I think Stewie has the right idea: http://www.wimp.com/stewie/ I can't believe no one's posted this yet!

Well I hope you guys don't mind if I chime in from the other side of canopy piloting (the slow one w/ big canopies : ) ). I'm still loaded fairly light on a spectre and just started swooping (if you can call it that). I began slow w/ double fronts--90's and some 180's up high, then downsized to 1.15 WL and started all over again. Even this WL is fast at this altitude. Concerning Steve's question (hey steve!): I think experienced guys do in many cases hold younger guys back, and it's a good thing!! It keeps femurs intact and backs in one piece! What's the worse that could happen--jumper x gets better at flying his canopy before starting to swoop? I really don't see this as a problem at all, in fact Grant warned me yesterday about hook turns--and in a respectful way. Whenever I ask the swoopers at the dz about canopy flight, they are happy to give good advice aimed to keep me flying safe. So yes, while experienced guys may technically be "holding back" some younger guys, it is a good safe practice. Whoever gets upset that a better pilot might be holding them back is not very bright and will most likely end up learning the hard way.

sigh, "I went skydiving, rocky mountain climbing . . ." "All my exes live in Texas . . ."

Just FYI for anyone who was on the email list, apparantly the rates are only good unti Friday, the rest of the weekend has normal rates.

Yes! Definitely The Usual Suspects, my favorite movie. You know the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that . . poof! . . . he's gone. (Dunnnnnnnnnn).

Dude just because there was no noise doesn't mean it wasn't running . . . that baby is super-quiet--the only time it got anywhere close to noisy was when they cranked it up for head down flying. When I visited I couldn't tell if they were flying or not until I was walking up the stairs, seriously. Man I can't wait! (thanks for the tour btw!).

what are cool (or uncool) skydiving dreams you've had?
BenHall replied to unformed's topic in The Bonfire
I had one where I forgot to pull and was about to hit the ground...I was so embarrassed that someone saw me, so I decreased my fall rate a lot and popped back up to 2 grand--then pulled. Gotta be safe you know . . . -
Jesus makes a 245ft cliff jump without parachute possible
BenHall replied to yuri_base's topic in BASE Jumping
Doesn't Jamie also never wear a helmet? I read a quote along the lines of "I don't wear a helmet because if a jump requires a helmet, then maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place." He is an inspiration to all of us. His bindings must be crazy! I bet they go all the way to eleven!! -
The worst I ever heard: my friend in high school was named teddy wang, and unfortunatly his brother's name was Harry. No nicknames, just Harry. Harry Wang. What doctor would let you put that on a birth certificate?

Dude Travis count me in! That's sounds sick!

Just don't try that with Redbull---he probably won't notice the switch!

I believe SOP is a tar and feathering is it not?

The dececptively blue sky is a killer! But alas you forgot to mention the wicked winds, and since it seems like they don't ever put up loads here when winds get above 20, I don't think I'll be jumpin tomorrow either. Haha and yes the feeling is just now coming back in my pinkies after last sunday!

I got one, the MPV, for a christmas gift and ended up returning it. It is failry light w/ the resolutions you mentionned. I'm not sure how it would work in freefall though, it felt pretty cheap and there was no lens cover. I'm not even sure you could even put a lens on it or not. From playing with it, I really didn't get the feeling it would work for skydiving at all--which is why I returned it and bought some radios instead. There was nothing wrong per se w/ the camera functions, it's just that it tries to be too multi-funnctional (w/ the mp3 player and voice recorder and whatnot). For jumping I would stick w/ a more dependable brand, ebay always has cheap offerings. Good luck!

You seriously wouldn't be able to find a PC in less than four seconds when you knew that's all the time you would have? You gotta be crazy! W/ only four seconds, the jumper would probably spend a few hours walkin around w/ his hand on the PC and doing practice pulls. Just count to 4 out loud . . . that really is a long time. On top of that I think the BASE exit would be hand-held, in which case finding it is not an issue (well, I would hope not!)
-
On the contrary, from what I've seen BASE folks think they are doing something extremely dangerous.....which in turn makes them safer. Does that make sense?
-
Just keep in mind that all of those AF freefallers have AAD's for both the main and the reserve . . . and the main AAD goes off a lot. When I went through the program for my first jumps, it was scary to see all of the near horseshoes and incredibly unstable flailing on the review videos (others', not mine : ) ). The huge canopies and 2 FXC's play no small part in the success of the program. However the 3 days of 4 am hazing is still the main reason imo. That being said, the BASE jump would be much safer...I mean the PC is already out and they're landing on water.

BCS Championship - Hmmm. It's a lot like last year.

Steve hey man! Yeah that scared the crap out of me, this game was just incredible! More like the "Rose Bowl brought to you by Vince Young" -

AHHHHH Texas just got possession, gonna pull it out no problem. Hell yeah! -
Like pretty much everyone else here: 1. Remington 870 express 12 gauge 2. Ruger 22/45 mark II semi-auto pistol But I haven't seen my favorite on here yet, looks like so far I'm the only one: 3. Marlin 1895G .45-70 lever action. Man I love this gun, it just costs a crapload to shoot.

USPA downsizing guidelines proposal
BenHall replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm gonna have to say that the 1st jump minimum is way too low--plenty of students would totally eat it on those.......shoot enough eat it already on a 290, they need to start out on a canopy big enough for them to land somewhat okay in the far too common 'zero input freaked out no flare landing'. -
Man I only wish I had your finals!! I have seven 1.Thermal Fluid Systems Engineering 2.Engineering System Dynamics 3.Mechanical Behavior of Materials 4.Diff Eq 5.Engr Stats 6.Econ (finally an easy one) 7.EE for Mech Engineers

Yeah it's ten below right now.......which is MUCH warmer than it was yesterday morning. Oh and the windows don't seal in half our dorm rooms so they fill with snow. Yay. IHTFP.

Could any ski-basers in CO or elsewhere PM me? Just have a few questions, thanks. (Also posted in blinc)
