  1. I'm not exactly sure how to take that, Matt. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  2. I like to take the following (measurements are deliberately mixed up to reflect the international nature of this site ): three cups longtime posters two imperial pints name-changing trolls one liter of single-tandem postwhores a pinch of intellectual snobbery a jigger of right-wing demagoguery a shot of bleeding heart liberalism a quart of unfiltered drama 500 g green moderation 50 g red moderation 1 gallon whining Mix all ingredients over an open fire (for safety, this is best done in an outdoor location, preferably a large Bonfire). 3. Shit girl, I coulda told ya bout the sugar free syrups a long time ago (sorry). Workouts are going well .... staying pretty consistent. Food's aight too, though I'm finding myself craving sweets again. Grr. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 4. ... about this very serious topic? (SFW) "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  5. Careful on that unknown road. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  6. I know the who... but I haven't heard the why. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  7. Well, even though he's not green, they still let him post for some reason. I actually think it's not as much fun because it's not as much fun to make fun of him anymore now that he's not a moderator. 8. I think you'll probably learn more by talking to residents and finding out about the association itself. We have to have an HOA because it's four townhouses but the way it's laid out we have some common property that makes it technically condo. Three of the four units have the original owners, the fourth has changed hands just once in the 6 1/2 years since the units were built. We meet maybe once a year (formally), we all get along fabulously well and hang out socially, and for us, the HOA stuff is a formality we have to deal with because the bylaws say so. Example: bylaws say no more than two pets per unit unless you get approval of the association. My neighbors had three cats for a short period of time. They sent out an email saying "hey, the HOA bylaws say we have to get approval, everyone cool with it?" and we all agreed it was fine. But I'm sure other HOAs would be much more anal retentive, so just reading the bylaws probably isn't going to tell you what it'll really be like to live with an agreement. 9. Didn't you used to be a postwhore or something? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  10. Well, if your profile is accurate, yours was around 23 years ago. My FJC was just over 3 years ago, and "try twice pull silver" was the instruction for a hard pull just that recently, so it was pretty crystal clear to me, even that recently, that there was no problem using my reserve even while my main stayed "tucked away." So not all of us are getting scary instruction. (And, in fact, I did indeed get to confirm that the reserve works just fine without the main being out at all while I was still on student progression but that's a story for another day). 11. Nah, I was only guessing, since no matter how many phishing schemes I try, I can't get your password out of you. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  12. One makes this place a lot more like Juicy Campus than the other. It's pretty clear to me which one. My best guess as a non-moderator is that all this questioning isn't going to get anyone any closer to understanding "the rules." Fact is that there's probably not a list of things that you can and can't do, there's just a general philosophy and atmosphere that the owner of the site tries to maintain, and he's got several people that he asks to help him maintain it. They're all human beings (well, I'm not 100% sure about billvon, I think he's got at least a few mechanical parts, but I digress...) and are all going to interpret things slightly differently and it's probably going to vary from day to day and even from hour to hour, and will vary based on their mood, their tolerance, their patience, on how recently they've had to clean up a similar mess, and whether any of us like it or not, on who is posting it. It's kind of like employee dress codes. I've worked at places that have had them. I've worked at places that have tried to spell out what's allowed and what's not allowed, with great detail, and those places have usually been the ones where the dress codes have failed most miserably because everyone tries to push the envelope around the edges. I've also worked at places where the expectation is set that employees will dress in a professional manner, and the culture of the company is what enforces how people dress, and no HR person has ever had to write a policy saying "you can wear this but you can't wear that." 13. With this crowd, I can only imagine how the poor toy would get violated. But it does sound fun. I'd be in - we've got a few landmarks up here. 14. Thanks. And I just have to share this story about how much I totally dig my doctor. While I was waiting I was reading an article in Seattle Metropolitan magazine - the new issue's all about fitness, and it was focusing in on local Olympic hopefuls and their fitness and eating routines. I noted the difference between two of them. One, a swimmer, who said she eats around 4000 calories a day (but when your average day includes 3 hours of swimming workouts, that makes total sense). The other, a soccer player says she has a glass of OJ for breakfast, a salad with tofu for lunch, and dinner varies but it's usually Thai food. I told my doc about this and she said "I need to write a letter to the editor about that. That's ridiculous. She's completely malnourished." We had the appointment, then she grabbed the magazine, and said, "I need to pull that out of here - I don't need my patients reading that kind of stuff." Love her. 16. Checkup with the doctor today. Blood pressure ... down. Was in the borderline high range, is now in the high normal range. Still want to get it down to optimal, but we're headed in the right direction. Weight ... down (I think by her measurements 27 lbs since December 17). Other labs are improving though I couldn't begin to explain the numbers, they were looking better (cortisol, leptin, insulin were all things she mentioned). After three months on high dose Vitamin D supplements, even that's improved, though it's still low (damn Pacific NW lack of sunshine!), so I'll continue supplementing that. Another set of labs in six weeks, and at some point we'll do another body fat percentage and VO2 max test to see how I've improved over my (rather pathetic) baseline tests. But so far, so good.
