If you had to choose either Clinton or Bush to be next president?

You're right...if it were up the 8 of us, Bush would win. -

Hit Alt-PrintScr. That will save it in memory. Then open MS Paint and paste it. You can then save in several different formats (.jpg, .bmp, .gif, etc.) -
I geve you one...see the other poll

This would be an interesting match up. I think if held today, no campaigning, just BAM...MAGIC ELECTION DAY, Clinton would win it by a small margin. -
Wow...not only is jail for slander pretty messed up, but I still don't understand how some of the "free nations" of the world can allow the state to appeal a not guilty verdict (or the equivalent).

My god, man!!! Don't tell me you've switched teams from sheep to chickens? Wasn't there a south park episode about you...yeah, you drove the bookmobile, chicken fucker!!!

no shit.....my kingdom for a viable opposing candidate!

We'll see...I hope you're right (about the timeliness of the info, not your projection of doom). I just can't believe the hype anymore when we start hearing "hurry up and panic" plastered all over the media. I won't get into the myriad of reasons why I am suspicion of this kind of media blitz. There are many of them and all discussed somewhere amongst these threads. Let it suffice to say I don't trust where the info is coming from. For the past 5 years we have been bombarded by dire, earth ending, projections of doom by any source; from asteroids to microbes, anthrax to ebola, nukes in suitcases to mustard gas in crop dusters. Pardon my suspicion that it might be another keyto the fear and consumption lifestyle to which we are accustomed.

They're already doing that at gitmo. And you know what? You're right...this discussion got diverted into topics about what is and what isn't torture, whether torture is justified, and whether it's being used systematically. All that crap is fluff. The question is...is it right for the CIA along w/ the whitehouse and justice dept. (note, htese all fall under the executive branch) to hide from congress the fact that tey "hold and interrogate suspected terrorists for as long as necessary and without restrictions imposed by the U.S. legal system or even by the military tribunals established for prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay."? I say no. No one branch of gov't should have that much power. And that kind of treatment of human beings, while not torture per se, is diametrically opposed to the ideals of basic human rights that we use to DEFINE OUR NATION! What are we if we are not the nation that holds these truths to be self evident, that ALL men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights? Do we or don't we believe that is true? If we do, let's live up to it. If we don't, let's drop the charade.
-
I would hope that you are right. But I'm still missing the reason that you think they would be covert then? If they aren't doing anything wrong, why hide it from human rights organizations?
-
And I obviously don't believe that you are guilty. But I think EVERYONE deserves the same benefit of the doubt. That's what our (over here anyway) justice system is based on and what we are supposedly fighting to defend. If we compromise those standards, then what are we defending? We might as well elect some mullahs and get on with it. That would stop the terrorism right quick.
-
No shit....if the breach in security is the whitehouse, are we to suggest that the CIA does not share info with them anymore?
-
I have no sympathy for terrorists, but most of the people in these prisons ARE NOT terrorists. Otherwise why did we just release hundreds of them as a good will gesture to cellebrate the end of Ramadan? Because we don't mind releasing guilty terrorists? These are fucking people we're talking about. The vast majority of which didn't do jack shit except try to defend their home from an invading foreign force. To label them all as terrorists is naive and weakens the term terrorist to the point that it could apply to anyone.

I didn't know dictionary.com was a legal reference. But let's suppose it is for a minute. Can you tell me what all of her activities were? You can tell me she was working in an office, but maybe that part of it wasn't covert. By the very definition you posted, you wouldn't be able to say what else she was involved in, because you wouldn't know about it.
-
Neither do I. But those things are going on in gitmo, Iraq and Afghanistan, in the open. You don't think the tactics are harsher in the covert, hidden from scrutiny prisons?
-
Once again...I didn't say we shouldn't prepare. But how exactly are you going to restrict travel in the US to a sufficient degree to stop the spread of a disease? Hell, we can't stop tens of thousands of illegal immigrants from crossing into texas from mexico on a DAILY BASIS. It's a ridiculous notion.
-
Really? I must have missed the trials. When was anyone in any of these prisons, the open ones or the covert ones, "proven" to be a terrorist? You make a big deal about beheading, as if you're more dead when beheaded then by being say, trampled by elephants. Dead is dead, the method doesn't much matter to the dead guy. Because they are ill informed, and human. They want revenge and they think they are doing the right thing. Thinking they are right doesn't make them right. So in addition to condoning torture, you also condone suppression of free speach and the press. You might want to look into moving to the middle east. They've got just the kind of gov'ts you're looking for.
-
No shit...that's good stuff.
-
Well, I believe Mike is from your mother country. Speaking of Mike: Yes, everyone breaks and tells the interrogators WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. Torturers don't stop until they get the info they are looking for. The victims of torture evenutally figure that out and tell them what they want to hear. Doesn't make it truthful or useful in the slightest.

What does? The disease we're talking about doesn't even exist yet. You're referring to a disease people are currently catching from chickens. And it has a 50% mortality rate based on the reported infections. I guess it's impossible to think that people got it, thought they had a normal cold or the flu, and never got diagnosed with the H5 whatever strain. Especially in places like Thailand. It could be. But first, we wouldn't know it was that bad until it were too late to do anything about it. And second, as I said in the beginning, every expert I've seen on the subject has said these policies would have almost zero effect on its spread. What should we try to stop? The point is nothing exists to stop. You've obviously bought into the scare tactic. Whatever will we do about Lime disease, West Nile Virus, and SARS, oh my?
