short story about birdmen in a CASA at Jumptown.
veter_ replied to lurch's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Yeah, it was a lot of fun! 100mph. The UFO turned out to be Mike's helmet which he lost in flight. Mike was about 300ft below and in front of me on our 6-way. Lesson learned: don't fly directly behind another bird at your glide angle! -
Yes, I meant, are new canopies actually test jumped before shipping to the customer. Helmut, Ray Losli: thanks, I'll keep that in mind

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in!!! -
Bummer!!! - woke up at 6am on Saturday, drove to CT, stopped to refuel and realized that I forgot my wallet at home!!! Found $4.23 in the pocket, got about 1.5gal of gas and barely made 55 miles back to NYC. Checked forecast again, called CPI, it didn't look good - low overcast everywhere. Didn't jump this weekend. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Looked at some specs and if Vo=24m/s denotes initial speed, after a 43m vertical drop the vertical speed will be about 30m/s, bringing the total speed to about 38m/s, which is almost 80% of terminal velocity. So why landing a wingsuit is such a big ordeal if skiers land at 80% terminal routinely without one??? Someone, please, just do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, ok, we now have enough base chicks for a calendar. Now we need naked Faber for the cover of "BASE Kalendaar 2006"!!!

Jaap, thanks a lot for digging up the gold!!!

Unless you jump INTO a smoke stack. Then it's easy. When you deploy, the parachute jams the tube and safely stops you just inches from the owen.

Chopper and biplane $15, too? -

You raise a valid safety point. Why not just hold the brake line above the toggle attachment point, without wrap? E.g. you bring your hands together and grab the line higher while helping with the other hand. In case of spinning malfunction you just release the line and your hands are in the toggles which you can quickly release.

Collapsible Pilot Chutes - Unnecessary additional risk?
veter_ replied to xavenger's topic in Safety and Training
How about malfunctions when pilot chute gets under the nose of the canopy? Will uncollapsed PC cause a problem? -
Are there any radiation level detectors for AM/FM available to consumers? While effects of radiation on humans is a controversial subject, relative level of radiation for different antennas (or different places on same antenna) is valuable data.

Is it working? It seems to only take shipping info, no payment info. Anyone ordered the DVD?

Did another 10 Prodigy flights over the weekend (the most cool one was a helicopter jump from 3700ft with 14s delay ). However, on my last jump something whipped my left ankle (and to lesser extent, the right one) so hard that I almost screamed in pain! Continued to fly since I jumped about 2.5 miles from the DZ. Upon opening, I looked at the shoe strap and it was closed. The velcro holding the strap was also closed. The zipper was closed. Still can't figure out what was whipping my ankle so hard that I can barely walk now! Any ideas?

Me! New York - Moscow. Night, stars, everyone's sleeping... Amazing girl. Unforgettable. I wouldn't jump from THAT plane, though!

If there will be many rangers blowing the wind at 100-120mph at about 30 degrees angle to the ground, we can land our wingsuits without parachutes!!! No law broken.

like in, mmm... skydiving?

I'm in the 2nd group, too, but I'm planning on dressing in NPS uniform, making my way to exit point undetected and jumping first!!!
