There can't be an "Us" without a "them." When others are alienated because they are not one of "us," whether it be because of race, religion, or nationality, that is bad. I'm American because that is the country in which my parents had sex; its not something I'm proud (or ashamed) of. I'm not superior to an Iraqi or an Iranian or a Cuban or a Mexican or any other nationality, just because I am American. I don't identify myself by my country. Math tutoring available. We are the nationalists. Have you not seen the "Proud to be American, "United We Stand," "These colors never run," etc. bumper stickers. Patriotism is Nationalism. Two words, one meaning.

Practical testing is not worthless, but its value is increased tremendously when used with conjunction with engineering / math. Are the privates in Basic Training the foremost experts on the gas mask after the trip to the gas chamber? No. They do learn to trust their equipment, and that is good, but they do not learn why their equipment works, or its limitations. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! So far as I can tell, from talking to american students and foreign skydivers, there are two kinds of people in the world right now. Those that feel Osama bin Laden and crew are the greatest threat to the world, and those that feel Bush, Rummy, Wolfowitz, Blair, Sharon et al are the greatest threat to the world. I have no doubt that all of the above believe they are doing a great service to mankind, as did Hitler. Nobody does anything that they don't believe is the right thing to do, no matter what their reasons. Ethnocentricity, even under the guise of patriotism, is bad. The Nazi's weren't bad because they were socialists; they were bad because they were nationalists, and felt that anyone who wasn't one of them was somehow inferior. If an "us against them" mentality is developed or nurtured, everyone loses. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

More likely, I would have already obtained the information, just like I took a ground school before making my first skydive. During the fact is a poor way to learn. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I'm not trying to pick a fight, only illustrate the significant weaknesses of a system he believes is infallable. He claims the engineering side can offer no useful info, and I am saying that that is where the majority of useful info comes from. Physical testing is great for verification, but as a first means of information, it is a poor path. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Protractors are what people who do not understand trigonometry use to measure angles. I've haven't used one since elementary school. I would not want to be in a unit that did such half assed experiments with equipment that their life depended on. Much better to get reliable information from a competent engineer. There is no substitute for good intelligence, and that is something your limited experimental methods cannot provide. Distance Angle Round material air density air viscocity Change any one of those variables a little bit, and the critical angle changes. You did test all of those variables, right? Because if you didn't, your conclusion is invalid. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

A handgun is a rather poor weapon in close quarters. Inside of seven feet, they are cumbersome, and tend to take way too much time, which a surprised pilot won't have against a prepared hijacker. Other weapons would be preferrable. Why not have something similar to a DB cooper switch to make it impossible to breach the cockpit during flight? The switch could be dependent upon airspeed, or the load on the front landing gear (how a stick shaker is switched off). Guns are like big hammers. There are very few problems they won't solve, but they are rarely the best solution. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

In America, they first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then, they came for the druggies, and I didn't speak up because I didn't use drugs. Then they came for the dissenters, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a dissenter. Then they came for the homosexuals. I didn't speak up because I was straight. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak up." Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Would you be kind enough to tell us what the critical angle that means the difference between deflection and penetration? For you to do pratically what can easily be done theoretically with basic Trigonometry and Calculus (and knowledge of materials) would require a multitude of shots from different angles from a multitude of different distances. And, to be objective, each shot should be aimed at a new flak vest, so as to preclude cumulative damage. Don't forget quality control, so each distance/angle combination should be tested a few times to make sure all vests meet the same standards. And not all rounds are created equal, so you need a seperate test for each different type of round. So to get an idea of the complete performance envelope by your method of test shooting one another, would require thousands of rounds and flak vests. There is a reason scientists do not use trial and error (fire for effect) as their primary means of obtaining useful data. So, once again, what was that critical angle? Math tutoring available. First, we won the American Revolution because we were aided by, you guessed it, France. I have found no example of a general well studied in Taoist warfare (Sun Tzu) that has been defeated by a general well studied in western war. Just because we are the best funded does not make us the strongest military. Great generals do not win close battles. Great generals resolve conflict before there is a need for bloodshed. We focus on new technology, instead of fundamentals, so we are always prepared for the last war, and not the next one. Sun Tzu teaches to use situation to your advantage. That this war is different than the last could have been used to our favor, and not to our detriment. The key word is popular, as from the population, not from Congress, who gave permission to invade Iraq ONLY AS A LAST RESORT. He has never had popular support from his countrymen. As far as the rest of the world, the reason we have such a bad image worldwide is because we expect everyone else to submit to the authority of the international community, but we feel that we are above it. I've never met anyone who like a hypocrite. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I got that from one or more of Stephen Hawking's books. It is a sound argument. It is true there is more mass to the universe than is currently accounted for, and one hypothesis among several to explain that is dark matter. However, considering that gravity and light move at the same speed, it is highly probable that there is more to the electro-magnetic spectrum than meets the eye, so to speak. A better understanding of that would likely eliminate some of the mystery pertaining to the universe's mass. Thanks for the Astronomy pointer, but I have already taken a university level Astronomy class. I love relativity theory, quantum theory and chaos theory. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! We knew the earth was round long before Columbus. That's just one of the lies your history book told you. Another: Copernicus first proposed the sun was at the center of the known universe. Actually, Aristarchus (d.230 BCE) proposed a helieocentric universe. Of course, as recently as 1994, the Catholic church has acknowledged that Kepler was right, the Earth does rotate around the sun. We must also consider that the King James version of the Bible was not the first place these stories appeared. They have been changed from earlier versions that appear in the Torah. Have you ever studied Sun Tzu? 2500 years ago he wrote a very short book that has come to be known as The Art of War. It is the single most comprehensive work concerning military leadership, strategy and tactics. Today, probably ninety percent or more of that book is still applicable. It has NOT CHANGED all that much. Bush, Wofowitz, Rumsfeld and the rest of the cronies sent american troops to invade a foreign sovereign, without popular support at home or abroad, without just cause. His generals warned him of the problems he would have without sufficient troop numbers. We are not experiencing unanticipated problems. We are experiencing problems the generals anticipated, but Bush chose to ignore. Didn't we learn from Viet Nam? Politicians are not generals. IMO it IS criminal negligence. Math tutoring available. I've worn it. It's hot, heavy, and generally sucks. I've never shot at it. Lightfighters aren't well equipped, by design, so we make the most of our equipment and supplies. We would never waste bullets by shooting at the armor. Yes I've been issued a set. And I have gotten more useful information about body armor and HMMWV armor from books and internet than Uncle Sam was ever willing to teach me through class or experience. Math tutoring available.
