  1. I'm sure some in Congress did, while some didn't. I don't think all Congresspersons have access to classified versions of intelligence reports. Some do, but I think most do not. Agreed. People are easily manipulated via fear. Bush and some in Congress perhaps, but as a single entity, no, they didn't know what he knew. Why is that bad? I have no problem with Iraq (or Iran or any other country) having a nuclear energy program. I also have no problem with them having nuclear weapons, but that's a whole different topic. Agreed. That was the point I made. If Bush had not lied made statements based on faulty intelligence, Congress would not have passed the resolution. Yes, I agree that Bush was going to have his war, Congress be damned. As a whole, they didn't. Some individual Congresspersons may well have known the claims of Iraq posing a threat were BS, but as a group, I don't think Congress did. They simply don't have the same access to intelligence reports that the President has. You make a good point there. They could have and should have asked tougher questions. Agreed. With this post, you addressed it well. Thanks. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  2. Yes, it's a terrible shame to see how badly oppressed you are in the US. I'm as confident there are worse palaces as I am that there are better. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  4. Nah, you need it way to much since you are judging who you think has has a "holier than thou attitude". Almost as ironic as RL's post. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  6. News flash.....she was not the one that I was sugesting was clueless. I know. Perhaps you should check out that mirror you mentioned previously? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. Personal attack? Full frontal assault. LMAO Oh, how the unfounded accusations fly! You'll notice who keeps making it about her when attempts are made to bring it back on topic? (Hint: it isn't me.) So, do you have anything topical to add, or are you just here to cry foul? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  8. Nope. Still wrong. … No, it's still right. You keep trying to make this about you. It's not about you. It's about the assistant working at Planned Parenthood you described in post 100 of this thread. She has a job to do, and it's not typically up to her to decide whether or not the task is required or elective, just like the convenience store clerk who is asked to sell cigarettes, and just like the soldier being sent to fight a war he doesn't believe in for an army in which he volunteered to serve. 9. all of the ob/gyns i've talked about this with object to elective abortions for moral reasons, but they also all respect the woman's right to choose. some of them have even gone as far as telling them how to get in touch with dr. tiller. number one is correct because of number two. Interesting. Thanks for letting us know how the vast majority of OB/Gyns feel after you spoke to all of them. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  11. That's funny, since you're the only one that has suggested that. Personally, I have no doubt that the doc knows her job. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  12. Sorry. I missed your "facts." I was to busy admiring the results of your superior American education as you bashed European countries for their high tax rates. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  13. From your article: Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, added that "[Abdussamatov's conclusion] just isn't supported by the theory or by the observations." Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  16. Yes, I think I do, at least to the extent that it's relevant to this discussion. [replies]I am TRAINED to do them. Yes, doctors usually receive training outside of the area in which they later specialize. If a octogenarian needed an emergency tracheotomy, and the only MD present was a young pediatrician, she would be able to perform the procedure, even if it is not something they typically do in her practice. She has had the training. Perhaps you've even had advanced training in the procedure (beyond med school and residency). That's not atypical for a professional in any field (as opposed to an expert in a trade or vocation). Which (to me) implies that 1) OB/Gyn clinics do not typically perform elective abortions as part of their normal practice or 2) the vast majority of OB/Gyns object to elective abortions for moral reasons. Number two seems highly unlikely, so I'll go with number one. Yes they are. But when you share those reasons on a public forum, they are fair game for discussion. A very poor analogy indeed. Few people, if anyone goes to their MD to get cigarettes. On the other hand, if you worked in a convenience store and refused to sell alcohol, tobacco or caffeinated products for religious reasons, I suspect you would be looking for a job very quickly. 17. So, are you saying that she didn't claim to refrain from doing the procedure for moral reasons? Or, are you claiming that she didn't claim to inform me that my assumption that many OB/GYN's performed the procedure was incorrect? Or, are you claiming that she did not claim to be an OB/GYN? If one of those three things is true, then my logic would be faulty. Otherwise it is sound. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  18. Still a wrong analogy. In the military, you surrender some of your rights. You follow the UCMJ. As a soldier, you can CHOOSE to act against that signed contract but then there are consequences for that decision. The needs of the military out weigh the needs of the individual. To be an OB/Gyn, although I am trained to do D&C's (laymans terms - "abortion"), I can CHOOSE not to do any elective cases that I don't agree with. In fact, I don't HAVE to do a hysterectomy just cuz some woman walks in and wants it out... and in fact I typically have to have a medical reason and pathology (meaning "bad stuff") as a reason to do the surgery. If you read my post to which you replied, you will see that I was referring to the employees claiming their rights were being violated by being expected to do their job. When one takes a job, they also surrender some rights and freedoms, just like occurs in the military. An employee can CHOOSE not to do their job, but then there are consequences to that decision. The needs of the employer sometimes outweigh the needs of the individual. If an individual is not happy with the sacrifices they have to make for a particular job, they are free to seek alternative employment. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 19. If you're gonna post a holier than thou attitude about how you don't perform the procedure because of your beliefs instead of being honest about it not being typically performed by OB/GYN's (or was that where the dishonesty is?), then you shouldn't complain about people accepting your implications at face value. 20. I see. You don't refrain from doing them due to moral objections; you refrain because it's not part of your specialization. Fair enough. My point still stands with respect to employees refusing to assist in the procedure. If their values weren't important enough to them to refrain from taking the job, they have no place to bitch about the job requirements. If they want the paycheck, they need to do their job, however distasteful it may seem. If they don't like it, they should find a different job. The analogy of the soldier picking and choosing which wars to fight is quite apt. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  21. Yes, but in order to be able to compete in foreign labor markets, I need an education that surpasses the standards of a US secondary school diploma. Like I said, I would love to live in a free country someday. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  23. I don't understand this argument. Where did I state that I would deny my employee their rights? You didn't, nor did I imply that you did say such a thing. You feel it's okay for you not to offer services that would be expected of many/most OB/GYN's, since it's your clinic, but owners of a clinic that want to offer such a service should be at the mercy of their employees regarding their ability to do so, since if the employees don't want to do their job, they can't be fired for it. If those employees lacked the integrity to turn down the job to begin with, they shouldn't have grounds to bitch about how the job violates their religious beliefs. Math tutoring available. 24. So in less than two minutes of questioning a one-temr congressman who had just left office I was able to get the answer to why we were going there. And within the next few minutes had the full story. See, anyone with a minimum of thought process would see that terror threats, etc., would have NoKo at the top of that list. He laughed that there was no way we could win a war with Korea without nukes, and any move would mean that a million man army would sweep through the DMZ and take Seoul in 3 days. He spoketh the truth. Thus, Iraq was winnable, in the opinion of the Administration AND Congress. So, I told him, elimination of terrorism wasn't the first priority. After another minute, he explained that we were foing there to "clean up the block" and help to put in a democracy in the Middle East. This would cause a good place to be that other countries would emulate, and thus stabilizing the whol area with democracies - eventually. So I asked him why not just say that? To which he replied that the american public wouldn't support the deployment, but would support it for the terrorist and Hussein aspect. He stated that he believed that there was a weapons program, but unlike NoKo, there really isn't any containment in the Middle East. So, this ex-congressman was honest upon questioning. Dontcha think that if this one-term guy knew that, the rest of fucking Congress knew that? Some guy who served all of one-term would likely have less knowledge than someone anyone in Congress, right? And now none of them will go out with the announcement that the war was for anything else. They had their story and they'll stick with it. When was the last time a politician said, "Hey. Sorry guys. I was wrong." And you didn't think to question the logic of how destroying a country's infrastructure and inviting chaos and borderline anarchy, as well as inciting a civil war could be considered "clean[ing] up the block"? It sounds more like he felt he needed something to say to get you to stop questioning him. Excellent way to completely avoid addressing my post, BTW. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!
