No...you just proved my point..check out the last two words you bolded. KNOWN CASES. My point is that there have probably been a lot more cases that no one knows about because the people didn't get that sick and din't REPORT THEM TO THE WHO. Did you call the WHO last time you got a cold? Do you now care to re-word your claim of a "50% fatality rate" to a "51% mortality in KNOWN CASES REPORTED TO THE WHO". I just saw your edit about China. So now we're supposed to use China as a guide on when to mobilize armed forces for domestic problems? Are you for real? Ever hear of Tienneman Square?

The state of our futures: World vs Muslim militants

Right...the Gulf War and the 10 years of bombing that followed didn't kill anyone. Not to mention that none of the 9/11 participants were Iraqi. -
Might as well say...."It was not clear why the dog barked." Ummm...THAT'S WHAT THEY DO....DUH!!! Sounds like they were playing hot potato...for keeps no takebacks.

Chicago plans High School for Black Males

So...less intelligent kids are what? Not deserving of assistance? Should be left by the wayside? -
That's such a bogus figure. How many rural South East Asians were infected, thought it nothing more than the normal flu or a cold, and never went to a doctor? I'm thinking they don't have HMO in Cambodia. 50% of those that were so sick that people though it could be bird flu in the first place died. How many never got that sick and were therefore not diagnosed? And as far as the liberal media, I see that it's much more likely in your mind that instead of the whitehouse trying to spin a story, the different media groups got together in a conspiracy to report on the presidents words Actually, you're right though. It probably is a conspiracy by the press.

It's more of a socio-economic bias than racial. It just so happens that many blacks share the same socio-economic background (poor - inner city). -

Not the facts, the method of teaching. How do you explain a new concept to someone? Usually through analogy, or comparison to something with which they are already familiar. If students are too busy trying to figure out what's being used as an example because it is foreign to them, how the hell are they ever going to get to the conclusions? -

It's been proven that blacks do worse at standardized testing because there is cultural bias in the questions. The same holds true for text books and curriculum. What it means is adjusting the curriculum to account for cultural differences. -
No...nice stretch though. I'm talking about Bush's plan to use the military to restrict domestic travel. As in road blocks, etc. And as far as Bush planning for this possibility, that's a good thing. I never said there was anything wrong with it. My comments were regarding the focus this seems to be getting, the amount of press, and the amount of speaking time from the president. He should prepare for this possible problem. But does he need to constantly talk it up as if it's an imminent threat? Or is it possible that it is being publicized so much to distract us from other matters?

If you had to choose either Clinton or Bush to be next president?

Or just maybe some of us are suspicious of everything he does just because of his track record. I don't see how judging someone based on their littany of errors constitutes partisanship.

How so.. notice the word "predominantly". They may be focusing on a certain group but if they are not excluding anyone, shouldn't be a problem. I can't think of many white parents that would want to send their kids to a predominantly black school, though. No one can argue that inner city blacks don't have different challenges in education than suburban whites. Sounds to me like they are gearing the curriculum to address those challenges. There's nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of predominantly white suburban schools whose curriculum better suits those raised in that environment than inner city blacks. This is a non-story. -
Good article in WSJ today about the influence of Muslim leaders in trying to STOP the violence by these independent rioters. Also goes on to talk about there will be bigger problems in the future because these leaders advocate a sub-culture of muslim society within western nations. But in the short term, as it relates to the current riots, the muslim community leaders are trying to stop the violence.

You're right...the monarchies in that region, such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait do that. Let's not forget our good friend Pakistan, ruled by a military dictator. We support those regimes. That's the hypocrisy.

The state of our futures: World vs Muslim militants
ReBirth replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Exactly...we've been propping up the monarchies that repress these people for generations. We get in bed with dictators so that we can trade with them (have access to their oil). People claim they are jealous of our freedom and way of life. They don't know shit about our freedom or way of life. They know about their oppression and poverty and see that we are allied with the regimes exploting them. -
They do have them...just not iPod. There are plenty of good competing mp3 players, some with radio receivers.

ReBirth replied to ReBirth's topic in Speakers Corner
You use Bin Laden as evidence of what a "good portion of the world" thought? I seem to recall the world news during the scandal was more wondering WHY anything was being done about such a minor matter. Are you actually trying to justify OBL's actions because Clinton lied about a blowjob? -
Actually, the blame for that comes mostly from oppressive monarchies that are supported by the west. That's why they hate us. Forget all this shit about them being jealous of us. They are oppressed in their homelands by regimes that we (the west in general) are in bed with. I don't understand why it's necessary for us to spread freedom and democracy by invading, killing and occupying while Musharraf is our biest buddy in the M.E. How fucking hypocritical.

Got mine the day they came out. Love it. I was waiting for something that small with full iPod capablilites (Shuffle is lame). It's perfect for me. I don't need days and days worth of music on my ipod. 4GB is plenty for me and you can't beat the size.

A couple thousand in the US alone. 16 bombing or arsons or attempts at them. Plus over a thousand incidents of Invasion, Assault & Battery, Vandalism, Trespassing, Death Threats, Burglary, Stalking... http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_viol.htm

Dogs don't have to be mean to attack. They're animals. Sometimes something you wouldn't expect scares tha shit out of them and they react by attacking. It's a chance with all dogs trained or not. If you have a breed that is very powerful and viscious when it attacks, you especially have to be cognizant of this fact and take the appropriate precautions.
