I used to work for GMC trucks, that’s definitely a Kodiak, it’s a medium duty truck. I had heard they were putting regular pickup truck beds on some of them now, but I hadn’t seen one yet, it’s cute, I like it!! With the mid-range cat engine, that truck has plenty of power and gets great fuel mileage. GMC is now building a 4500 series with a fleet side p/u bed and your choice of a gas big block or a DuraMax diesel.

I jump a Sabre 1 170, I bought all my gear used right after getting off of the student program last year. I’ve taken some slamming openings on that thing, once I swear I felt like I’d been hit by a Mack truck. Just learning to pack I soon learned how important it was to quarter my slider and roll the tail tight, my openings have gotten a lot better, but the “sweetest openings” were from this packer down in Perris, I was there for a canopy course a couple weeks ago and he was packing for me that day. My God…the openings were beautiful. I would drive all the way back down there just to see how he packs my rig, I wish I would have had more time and I could have watched him pack it and asked him some questions. Have fun, Good luck Candy

No....I hadn't heard those stories. I wear a hand mount, a Neptune on my left hand, I usually wear gloves and will start putting my wrist strap under my jumpsuit (I don't know why I had never thought about doing that).

Bummer the pass is still closed, Tioga Pass is one of the most incredibly beautiful drives. Did you come out of Death Valley on Hwy 190 to Hwy 395, if so..... what did you think of Mt. Whitney??

I’ve had a problem lately with not finishing my flare, watching myself on video the other day we figure that I’m automatically preparing to run out my landings ( took a couple of hard hits on the knees earlier this year), so as I start to run my arm swings up, preventing me from doing a full flare. I’m going to really concentrate on my landings this weekend, see if I can drop this bad habit that I’ve picked up. Good Luck, hope you get to jump! Candy

Is that a common problem with full face helmets, even when the lens is said to have been coated with anti-fog direct from the factory?
-
This weekend I bought a Mamba flip-up full face helmet, I had checked out a few online and one of the things that had me interested in this particular helmet and as was stated in the advertisement, was that the helmet was shaped to allow full head movement and the ability to see and locate emergency handles. After trying on a couple different types I found that it was the lightest, most comfortable and had the best field of view. The helmet is also designed to open from the top, by squeezing the lens together at the forehead instead of a push-in button on the chin that could be bumped and cause an unwanted lens opening. I’m a low number jumper and have always jumped with an open face helmet until now, are there any other safety issues jumping with a full face helmet that I should be aware of? Candy

Downsizing - am i the only one?
Candy replied to RossDagley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, you can find yourself backing up in higher winds under a lightly loaded canopy. Don't downsize so you can jump in higher winds - backing up isn't the only danger involved in jumping in winds. Instead, choose not to jump in windy conditions. I am careful not to jump in windy conditions, I've missed out on a few weekends of jumping here lately because of the winds. I've been told that a lightly loaded canopy could be more susceptible to collapse, even in light winds. Either way I will talk to my coach about this, I wasn't planning on doing anything until I was able to talk to a coach, take a course and improve my skills. I think one of the reasons I really thought about downsizing was so I might be able to find a smaller container to fit my body better. Any ideas on that? Thanks for your input. Candy -

I’m planning on downsizing this summer, I bought my rig used last year when I started skydiving, I’m flying a Sabre 170 (little big for me). I’m planning on getting a new rig this fall, so I wanted to demo some smaller canopies but only after taking a canopy skills course which I am scheduled to take this weekend in Perris. I’m downsizing not to go faster, but I’ve been told that a lightly loaded canopy can be just as dangerous, especially in windy conditions, as a too heavily loaded one can be. Have fun and stay safe. Chaoskitty, When I said "don't do it" what I meant to say was.....Go for it!! That looks great, a very cute cut on you. C
