Depending on how many jumps you are making, pick up a protec for $30 at the DZ where you choose to jump. Renting 6 times would pay for it. If you don't have room to haul a hard helmet, see if someone at your DZ has an old frap hat you could borrow. Folds flat to pack easily. Sometimes someone on the DZ has a spare alti to borrow. (I've loaned mine out a few times) Providing a six pack once the beer light is on is cheaper than renting. The rental fee on the rig includes the packjob. If you know how to pack the canopy/container system that you rent, see if the DZ will reduce the rental fee if you pack the rig. I love the cards. For a past job, I had to have a cell phone leash on me. If it rang, I had to answer it. I did my best to keep it short and always muffle the conversation with my hand. During one call while on a train, someone near by was talking loudly on their cell. After we were both done, an older female passenger walks by me and in a "mom" voice loud enough for the other caller to hear, tells me how considerate I was and that she wished other people would do the same. I went through AFF at Hollister. Their program is top notch. They go to 15K, so you get a little more time each jump. The landing area is not at the airport, which requires a van ride back. I liked this because I got the full attention of my instructors during the ride for a thorough debrief. Due to its location, when the other locations are weathered in, Hollister seems to still be able to jump. I also jump at Davis & Byron and as skybytch said, you can't go wrong there either.
