Control Tower possibly going up in DeLand
MikeForsythe replied to skymama's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, it is over, the city commission voted 5-0 for the tower. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is! -

Handles check! Every time she jumps with me she watches every place I put my hands when I am doing checks as to say "just making sure" Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is! -
That is why asked the question "Is this correct". I saw the reserve repack thrown in with the rest of the list. That aside, do you not think that it would have been smarter and safer for him to make a couple of familiarization jumps to get used to the DZ and the aircraft? Also, maybe do a couple of jumps to build up to the dock by conducting controlled flight near each other to see how you each react and communicate? And if it was so low risk then why did it not go as planed and resulted in a malfunction and damage? Everything is relevant on a jump until the jump is completed! ***If I wanted to go for a “drive by sniping” I would have told you that you should not try things like that until you have more jumps than my dog! (she has 67 and two world records to date). Now for the serious side, it is my business! You posted on a public web site. I was very serious when I asked the question because when I hear stories like that it scares me because I know how lucky you, the other jumper and others on the ground were. I have rigs from fatalities in bio hazard bags in my office where they were not as lucky so I tend to take this very seriously. Instead of coming back with something like “why do you ask?” and maybe learn something you went on the defensive. So lets look at the facts of your post and see why I was concerned and see what others responses are. By your admission you were jumping at a new DZ out of a new type plane with someone that you had never jumped with before performing a high risk maneuver with limited basic experience that resulted in a malfunction, reserve ride and structural damage to your gear. Is this correct? That was changing five new things on one jump. When we do test jumps using jumpers that have thousands of jumps and a concurrence of several engineers we rarely change more than one thing at a time and try it. And it is tried several times to proof it before we take the next step. I hope you think about the above and take a new perspective and know that the concern for you is sincere. Best regards, Mike Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

How do you get the canopy in the bag? I can’t find a packer. The Otter has a rattle! I almost didn’t make it over the fence! I sat on the landing because I was still going sideways. Me helping her pack her Vector after watching her trying to pack it and what looked like an epileptic seizure and her saying to me “are YOU sure that is the way you do that?” I still don't know how to respond to that one, maybe I will call the engineering manager at Relative. I doubt it as the last that I knew the FAA lost it and it has not been resubmitted yet. Since it has to be resubmitted it is being gone over again to make corrections that were found after it was sent the first time. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

For our state team we use packs from the Pack Shack and another one that I will have to get the name of on Monday. The ones we use for USAR are crap. If you are a member of NASAR you can get a good discount on GPS's and compasses. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!
