All good instructors teach two ways: 1-The right/book way, and 2-My way! Side packing (a round) just streched the 4 center rear lines more than the rest of them. When are you going to make a jump with again?--Doc -

Basically the same as 'side' packing a round. Flake it and pull the sleeve down over it. Why take all that time to pleat each gore? -
How about a name and address in Fort Worth please?

Where's the Southern Cross DC-3 now?
drjump replied to BillyVance's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Billy-I just talked with the owner of the Southern Cross, Patrick Terry-817-240-4314. I was mistaken, it wasn't hail damage, it tornato damage! A few holes here and there from flying objects. Patrick said that she is under going repairs this winter and has plans for being back on the boogie circut next spring or early summer.--Doc Stewart D-2785 -
Ever jump with your canopy in backwards?

That gives a whole new meaning to: FACE INTO THE WIND FOR LANDING. -
Out of curiosity did anybody check the Pilot 150 to see if it was properly tagged with correct size?

You stole it!

Last that I knew she was parked on the ramp in Gainesville, TX. waiting to be repaired from hail damage. -
Ask Ed Duncan D-36. He lives in the Dallas area.

Wendy had a much better arch than that S/L student! I've taught many a student the hand deploy reserve method that I learned from Dave Eisnor (D-355) in 1968 at Taunton, Mass. My two chest reserve rides were with 26' Navy conicals with ma-1 pilot chutes. Subterminal openings after cut-a-ways. Soft and easy opening shocks. I glad that I never had the chance to expierence a terminal chest reserve opening!

When you hear people on the ground shouting-PULL- pull. Would that classify as audible?

That is the only way to take rigging-SERIOUSLY.

Looks good. The one I use was supplied by NASA about 35 years ago, and still works fine.

Everybody knows who they are, so the # does not make that much difference on this web site! I'm betting that they go belly up by the first of the year. And, a lot of vendors are going to get stuck with a lot of outstanding certificates.

Anybody taking bets on how long it will be before sky-ride files for bankruptcy?

IN SEPTEMBER OF 1972 THE CLUB HOSTED THE SOUTH WEST USPA CONFERENCE MEET. WHAT A BLAST FOR US CIVILIAN TYPES. $3.50 JUMPS FROM CHOPPERS! A LOT OF US, FROM THE HOUSTON/BEAUMONT AREA ENTERED THE MEET JUST TO BE ABLE TO JUMP HELICOPTERS. WE WERN'T COMPITITION SERIOUS, JUST A BUNCH OF FUN JUMPERS. HECK, WE EVEN HAD A PICK UP TEN MAN SPEED STAR TEAM. THAT WAS THE WEEKEND THAT HAROLD MCELFISH LOST HIS GOGGLES ON A FOUR WAY JUMP AND OPENED RATHER LOW ON HIS PARA-COMMANDER. IF MEMORY SERVES ME WELL HE ONLY HAD ABOUT A FIVE SECOND CANOPY RIDE! AH, THE GOOD OLD DAYS.--

Another possible problem might be that you are packing the twists with your line stows! As you grasp the lines to pull towards the bag, for the next stow, be careful that you are not rotating your wrist or hand. The line that is on top of the first stow should be able to be traced from one stow to the last stow without twisting around or under.

Canopy Strength? What ever happened to the old fashioned thumb/knuckle test? If the fabric tears it is NOT airworthy! If it doesn't tear pack it and jump it. Nuff said.

Dave--I think you are refering to Bishop's Bambo Bomber that had a "run-a-way" prop. Tom was the last one out, after trimming her full nose down! As the legend has it!
