The lack of critical thinking skills was in reference to your comments. I guess I can add poor reading comprehension skills, too. But thanks for reinforcing my perceptions! Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

She's the front runner because most Democratic primary voters felt she was the best candidate. She largely shares Sanders' ideals, but actually has a plan to accomplish some of them and get the country on a path towards accomplishing others. She has a history of accomplishment as First Lady, in the Senate, and Secretary of State. She also has a history of resiliency and is likely to withstand the pressures of the inevitable Republican witch hunt. But go ahead and continue HatingHillary™. I understand it's one of your favorite pastimes. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I agree, and I'll be voting. She was my first choice in 2008. I'm less enthusiastic about her this year (due to her increased age), but she still strikes me as having a good balance of idealism and pragmatism. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Like who? For some reason the only people who seem to have any mass appeal either got no-where in the primaries, or weren't even part of them. Primary campaigns tend to be a race to the extremes, while general election campaigns tend to be a race back to the center. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Improper use of karma is another one. It traditionally refers to the belief that, roughly speaking, actions in this life will help determine the starting position in future lives. It has nothing to do with actions in this life coming back to bite us later on in the same life. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

When young children first learn to count and begin doing basic arithmetic, they are typically presented with only the natural numbers, i.e., {1, 2, 3, …}. That does not mean that the natural numbers are the only numbers that exist. As they learn more about math, they are introduced to the rest of the integers, i.e., {…, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …}, the rationals, i.e., {a/b : a is an integer, b is a natural number}, and eventually the irrational numbers, completing their introduction to the real numbers, and then imaginary numbers. Gender is the same way. When children first learn about gender, they learn that it's binary. It's presumed tough to explain to young children that some kids are born with an ambiguous gender, not clearly male or female physically. It's presumed tough to explain to young kids that some children are born intersex, with some features of each gender. And it's perceived difficult to explain to them that not every child identifies mentally with the gender they present physically. However, unlike basic math, the topic is not re-addressed later by most people, unless they or someone close to them has to deal with these issues. Now, some people, such as yourself, are resistant to learning the un-simplified reality. You find it unfathomable that the explanations you were given as a child could be anything but the absolute truth. That is no way suggests what you learned is the truth, no matter how tightly you cling to it, resisting knowledge and education. The problem arises when people who share your mindset try to legislate their ignorance through fear and misinformation, which is what is happening in NC. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! North Carolina Anti-anti-discrimination law
jcd11235 replied to wolfriverjoe's topic in Speakers Corner
So you're advocating that states sidestep the Constitution? Check out Article 6 and the fourteenth Amendment. 10th Amendment? Hmmm! The tenth amendment is a truism. It does absolutely nothing to change the meaning of the Constitution. That being said, the discrimination by NC is prohibited, and not protected by the tenth amendment. Math tutoring available. I selected a random article. No links to sources. Try reading my post again, more slowly this time so you don't get confused. I provided it as an example of a blog that provides sources so that claims can be easily verified. That's really an absolute minimum standard considering the extraordinary claims you're making, don't you think? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

I did look. The first article on which I clicked had no sources cited. The blog's "about" page said they would not respond to requests for sources. Why would I further waste my time? Here is an example of a credible source. Here is an example of a blog that does a good job of linking to their sources to make it practical to check claims. Math tutoring available. Agreed. If one cannot perform their duties without passion or prejudice, they have no business wearing a badge. The moment the suspect was out of the vehicle and prone, the responsibility of law enforcement was to keep him safe and in their custody. It was a BS claim. In your "short list", where is the OKC bombings? Where is the SC church shootings? Where is the Joseph Stack suicide attack on the IRS? Where is Eric Rudolph's Olympic bombing? Where are all the abortion clinic attacks/bombings? You can't just ignore the majority of US terrorist attacks, retaining only those committed by Muslims, and use that list to support your claim that Muslims perpetrate the majority of terrorist attacks. Seriously? Do you think I was being disingenuous by posting the Trump interview in which he discussed Clinton, pointing out the drastic change in his behavior and rhetoric? If you're going to hijack a thread with your anti-Muslim bigotry, it least try to be intellectually honest about it. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

No one is suggesting that we don't need a filter. His supporters were meant to infer from Trump's comments that we should filter based on religion, banning Muslims. What you have done in this thread and others is make a BS claim about the proportion of terrorism on US soil perpetrated by Muslims. We've long disagreed on issues, but I can remember a time when you at least presented academically honest arguments and I could look forward to reading your posts. Math tutoring available. People often make the mistake of concluding that if a model gives a 90 percent probability of an event occurring, then if that event doesn't occur, then the model is wrong. That isn't the case. There are many algorithms that can be used for predicting classifications, that is predicting whether a future observation belongs to class A or class B. (We're not actually limited to two classes.) For example, we might want to develop a model that can automatically determine whether a baseball team will win (class A) or lose (class B), given the opponent, park, pitcher's ERA, etc. Some algorithms make predictions by first calculating a probability of an observation (a game, in our example) belonging to a particular class. So, if the model determines there is a 75 percent probability of a win, then a win is predicted. When we are performing diagnostics on the model, if we find that predictions based on a 75 percent probability are correct 90 percent of the time, that's a problem. Likewise, if they're correct only 60 percent of the time, that's a problem. Predictions based on a 75 percent probability of of an observation belonging to a particular class should be correct about 75 percent of the time. If an accurate, unbiased model gives a 2 percent probability of an event occurring, we still expect that event to occur about one time in fifty. Those are long, but nowhere near impossible odds. The question we should be asking is, "how often do candidates who are given a 2 percent probability of securing the nomination actually secure the nomination?" Unless that number is statistically significantly different from 2 percent, then concluding the model is wrong is not justified. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! More interestingly, 39 percent of those who voted for Sanders would vote for Trump if Sanders gets the nomination. That tells us about 39 percent of those who voted for Sanders were actually Trump (or at least Republican) supporters casting spoiler votes. (ETA: Source) Sanders received 123,860 votes. Clinton received 86,354 votes. Let's adjust Sanders' tally to remove the crossover spoiler votes. 123,860 * .61 = (approximately) 75,555, well below Clinton's total. There were probably some spoiler votes cast against the "democratic socialist" Sanders, too, but not likely as many, since HatingHillary™ has long been a Republican pastime. Math tutoring available.
