  1. A lot of these ideas sound like infringements.
  2. That is absurd. Unless you add the qualifier "to me". Although there is a majority of Americans who feel that way there is a large minority who don't. On the other hand nearly everyone recognizes the importance of the 1st. The 1st an inspiration to the world. The 2nd is something the world either laughs or shakes it's head in disbelief at. And like I said there are many Americans who agree with the rest of the world. One day they will be the majority. That will not on it's own get the 2nd repealed, but likely fear of that happening will lead to a more sensible interpretation of it along with more sensible rules.
  3. What you are saying is that the 2nd amendment is worth the cost. I would disagree.
  4. And most of those are suicides, which many people look at differently from other deaths, rightly or wrongly. Large numbers of the others affect marginalized populations. Overall, the chance of the average voter getting shot is rather low. But not as low as it should be. All these are factors in why Americans are mostly more willing to accept the damage. It is someone else’s problem. edit, that number does not include suicides. There were 38000 gun suicides in 2018 alone.
  5. The American gun culture is willing to accept facts like those and even far worse. This discussion is pointless. Nothing will change until the majority of the American people want it to change. I know the majority is in favour of background checks. But that won’t be enough.
  6. Changing the constitution would not ban anything. And eventually it will be changed, but likely not anytime that I am still alive. Sooner or later the powerful people will come to fear having an armed population and change will happen. In the meantime you will just live with the on going damage. And you are correct, the issue will drive voters. Most Americans think the 2nd amendment is a positive thing at this time.
  7. The experience of the Rest Of The World says you are wrong. America is an outlier in all statistics involving firearms. You are not only blinded, you are willfully blinded.
  8. My understanding that both of them acquired their weapons within a couple days of the shootings at their local gun shop.
  9. Apparently even Wendy is blinded. The Constitution contains an amending formula. That is because the God like figures who created it did not consider it to be perfect.
  10. Only if there is a drastic change in how the SC interprets it. And that will only happen if people like you demand it. There have been many amendments to your constitution. Your nation would survive another one.
  11. That is nothing but a weak rationalization. You are in denial. Kalend posted the murder by gun rate for developed nations. It clearly shows America is unique. You clearly state that the 2nd makes America unique. Why do you refuse to see that these are two sides of the same coin? You also stated that it is a people problem. And it is. America is a nation of people. And when you have people some of them will be violent. When violent people have easy access to weapons some of them will murder. The only part of that set of facts that can be changed is the access to weapons. But change involves sacrifice and not enough of you are willing to trade freedom for safety. And that is mostly because chances are that it is someone else who will pay the price. And that makes the lot of you selfish.
  12. Yes, and that means that you would rather accept all the gun deaths that to give up your right. And that is the selfishness at the heart of the problem. You are simply unwilling to give up that right. And you think that you can solve the problem without making the sacrifice. And that is blindness. Not even America can have her cake and eat it too.
  13. This is the quote from you that made me call you one of the blind ones. Just like so many others you instinctively reached for the beloved 2nd as an excuse and a comfort. I can see why you are different from many in that you have taken a hard look at the possibility of changing things around the edges. But what really needs to happen is another Amendment, or more likely a strong societal push on the courts and the legislators to change how it is interpreted. A majority of Americans are not willing to work for that goal. Would you vote to amend the constitution?
  14. Inflammatory? It is simply the plain truth. Americans are just plain blinded and you personally are among the most blind.
  15. It is a people problem. It is caused by the selfish entitled American people who feel that the "right" to possess the tools of war as toys is more important than the damage it causes.
  16. For crying out loud. Isn't there a rule against starting and participating in a thread solely based around discussing a decision from the mods? Why do we even have mods if threads like this go on? It's getting to be like a freaking grade school in here.
  17. It is noteworthy that there are responses instead of just ignoring the post.

Ummmmm.....The Catholic church is pretty well "morally compromised". No confusion there.

Yes, the government here did all they could as early as possible and is still taking political heat over the fact that we are not able to vaccinate the population as quickly as the US is due to supply shortages. It would be worse without the contracts signed early. I am 63 and still not eligible for an appointment. It will likely be about 3 to 4 more weeks until I actually receive a shot. Even then I will have to wait up to 120 days for the second shot as the Province has made a decision to get first doses into as many people as possible. The effort here has been very efficient with well organized centres getting people in and out on time with little waiting in lines.

Clearly the US has taken a look at the supply of the Astra Zeneca vaccine, which is not approved for use there and likely will not be for quite some time if ever, and decided that it should allow export of the product before it expires and perhaps they will have to pay for it. The USA does not need or want this product. Nothing is being given.
  21. Which made me think about it and look for the Amazon policy. https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/help/external/200164950
  22. Wendy, he may be correct. Ten more GOP reps in the house and a couple senators would have allowed Trump's attempt to steal the election to succeed. And there is a good chance the SC would have stood by. The civil unrest over the summer would be explosive. Still, McConnell's threats are empty.

Canada has an agreement with Astra Zeneca, not the EU and not the USA. The source of the supplied product is not part of the contract.
  24. The barrier to entry is also greatly increased. It would result in fewer better DZs and would allow pricing to be less cutthroat.
  25. Another 8 victims of the mighty 2nd Amendment.
