Johns Hopkins Retracts Newsletter: "They Would Have Died Anyway"(?)

When I read your title I took the question mark to mean you were wanting to question the death toll from covid. FWIW -
In pace requiescat

Are those 74 million angry Americans willing to stand up and shoot to kill the 80 million of their brothers and sisters who would also be angry?
-
Yet you choose to live not in a country that allows you access to whatever firearms you choose, but instead in Europe where they are forbidden.

Today's headline Trump story is his threat to run again in 2024. The most crazy part of that is the R party is in such a mess that he probably could get the nomination. Even though with all the advantages of incumbency the was rejected by the deep electorate in favour of Sleepy Joe. The other party leaders must be going out of their minds.

Nobody wants to be associated with Thiokol. They take the blame in the public eye. But the fact is their people warned NASA and tried to stop the launch. But they would not listen.
-
I can just hear Trump. He’d be saying “I have this thing and it’s golden. I’m not just gonna give it away.”

It’s not like Kemp and the Georgia R party are against doing everything they can to suppress D votes. They just can’t find a way to do it that will satisfy the Thief in Chief and get away with it.

It is always difficult and contentious trying to determine how many people died of the virus. The most common way that the epidemiologists would approach it is to look at the statistics. They would compare the number of deaths during the period of the pandemic with the number of deaths that could be expected during normal times -
There is only one other SARS virus known. MERS is similar to it. I think we can all thank God, or our lucky stars, or whatever you worship that COVID-19 disease does not have the severity of outcomes either one of those do. COVID-19 is a far more potent spreading virus, but its morbidity is much much lower.

Sure he does. It’s not possible that he’s lying. He’s not ever been known to lie.

It's like, someone built a wall or something on the border!

He is being somewhat arbitrary and capricious.

I've thought about the victims plenty. Executing people actually does exactly nothing to help the victims though. I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind, I know that won't happen. But my feeling is that we just don't need CP. We don't have it in Canada or, as you know nearly all of the western world. This does not mean that there are not many many people in our prisons who deserve to die for what they have done. And yes, I could personally bring myself to kill to avenge a loved one. I am against it because it would make a killer out of me, and all of us. And it means we would have to have a machinery of death to carry it out. Complete with workers to make it happen. On top of that it is of course inevitable that innocent people will be executed. And then layer on the subject of the post, the sheer randomness of who gets executed. When I add it all up the negatives out weigh the positives. YMMV

Well, after you puke remember to clean up after yourself. I read the story you linked to and found the last sentence to be a good example of what the thread is about: His accomplice, Stanley J. Berkeley, was sentenced to three life terms for murder, rape and abduction. I agree, dude deserved to die. The fact the you knew the victim is not really relevant though.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. , I wonder if Ron will start referring to him as Robinette?

God's law or man's law?

Many religions oppose the death penalty, including famously the catholic church. Which AG Barr is a member of. China is not known for its religiosity, but it is the world leader in executions by far. People's attitudes toward this transcend their feelings about religion.
-
Yes, I agree with this 100%. The unevenness of this punishment is astounding.
-
I actually think it is the AG who is driving this push for punishment rather than Trump. I have mixed emotions about this. Executions are wrong, but I don't actually feel sorry for any of the people set to die, they all pretty much deserve it. It is wrong because of what it does to the rest of society to operate the killing system.

Pay attention to what people are saying please. Which is simply that some people seem to be having long term damage, including some who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms. How you made the leap to "organ failure" is beyond me. We don't know how many. We don't know lots of things. People can have reduced function without having organ failure. People can have damage and still live. And people can have this virus damaging parts of their body without having the respiratory symptoms that are causing the hospitals to fill up. We all would do well to read and understand what each other are saying before jumping to conclusions and sending off replies.

You should get to work on the races for the GA senate seats and stop crying over the spilled milk. The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is rapidly fadin' And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'

Here is a study based on dialysis patients who are tested regularly. It indicates that at the time nearly 10% had antibodies. It is dated Sept 28, so it 8 weeks old and COVID has blossomed quite a bit since then. The 20 to nearly 25% estimate is not unreasonable given the information available. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/09/less-10-us-population-has-covid-19-antibodies-data-show
