  1. Well, it isn't really a problem that occupies my mind in my real life. It's really just here that I have a fair amount of focus on it. I spend a lot of my time in the US and I am never actually concerned that I may become a victim. And neither are most Americans. Which is why the majority are simply prepared to tolerate the situation. Most of my frustration comes not from the facts on the ground, but rather from people who just won't acknowledge the problem for what it is. America is still a great place, even with the relative insanity of the 2nd!
  2. Nothing wrong at all. As long as American society is willing to tolerate a firearm death rate at least 5 times higher than anywhere else. And police who shoot first and ask questions later because everyone is armed. And angry people who lose their temper and shoot. The 2nd Amendment is absolutely the issue. It is an anomaly in the civilized world. It is a gross error. And it is nearly impossible to fix until the carnage gets greater.
  3. Yes, of course it is a reasonable compromise. A good girl deserves a choice. One who chooses to have sex does not. But the newly created complete human inside the rape victim? Well.......too bad little fellow. The fact is that abortion is a sad and kind of gross action. No one is "in favour" of abortion. If you don't want one, don't have one. You know what to do to avoid getting a pregnancy. You seem to feel that your viewpoint is morally superior to that of anyone who disagrees. It looks bad on you to insult us like that. The world is full of men, and yes, sometimes women who talk like you but when faced with a problem in their own life choose to secretly go to a clinic far away. Have some respect for them.
  4. Basic biology and the law both say differently. It has a potential to become a human. You don't have the courage to say if rape victims can have an abortion or not. I have to assume that is because you understand that the answer would destroy your premise.
  5. That is a huge drawback.....lots of people in jail because of that little snag. It not only needs to be transported, it has serial numbers and laundering it can be very expensive.
  6. No, my knowledge is incomplete. Are you saying that each and every transaction can be followed if the starting point is known? Is each coin numbered individually?
  7. Actually, it is vitally important that governments get a handle on and stop the anonymity of crypto. The difficulty of collecting ransoms is the main reason kidnapping is no longer common is first world countries. If Russian or any other criminals can get away with these payments, so can others and we will soon be seeing the children of rich people needing heavy security.
  8. Yes, there is an unknown amount of Bitcoin, and I suppose others that may as well be in a hole in the bottom of the sea because the keys are irrecoverably lost. But that is a different matter from having the FBI able to track the transactions.
  9. If they can do that it means one of the key advantages of crypto has been lost. If that is so its value will take a big hit.
  10. Then your opinion is moot. It means you are merely echoing some religious doctrine and have no courage of conviction.
  11. No one ever said that a woman can not be patriarchal. You ignored the question last time, so I'll ask again. Is abortion allowed in your personal moral code for a woman who is pregnant by rape?
  12. This bunny has been hanging around the yard for about a month now. We aren't sure what happened to its ears, but April has named him Lucky.
  13. You are correct there. For the foreseeable future. The 2nd will not be changed until something in the American system changes. And that won't happen without SHTF someday. Long after you and I and Ron are long gone of course. But knowing that is not likely to stop me from pointing out the folly of the situation over and over again.
  14. You don't have to be religious to be patriarchal. But it sure helps.
  15. But he absolutely does not want the 2nd changed. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. Until people like him change their mind about the "Holy 2nd" no real change will happen. And that is most likely beyond the lifetimes of all of us.
  16. The 2nd is currently being interpreted in a way consistent with what it says. It needs to be changed. I can not see how the courts are in error. It is very short and it's meaning is fairly clear. People like you and Keith and our other Joe and millions of others need to get behind the many decade effort to change it. Or, most likely not and you will just go on accepting the carnage because in your heart you don't want to give up your "rights". Because most likely it will always be some else's child shot and you won't be personally affected.
  17. Again, it is not all or nothing Joe. Open your eyes to the possibilities.
  18. Joe, you are missing the point. America has evolved a culture where it is normal to drive around armed. Your otherwise mostly civilized nation is getting to the point where any public conflict can easily result in a shooting death. All because you demand "rights". Tools of war are also tools of hunting. Taking a gun from your home on a hunt, and owning guns for that purpose are a completely different thing. It's always the same with you people and your lust for weapons. You assume losing the absolute right to whatever guns you want mean that the evil government will take all of them away and leave you feeling naked and vulnerable. That is not what gun control is. It is not an all or nothing proposistion.
  19. This is what America's love affair with the tools of war brings. Ordinary people carry guns and then when they get angry the sometimes use them to get even. Road rage is common enough everywhere. The 2nd Amendment allows this stuff to happen all too often. I will never understand why so many Americans embrace gun rights as an essential part of the nation. https://us.cnn.com/2021/06/07/us/california-road-rage-arrests/index.html
  20. We get bunny nests in our city lot yard nearly every year. Probably every year, but we don't always find them under the tree in the corner. They usually get found and eaten by crows before they leave the nest. They are always in the neighbourhood, but the population stays pretty steady. And I suppose predation is the reason.
  21. Digging up this thread because of a deplorable action on Memorial Day in Ohio. https://apnews.com/article/race-and-ethnicity-memorial-day-american-legion-microphone-b3086dc908b8aeb053c39e3901a83cda
  22. Are you a true believer in "life beginning at conception"? Or are you one of those fake believers who would make exceptions for cases of rape and incest?
