  1. Thanks Phill--I tried an FAA search of N #'s for N927BA with out results---
  2. Russ--Any idea where that junk yard is? I logged a lot of jumps out of Boatman's Otters, back in the 70's.
  3. You are a glutton for punishment. Good luck and best wishes. Keep us posted.
  4. There were five of us in my first jump class, which lasted 2 1/2 hours. An hour of which consisted of learning PLF's off of a four foot high platfrom. Forward right and left, and the same backwards. Which were more important because Double L's most always went backwards!
  5. Why would you punch the reserve right and left to break it free? Wouldn't it have been much simplier to pull the reserve ripcord. while holding your left arm over the container to facilate grabing the folded canopy for 'throwing' it in the direction needed? But, as Wendy stated, if you cut a way you would not nee to throw it. What about your body position?
  6. You got home with lots of help from great friends. But, with friends like that who needs enemies. I remember a TPC meet, in San Marcos, when Joe Stone asked for a demo for Cardinal. After many "Hang it" were called poor old Joe just went over backwards onto the hanger floor out cold. We loaded him into the car and took him back to the motel. We left him passed out in the back seat. Some time during the night he tried to find his room and ended up in the median of the highway amd passed out again. Nice friends, drink up maggot.
  7. You must be thinking of Gary Lewis's DZ on hwy 6 in Valley Mills, just west of Lake Waco. D-18 twin beech. Only open for a couple of years in the early/mid 70's.
  8. Wendy--Where & when & from Whom did you get your Cardinal card? I remember giving a "few" demos at HPS in La Porte and in Hitchcock.
  9. One of the first DZ's in the Houston, TX area was at Cut-an-Shoot, northeast of Houston.--Ed Fitch, Doc Ananogstis and a couple of other pioneers.
  10. We used one like that back in the 70's at Houston Parachute Service in La Porte, TX. Went out of fashion when people started packing on the floor instead of a long table.
  11. Was the "Aero Country", that you listed the same as- Aero Valley in Roanoak, TX. A DZ run by Ed Dowdy and Edna White in the early 70's? I beleive that strip is now called NorthWest Regional airport.
  12. Also, singing campfires and mushrooms!!!!!!!!!! Riding the rotating beacon with a Thompson.
  13. I can think of 3 in Mass. that are gone, Taunton, Mansfield, and Norflok. Several in the Houston area, Cleveland, Galveston Sky Divers, Angleton, Wieser.
  14. Most of the jumpers that make mistakes remove themselvs from the sport. Just read the fatality reports.
  15. SCOTT MEEKS WITH THE PIE AND DON STEWART, WITH THE BLACK HAT AND STOP WATCH. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THAT WAS A FAST WINNING TIME.
  16. That answers who and when. But, what about where?
  17. Just carry it on board! Make sure you have the TSA and cypress paperwork handy to show at the inspection line. I went to Fl. over Thanksgiving without any problems (leave your hook knife home). When boarding the MD-80 the line stopped near the cockpit, the flight crew was just behind me. The co-pilot asked "What's that over his shoulder?". The pilot replied-"Looks like a Reflex to me." Yup, no problems on this flight.
  18. Russ--How about a date and names to those smiling faces.
  19. By the picture I see you finally got smart and went to a full face helmet. Now about those jump "boots"!
  20. Christmas/New Years of 1974 three of us from Houston (Jerry Hanus, B-8914, Mike Neidigh, C-10562) made a road trip from Texas to Southern Cal. We stopped at several DZ's going and on the return trip. I will never forget Elsinore and Patty Wickliffe, D-1696. What a beautiful bundle of joy and life, she was! She made us feel right at home and welcome. That is one DZ that I will never forget.
  21. "Combat" RW, motorcycle helmets required! Ah, the good old days when skydiving was dangerous and sex was safe. Thanks for the memories, Howard.

    Hurricane Ike

Any one have any damage reports from the Houston area drop zones?
  23. Hausse--What are you takling about with your question?
  24. You are correct John, look up. Several years ago, in Granbury, Tx. we were looking for a cut-a-way main and free bag that landed off of the airport. The main made it all the way to the ground. We found the free bag, cut-a-way handle, and reserve ripcord in three different trees. All within about one hundred yards of each other.
