All Walken all the time... how can you not love this vid? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF5cBoAV5Ys[url] "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

I don't swing that way, but if I did, she'd be my type. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Sadly I fear that the experience many have had with this dealer will wind up being summed up with "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." "Proper size for a woman to be" or "Shah must be right"
NWFlyer replied to turtlespeed's topic in The Bonfire
So I'm curious - if 5'5" and under is the "proper" size for me to be, where should I take off the 5" from my height? I'm thinking if I took it off the top I'd end up looking pretty gruesome with only a small part of my head remaining. If I chop off at the ankles, it might be less noticeable, but then there's that lack of feet problem that I'd have. My knees have been nothin' but trouble - maybe I'll just chop those suckers off and reattach the legs. That should get me five inches. The answer is going to be "it depends." Depends on the dropzone, depends on the person's role (coach, AFFI, full-time or part-time, etc.) For instructional jumps at most dropzones, the instructor does not pay for his or her jump, and receives some amount on top of that for their time, which may vary by the type of jump or the role the instructor plays on the jump (main side vs. reserve side AFFI, for example, may pay differently, a coach jump may pay a different amount from either of those). Instructors are usually paid for teaching ground school or packing classes, too. Instructors will generally pay for their fun jumps, though they may be given the opportunity to buy jumps at a discounted staff rate. What you call fate was a series of choices over 8 years. It's possible to make different ones at any point over those 8 years and have your "fate" be very different. Have you ever looked around - and I mean really looked around, maybe well beyond your circle of friends - and noticed that there are all kinds of people in happy relationships and all kinds of people in unhappy relationships and all kinds of people in relationships that fall somewhere between the two extremes? There are rich people who are blissfully happy. There are poor people who are blissfully happy. There are conventionally physically attractive people who are with conventionally physically attractive people who are blissfully happy. There are conventionally physically attractive people who are with less physically attractive people who are blissfully happy. There are less physically attractive people with less physically attractive people who are blissfully happy. There are short people who are with tall people who are blissfully happy. There are fat people who are with thin people who are blissfully happy. There are fat people who are with fat people who are blissfully happy. There are thin people who are with thin people who are blissfully happy. There are old people with old people who are blissfully happy. I could go on with just about any trait, but I hope I've made my point. How, exactly, are all those people managing to be happy? There are rich people who are miserable. There are poor people who are miserable. There are conventionally physically attractive people who are with conventionally physically attractive people who are miserable. There are conventionally attractive people who are with less physically attractive people who are miserable. There are less physically attractive people with a less physically attractive partner who are miserable. There are short people who are with tall people who are miserable. There are fat people who are with thin people who are miserable. There are fat people who are with fat people who are miserable. There are thin people who are with thin people who are miserable. There are old people with old people who are miserable. How, exactly, are all these people managing to be miserable? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. you might be able to ride as a volunteer with your local fire dept or ambulance crew, especially if they are county based, and not private, not sure how it works with private companies but most govt owned institutions will let you ride as a third rider. if you like it, you might want to consider getting your EMT liscense, and getting on part time, its a pretty fun gig. I know enough firefighters/EMTs/medics that I'm sure I could arrange it (in fact I already did when I lived in Washington, though it was a quickie when we were meeting our friend for lunch). You can't throw a rock without hitting one at my home DZ. As for actually doing it for a living, nah, I don't think it'd be for me. I have an immense amount of respect for what those folks do, but I have a pretty cushy full-time gig going on so I'll leave the hard work to someone else. Funny that's what his wife thinks as well. Shah, my friend, you're going to do awesome with the right girl for you. That, right there, is a perfect example of the type of insecurity-baiting I was talking about in my first suggestion to you. That sounds like a totally fun experience - I'd be into that as an adult. I think there are such things as citizen's police academies (though I'm betting they've been cut recently b/c of budgets) and probably the same for EMS, I just haven't looked into it. I'm giving you straight-up advice on how to find what you want. No snark. Your friend is unhappy with his choice of a partner. He feels trapped. That sucks for him. But you're trying to generalize that experience to every relationship that involves a woman who is >Size 8 and you can't. Nor can you generalize that all men who have relationships with Size 4 hotties feel happy and fulfilled and not in any way disappointed with their choice of a partner. Go read davelepka's post. Like Wendy, I cheered, too. It's the best advice you've gotten in this and any thread. Nope, because I am in a healthy relationship and I tend to get myself out of unhealthy relationships if I find myself in them (whether they be romantic or otherwise). Offended? Where'd you get that from? I'm SO glad you corrected yourself there and made sure to point out that all guys are not you, and you do not represent all guys. Otherwise, I was starting to wonder if my boyfriend was really a guy, because by your standards I'm undateable, yet I'm in a drama-free, stable, long-term, loving relationship and ... things that make you go hmm. What is the highest you would pay.....?
NWFlyer replied to againsthumanity's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The last time we had a big spike in the 2007/2008 time frame I saw prices go up and back down in Washington and Northern California (those are the two areas for which I was most familiar with the day-to-day prices, though there may have been similar adjustments in other regions as well). So it does happen. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -

My response was deadly serious. Given what you value in a partner, that's the surest way to ensure that her body will remain what you want it to throughout the relationship. Well then, by all means, don't get together with one. Here's my tip - look for insecure chicks with daddy issues and eating disorders. The ED doesn't necessarily have to be full-blown when you meet her, but make sure that you comment early on in the relationship on how much she eats on dates, even if it's just a salad. Make sure she knows how important her body is to you by letting her know how hot it is all the time. Problem solved. You're overthinking it, Shah.
