  1. I don't get it. I'm a clueless foreigner stuck here with an urgent overnight job (and nobody cancelled the day shift either, so it's a wonderful day ahead, and a 4-hour flight the following night). Each hour of this torture is at least making my rig closer to me by a few $'s and a few mins... (that's what I've been telling myself to keep from rolling belly up and dying; dz.com helps as well) I need a coffee.
  2. psst, I'm too cheap to upsize and I want a lighter wingloading, but don't tell anyone In fact I should be around 1.25 now, let's make it a healthy 1.15. Plus when I am all "harnessed" up in a tight-fitting rig, my belly starts protruding! besides press-ups, what are skydiver-friendly, skydiver-tested ways of taming the belly thing? especially considering the amount of beer our sport inherently includes? :p
  3. I'd have to buy that weight measuring thingy. And that's worth two jumps! Ain't no way! ok, maybe I will. Where's the challenge?
  4. Order a brand new, really expensive rig you are really looking forward to owning and showing off, but size it for a person lbs lighter than you. Just like I did. Now those are going to be nice 22 pounds to lose while I am waiting for it to be manufactured... any bets on if I will accomplish this?
  5. Hi Wendy, That's exactly why I contemplated getting a 220 sqft reserve! However, my instructor, who's been my main AFFI and coaching me ever since, is sure I will be fine under a 175. That 175 still packs way bigger than a Quick/Speed 220. So is there any reason I should _not_ get one? What's the catch with it packing so small?
  6. Thanks for firsthand experience, this is additional reassurance. A 175 is at the margin of comfort for me though, can't go smaller than that... So why you don't see many people using Quick/Speed if theyt pack that small?
  7. I know Smart is good :) ok, just talked it over with my instructor who says I'll be good under a Quick 180. So I'll be getting a Smart 175, since it's same footage and built stronger. Huzzah!
  8. Edit: yeah, I tried a different browser and their site yielded the information. A Speed 220 packs as small as 344 inch^3! What's the catch already?
  9. I am finally about to order a new container, and it's come to the question of choosing the reserve size. I am choosing between a Quick and a Smart, the pun aside. Quick 220 pack volume is 364 inch^3, and it puts me at 1:1 or a little under. However, the Smart that has a similar packing volume (of 360 inch^3) is a 150. That's a 70 sq. ft difference which I guess is taken up by all the reinforcement material on the Smart (or why else would it pack so drastically bigger?) So am I better off under a (I assume) weaker, bigger footage reserve (Quick 220), or stronger, smaller footage (not going below Smart 170 in any case) ? According to the specs I would not overload either one. Does anyone have anything negative to say about the Quick? For the reference, the manufacturer quoted 338 inch^3 for Quick 180, and 364 inch^3 for Quick 220. Stronger and bigger is the obvious answer, so let's disregard that option...for now

    cats. preferably big cats!
  11. PV's Quick allegedly packs about 10% smaller than other similar-sized reserves, but I haven't been able to find packing volume figures to back that. What's the name of the reserve you are talking about?
  12. I hope everybody's had a good laugh over this, and hopefully did not take it seriously.
  13. I somehow find it more exciting than all the z-brace/katana excitement. Does it mean we'll eventually get a reserve that packs 30% smaller than the current ones?
  14. I'll say hi to ya... better yet, I'll drink hi to ya! I'd say May and June are still prone to an occasional rain or drizzle, but chances are good July will be sunny. Of course, people will make the best weather seem cold by comparison, so come whenever, we are after your liver!
  15. when your alarm clock starts beeping you think it's your audible and wake up just as you reach out to pull.
  16. One defines the other, my dear... Now if it were "Frenchy69" that would give far more room to the imagination! Representing Russia here, hi!
  17. It's not mine, but I somehow reckon it's hot :)
  18. When we were jumping rounds, we were taught to keep our legs/ankles taut and tense and together. On my first jump ever, with a round, I was fooled by the seemingly slow rate of descent and relaxed instead of keeping taut. That hurt a bit :)
  19. Dang! So I guess I'll be sleeping by the time you get home >:)
  20. Did you use the name Antone or Billyu? :) Yeah, Skydive Extreme is the game I keep seeing. My PC won't be able to tackle the new GTA... I wonder if $200 buys enough upgrade to play it with somewhat more than 10 fps :)
  21. winning the lottery AND not diving head-in into skydiving? man, this level of sickness evades me
  22. I seriously consider buying a PS just to play GTA. Also, as a question slightly off the topic, I often see a PS2 game on ebay featuring an arching skydiver on the cover. What's this game and is it worth any of us skydivers' attention? But so far no game has been able to beat the text RPG I've been playing for the last, um, 6 years? (we got a number of skydivers playing there too, even a former DZO). Ta-da-ta. SlothMUD III Put [DZ] in title so I know you when I see you :)
  23. Now all I need to be happy is Glen Cook carrying on The Black Company. Although my fascination with HP ended after the intense involvement with the translation of 1st, 2nd, and 4th books. Perhaps if he went skydiving, I would reconsider
  24. Bearing that in mind, is anyone willing to sell me a Freedom-class board? :p (not for me per se, of course)
