That story sounds like a load that I was on in Casa G. in December of 1974.

Looks more like an SST rig, or a Security Cross Bow. Hard to tell from that angle.

Texas Parachute Council was very active in the 60's and early 70's. Stevie and Gus (Doc) Anagnostis, Sherry and Jerry Schrimsher were some of the founders and held various offices within the TPC. One of the duties of TPC was to host quarterly state wide parachute meets. Points were awarded in style and accuracy in order to select a "State Champion". It is still a good idea to remove any skydiving bumper stickers when driving through Georgetown! That used to be an automatic traffic stop!!!! I still wonder who tied the motel manager to the bed in the pool? I thought Carlos fell out at the DZ in Dickenson.

Mark--Carl Maroon and I used to run Houston Parachute Service in La Porte, Tx. We started a student DZn in Cleveland with a C-172. Shortly there after Hall brought his DC3 in from Millican and A&M. Ever have any of those wild mushrooms from the woods in Cleveland? Don Stewart Nscr 677

John--Iv'e got the photo you spoke of. Edith gave it to me years ago. It looks like it was taken at the old Spaceland airport, and was signed by all of Doc's old jumping friends--Dave Boatman, Roger Pickens, Mike Bate, .. D330, Mike Smith, Laird Cogburn, Mike Turroff, J. Wilkens, Jack Joerns, Bob Cockran, Diane Stenson, Chuck Stenson, Jack A ..D-8539, Frank Wilson, Ron Mills, Lindsey Carlton, Jim Parker, John Hill and a couple of others.---Don Stewart D-2785 bob

Hi Pat--I can't answer your question about the origin of the Galveston Skydiver's patch, but I'll give Jack Joerns a call for some info. Last I heard (years ago) Joe Stone was selling metal buildings in OK. I've got one of those old patches sewn on my gear bag and am asked about it all the time. Short lined PCs!!!!!!! Oh what fond memories.--Don Stewart D-2785

Who's Made Civilian Jumps from Military Aircraft?
drjump replied to wartload's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
In 1972 the Fort Hood Sport Parachute hosted the USPA '72 south west conference meet. The Army supplied UH-1's for Style and Accuracy, and 4 way, Chinooks's for 10 man speed stars. This was the meet that Harold McElfish had a ten second PC ride! Seems like his goggles blew off in FF and he could not read his altimeter! Doc D-2785 -
In answer to your question the Southern Cross was recently purchased and moved from Ca. to Cleburne, TX.. It is being overhauled and should be hauling jumpers by June ' 05. D-2785

John--By any chance was that Carl Maroon? Doc

Boatman started bringing the Houston Metro Otter to Spaceland in the spring of 1971, loading jumpers there and dropping them into The Galveston Skydiver's DZ in Dickenson, TX. Just five miles the other side of the gulf freeway at Hwy 517. The first Otter entry in my log book is April 24, 1971. Don Stewart D-2785

Keep dreaming Dave! I was not photo-genic, and am still NOT. Doc

I made one jump there in April of 1969! Ted Strong was demonstrating the "Mattress", that he had built. Several of us from Taunton, Ma. went down there for the weekend. Jumped a C-205, on a 7-TU, 28' canopy and landed closer to the target than Ted did with his square! Blue Skies-Don D-2785
