Want to pick a country in Africa??? How many innocents have died on the African continent in the last 8 years??? Think we will be going to North Korea anytime soon??? a hell of a lot more people have died there than in Iraq...under Sadaam by far Oh thats right.... NO OIL We went to Korea and still have troops there. How much has the percentage of Iraqi oil imports increased since 2003? And don't deflect. I'm just pointing out FACT. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I guess from where you are sitting.. you rely on it for job security. Its not paranoia to point out FACT Mikee... but the attempt to always redirect is pretty transparent... Me thinks the paranoia on your end is having to look for a job in another sector. So if someone doesn't serve in the military then they're not allowed to have a positive opinion of military action. But if you do serve in the military then you only have a positive opinion because of job security. Excellent logic. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

US Taxpayers: Get Ready to Bend Over...AGAIN...
FallingOsh replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
A rep from Ford said they won't be taking any money right now. They've sold enough brands and restructured enough to survive, in his words, at least a year or two longer with no help. Listening to the big 3 in front of the senate committee, it was made clear by the GM CEO that the loan would start to be paid back in late 2010 with full repayment by 2012. I think those were the numbers he gave. Regardless, GM has a plan to repay all of the money. I have no idea if that will actually happen or not, but that's their plan. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Maybe the right are raising eye brows because his post election rhetoric is actually more in line with what we believe. He kept Gates. He's not pursuing charges against those who participated in "harsh interrogations." He supports a compromise on domestic phone taps. He's rethinking an appeal of the Bush tax cuts. What would be interesting to me is if the left continues to sing his praises if he keeps going against what you've preached on these boards. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

GWB - Again: Mission (Nearly) Accomplished
FallingOsh replied to christelsabine's topic in Speakers Corner
This one, f.e.: "Americans should be able to agree that it is in our nation's strategic and moral interests to support the free and democratic Iraq that is emerging in the heart of the Middle East.” Just read. That isn't a lie. If you disagree with the statement, ok, but that doesn't make it a lie. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -

Which part of that article do you consider a lie? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Agreed, but if you're looking up to the government for financial guidance then you have bigger issues. Wow, that's quite a stretch just to point a finger at the right. Tax fraud is just as wrong, but is a totally different conversation and has nothing to do with food stamps. Nor, anywhere so far in the thread, has anyone made it a right vs left argument. I'm sure there are people on both sides of politics who abuse government programs and/or cheat on taxes. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

The difference is understanding "disposable income". If you make $20K a year and have 2 kids, then you are spending every cent you have trying to eat and live somewhere. I think this was the whole point of the OP. The people who should be spending every cent on a house and food are instead walking around with iPhones. It actually fits well with the rest of your post. The AIG douches who were going bankrupt spent cash they didn't have on a rediculous vacation. It's kinda the same thing as the food stamp deal, but on a much larger scale. Living outside your means occurs on all levels of income. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Personally, I think this is the real world personification of what's wrong with government hand outs. The idea is great on paper. We'll help those in need of food and life necessities. The assumption is that nobody will abuse the system. In reality, people who refuse to pull themselves up and actually take pride in living off freebies will always drain the system. Then bitch that the system doesn't give them more. On paper, looks great. In reality, pays people who enjoy sitting on their ass. I had an interesting discussion in an economics class about the true intent of food stamps. The question asked by the professor regarded the difference between giving food stamps and just giving cash. Of course the knee jerk answer is that giving food stamps ensures the purchase of only food. However, when the entire financial situation of the recipient is taken into consideration, there's no difference. $200 in food stamps simply frees up $200 in overall wealth. The only time food stamps guarantee just the purchase of food is if there is zero money otherwise available to the recipient. Otherwise, any other cash on hand would be freed up to spend on said accessories like cell phones and shoes. Just an interesting topic, I thought. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Ok. Evolution intended it to be that way. 1)Evolution doesn't intend anything. It just happens. 2) One of the closest species to humans exhibits rampant homosexual behaviour. 3) An advantage of having big brains is that we don't have to organise our societies strictly along the lines of what happens in nature. Animals don't get married. They screw whatever they want whenever they want. They also fling poo at each other. See point three. Your point three negates point 2. First of all, just because I'm religious doesn't mean I'm fucked up. Just because you're not religious doesn't mean you're fucked up. Second, the analogy to animals is again contradictory to your third point. Just because animals fuck whoever they want, eat each other, and fling poo doesn't make it ok. Third, the last paragraph is entirely based upon your opinion. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

This thread is clearly about TEXAS, not any other state. Read the title. Yeah, no pointing out hypocrisy allowed! -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

In remarks to the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, Nagin said the hurricane "exposed the soft underbelly of America as it relates to dealing with race and class." "And I, to this day, believe that if that would have happened in Orange County, California, if that would have happened in South Beach, Miami, it would have been a different response," the mayor said. Israel Preparing to Strike Iran Without U.S. Consent

Um... Bay of Pigs... Operation Mongoose... Not to mention the world was within seconds of a nuclear war. But yeah, good example. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Because the government doesn't give a shit about you and your wallet - It's not about YOU. It may give a damn about longer term access to oil though. According to SOFA, we'll be out by 2011. How do we access the oil then? Actually, how are we accessing it now? The table I posted showed less than 4% of our oil was imported from Iraq in 2007. If long term access to oil was the only goal, I think Venezuela would've been an easier target. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

In the spirit of the thread title and arguing semantics, GW accepted full responsibility while Nagin turned it into a race issue. Contrary to popular belief, not all N.O. residents blamed Bush. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Anyone who actually believed that we went to Iraq because of WMD and liberating the Iraqis ( Operation Iraqi Freedom.... so Orwellian NewSpeak) has just enough intelligence to rank as a moron. It was ALWAYS about the oil.... and the PNAC told the American people they were going there one way or another... dead americans are just pawns to be used for their geo-political and personal financial goals. Then why did gas prices sky rocket up until a month ago? Any idea what percentage of oil is imported from Iraq? How many oil wells does America now own in Iraq? If we were actually in control of Iraqi oil then breaking OPEC would probably be a top priority. They just reduced production by 1 million barrells a day to drive prices back up. I'd be interested to know what Marg thinks about that claim. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I like that Rumsfeld is staying on. Don't get upset. There's still plenty of religion bashing, Bush trashing, gun rights slamming, conservative hating on this forum. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -

While I agree with most of your post, some did not have the means to leave. That's why I get pissed at the local government. Nagin didn't do shit to evacuate his city and the governor did even less. The BS that went on in New Orleans in the days after is also why I laugh at people who blame Bush. Remember the choppers carrying supplies who were shot at by people on the ground? There's plenty of "blame." Residents chose not to help themselves or took the opportunity to run wild. The local government didn't facilitate evacuations. FEMA leadership was disgusting. People at home in front of their TVs think humans can actually fight or be blamed for a category 5 hurricane. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Hillary - She's Been Asked And She Said YES ..
FallingOsh replied to christelsabine's topic in Speakers Corner
You know, this isn't 2006, when not too many voters knew very much about Obama yet. But in the past several months, the electorate did a pretty good job of educating themselves on Obama's personal, academic and professional resume. According to Kallend, not me, believing anything someone says on the campaign trail qualifies for mental disability. Therefore, we still know nothing about him. Obviously you disagree with that like I do. I personally think promises made on the campaign trail should hold some weight. That's a big reason why we vote for them. I also know things change over 4 or 8 years and some promises are no longer reasonable. Being President-elect for less than a month and already doing things like appointing Hillary makes me a little weary of his true views vs. what he said pre-election. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Yeah, fuck em. We'll just turn a blind eye, I guess. History has proven isolationism and appeasement work, right? Let's do that again. Your only measure of success contiues to be cumulative death numbers, which will always, in any case, be worse than the previous day. There are more people dead today because of AIDS than there were in 2004. Do you think no progress has been made? We lost roughly 250,000 military members in WWII. How do you classify our success in that war? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
