, they won't fit in a truck that goes down the highway. at least if they want to haul any freight. due simply to weight restrictions. 80,000 lbs gvw is the limit, around 35,000 lbs of this is already the truck. so, unless they get very small, you'll have trucks hauling nothing but themselves. and the slogans about 450 miles for a ton of freight by train only works when you put several hundred thousand tons (or some such huge number) on a single train. but, like most things that sound good, it has been translated to mean it's very efficient. it's better than a lot of things, but have you seen the train tracks that lead to the doors of every retail shop or store in america? trucks get the freight to them. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  19. man, you and everyone else here have accepted that these industries have your best interests at heart, not profits. and if you should have to use more of their products, then that means more profits. oh, yes, the government has nothing but your best interests in mind when they hand over the keys to the kingdom to corporations. if any of you would actually be just a tad more paranoid, it wouldn't kill you, and it may save your life. and just in case you and everyone else on here missed, i said that i was not an opponent of vaccinations. and if you can honestly refute what i just said by proving that drug companies can self-regulate without government intervention, then i will kiss my cat's ass and post it on youtube. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  20. now that tears it! the damn senate in wv voted to LOWER the regulation of chemicals! WTF!!! here's the damn hit list. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024388148 _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  21. oh and the "lender" that loaned freedom industries the 4 million to file bankruptcy is a company which was incorporated the day of the filing and the owner is also the owner of freedom industries. is that even legal? and this corruption goes all the way to the top levels, the cover up is deep. i have a friend who actually fears for her life due to asking too many questions. i helped her out by loaning a laptop and making sure it's safer for her. and the legislation was supposed to be rushed through today without the multiple readings which were waived. i haven't heard the results of that yet. when the fox guards the chicken coop, bad things happen to the chickens. check out this link to cracked. http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/4-reasons-chemical-spills-are-way-scarier-than-you-think/ _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  22. when you can make an electric truck that not only pulls hills like they do now, but also goes 600-700 miles on a full charge without being all battery, then you can talk about replacing them. and i did read somewhere once that airplanes emit more than vehicles. try and convert them to electric. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  23. neither do i, but you guys are all ignoring the completely logical exception i have put out there in relation to vaccines. i am not arguing against them, i am saying there are too many, way too early. hep a and b for a 6 month old baby? really? this is an example of the drug industry when allowed to revise recommendations based on profits. and the damn hpv vaccine is nothing more than a farce. the inventor of it even admitted to this. at no place on here do i hear anyone talking about this. do your research before posting anything else. and don't listen to studies funded by the drug industry. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  24. the same way our water is clean, the licorice smell is just flavoring. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  25. we are doing some of these things, and it isn't hopeless, but there is some shit going on here that is bad. i don't want to get into too many details (as they are unproven, it could be bad), but honestly, it wouldn't be the first time. i am going to pass along this post to some of my friends if you don't mind. thanx for the advice. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
