    How would you suggest preventing the costs incurred by smoking from being passed on to the employer or non-smoking employees? I agree that this isn't the most elegant solution, but it may well be the only legal one. Why should non-smokers have to pay more for their health insurance because their co-worker smokes? Example: If I say I was profoundly shaped by my father, without mentioning my mother, that in no way implies that I was not also profoundly shaped by my mother, nor would being profoundly shaped by my mother imply I was incorrect or lying in my claim of being profoundly shaped by my father. By the way, if you understood GAAP, you would be able to understand these simple concepts. There are no accounting tricks necessary to show that receipts were greater than outlays. The government IOU's are debt, Vinny. The cash on hand in federal accounts increased by amounts greater than the debt increased, in total for four years and without an on or off budget deficit.     Does anyone know if employers are allowed to charge different insurance rates to smokers compared to non-smokers in Florida? If not, I can easily see the motivation of employers wanting to hire non-smokers. It's not uncommon for some employers to not knowingly hire smokers already. Usually it's not hard to identify them. At least Escambia County is being up front about it. It doesn't look like they are doing anything to keep current employees from smoking on their own time, only screening smokers from new hires. While it would be better to be able to pass on to smokers the extra costs smokers cause employers and other employees to incur, if that's not allowed due to legislation currently in place, then employers aren't left with many options.     Where's the "less than one" option? I'm not a non-drinker, but I average under a drink per day. I had a Guinness earlier this week. I'm drinking a Parrot Bay Wave Runner now, since it was the closest thing to a soda in the fridge (and it's pretty damn close).     Sorry mate. If post number 1 is your explanation of your logic, it's not Jakee (or me) who is missing something. The assertion in that post rests on the incorrect assumption that someone/something can be influence by only one thing. That is not true. For example, I was influenced by my grandparents, parents, siblings, some teachers, some friends and some coworkers over the years. Being influenced by one does not preclude being influenced by another. Nothing Obama said precludes the founding fathers being influenced by the Scottish enlightenment, even if he did not explicitly make that claim. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!     Please, enlighten us. Why are you correct? From what I've read, your assertion rests on the premise that the someone/something cannot be shaped/influenced by two different things. If I'm misunderstanding, please explain how. Also, if I am misunderstanding, please explain how Obama was incorrect, since he didn't explicitly or implicitly claim that the Scottish enlightenment was not also influential.
