Erm....well...maybe if you elaborated upon what it is I should be getting over - because apparently I've forgotten - I might be able to answer that... I stand corrected. I didn't go to college, but even I know about proper accredidation of quotes. Skydvr, I agree...I was wondering the same thing. Then I read through the rest of the thread, and saw no notation which corrected an error...so I attribute it to plagiarism. I could be wrong... Gee. For someone who is writing their master's thesis, one would expect proper accreditation of original authors at the very least... http://myhero.com/myhero/hero.asp?hero=gandhi Authored by Jeff Trussell... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

War in the Iraq, At what point do people think it should end?
Michele replied to larskjargaard's topic in Speakers Corner
Bill, I think that's a really gratuitous statement. It is inflammatory, and designed to evoke guilt in people...and I'd think you could do better than that. Here's my position... I care about dead and alive Iraqi citizens, both adults and children. However, I care more about my country's citizens than I do about the Iraqis. And frankly, if you asked the Iraqis who they cared about more, it would be their countrymen rather than ours. Note I am not saying that American lives are more valuable. Rather, I, as an american, do consider my countrymen's lives before I consider anyone else's - be it Roratongan, Siberian, Iraqi, German, or whomever. And know what? There's not a damned thing wrong with that, either. Again, consider that if asked, Roratongan, Siberian, Iraqi, German, or whomever would consider their countrymen before ours...and that's as it should be. So knock it off with the guilt and the implied deservedness of terrorist/insurgent attacks. It's getting boring, and is simply an emotional argument made to inflame others. Isn't that trolling? If you want to discuss it, then do so with some of the rationality you're "known" for...and back it up with historical stuff, ideology, and comparisons; playing solely to emotions is beneath you, in my opinion. Lesbian Becomes College Homecoming King
Michele replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
You know I like you, Narcimund... But that comment coming from someone who immediately trashed a thread about a dead baby simply to stir shit - the thread being a serious commentary on the morals of some people, and had the potential to be an "interesting and serious thread, in your words" - was appalling. Now, why don't you start a real thread, one which is serious and honestly discusses YOUR feelings about homosexuality and it's acceptance/non-acceptance in today's society? I'll participate in that one, but this one is simply degenerating into anger and namecalling, and there has been far too much of that lately on these boards... I was a hero on friday.. at least thats what they say....
Michele replied to droquette's topic in The Bonfire
Thank you, Danny. You really are a hero. When one reaches past his comfort zone and helps anyone, anytime, and especially with such stress as this accident created, all I can do is sit back and admire...and hope that, should circumstances present themselves in my life, that I would have equal courage and calm mind, and get the job done like you did. Very, very well done...and you are indeed a hero. When we meet, the beer's on me. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~ -
My Dad went to Darren's memorial/funeral today. He said it was great, as far as these things go. He and Dad were decent friends for many, many years. Brilliant actor, with an incredible sense of irony and humor...and Darren will be missed. Dad's feeling it tonight. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Crash won, and rightly so. Even though Paul is a good friend of mine and I'm rather biased, I still think that was the most amazing movie, and very well written (by Paul, who also directed it, and co-produced it). I haven't seen BBM, although Ang Lee won for best director, as well as the original story won for best adaptation. Both of those are no small acheivements. And there was another one (best score? Not sure...), too. So it wasn't shut out at all. I was very disappointed in the animation awards; I really wanted The Corpse Bride to win, but it didn't. Oh well. Well, you might not be impressive, but that summary was. (just a note, though..if you really look at history, you'll find that the jews were persecuted far earlier than Christianity's beginnings.) Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Jeff, I have no words of solace...just know you, your Mom, and your sister will be in my prayers and that if there's anything I can do, all you need to do is ask. You're right; cancer sucks, and waiting sucks. My love to all of you. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Darius, a sincere question. Do you see any jews as innocent of the atrocities you believe have occurred? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

I've got six cats. One refuses to give anything up for Lent. As a matter of fact, she insists that since it's Lent, she should eat more. She's a bad kitty. She wanted to go to Mardi Gras this year. Then there's the devil cat. She really is one from hell. Full of beans, absolutely dominant, and completely territorial. She's evil if anyone even thinks that they can use the bathroom counter. Of course, I've got the nun-cat. She hides, and only comes out if you've switched the light on. She's scared of the dark...and she has none of it if she can help it. Thus the nun-cat. Of course, then, there's the centralist. As in, the world revolves around her. Only her. No-one but her. She is the world's center. The rest of the world is superflous, existing simply to clean her box and get her food. And there is the terrorist. Some would call him a jew, some a protestant, and some an islamic. But really, he's nothing. He's motivated only by that which he can tackle, stalk, and attack. If you show weakness around him, your arm is shredded. You are either with him, or against him, or both at the same time. There is no neutrality. And last but not least, there's the buddhist. She exists, therefore she is. She finds happiness in the smallest item - a hair band, a ball of fuzz, a shadow. She loves the sunshine and the rain equally, and has created great kharma for herself. She occasionally chants, as well. I don't guess I've done well by my cats, but that's all right...they're happy. (BTW, as I typed this, my terrorist jumped up into my lap for a cuddle...) I think there are two parts to the answer... One, you have to realize part of life is having those feelings, angst, anger, and so on. If all you ever had was happiness and peace, there would not be challenges to overcome, and in the overcoming, the growth which occurs. That growth is vital to you and your life...for without it, we become stagnant and boring. Even happily bored is still bored. The second part is to just let the past stay in the past, and move on from here. It's the most simple, difficult thing to do, but it's just that: it's in the past, it's not changeable, it's done and over with. It's in ago. Let it stay there. Change what you can in your own self about how you reacted to the circumstances, if necessary, so that the experience is not repeated...but you can't change the first experience. It's done with. And any emotional bullshit you still have about it is because you don't realize it's over and done with. Let it be done with. And then, of course, decide where to hide the bodies, and go make a jump. Oh, Beth. What you're going to do for him now is what he's done for you for years; all the love he's given you will come back to him now, with your touch, your hands, your voice, your scent. You will help him start the journey, and he will be there to greet you once it's your turn to start that...until then, he will live in your heart, and love you again, forever and always, just curled up in your soul, loving you there. I've been where you are...and I know it's so terribly tough. But also know that love is the one thing that's indestructable...and you will always have his. The Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to some- one here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. author: unknown Rest easy, and know you will be joined again. Girls, how much prior sexual experience do you want your SO to have?

Brilliantly said. Me too!! And one that is willing to talk about his fantasies and hear about mine...and maybe experiment and explore a bit; 'cause who knows what gets discovered that way? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~ -
Indeed, one of the most versitile actors we've seen. I don't know how many Saturdays I spent watching his movies, and then of course the 3's Company series, and The Andy Griffith Show...what a brilliant actor and comedic talent. Rest in peace, Mr. Don Knotts. And thanks for all the laughs... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Sundevil, I read your other post. I don't see you as not in a good mood, but rather as hurting and debating a subject which might not be the best one at the moment. We can pick this up another time...and you take care. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

No. Sorry if I was unclear. I'm speaking to the law of it, rather than the morality of it. For me, there can be a distinct difference between the law and morality. In this case, abortion is not something that I am willing to impose my morality on another for. Nor shall I make judgments on those who do or do not have abortions. I say it is between them and God...and that is a realm I don't think the law should be involved in. Is that more clear? Yes, in a perfect world, in most cases the father would have a say. Not the ultimate say (that should remain solely with the woman), but have his feelings and needs heard, understood, and valued. Wow. Please don't assume what I have to conclude in that argument. I have concluded simply that it is not my place to say to someone "you will have an abortion" (in the case of handicapped children) or "you will not have an abortion." It simply isn't my place to make the decisions for another person. Not my place at all. It is only about personal choice. Pure and simple. Nope. I don't get worked up, and try to learn some things along the way. It's not always easy seperating the wheat from the chaff, but most times, when it's successful, I've found I've learned something, or considered something from a POV I hadn't in the past. And that's the best news possible. Hug her gently for me, and know that I continue to keep her, you, and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Love to you all! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

This is a hot, interesting topic, and this reply is NOT directed at anyone in particular. For me, it's all about choice. I hear people saying "well, we should be able to do (currently illegal) drugs, it's our life..." or "we should be able to own the weapon of our choice to protect ourselves...it's our choice." It's all the same issue, boiled down to it's essence. It's about choice. Freedom to choose an action, and live with the consequences. It's not about the state telling me what to do with my body, how to protect my body, or what drugs I can put into my body. I get to choose...and handle the consequences, as well. It's no-one's right to tell me what I can and can't do with my life. Right? Specifically for the topic of abortion, SD is completely wrong for passing a law which inhibits choice. I can go further and say it's a law which promotes discrimination, because it only affects one gender. I can go further than that, even, and say that it is skewed to be racially discriminating, as some statistics show that minorities have more abortions than do white women. But what it really is, is an abuse of a woman's right to choose the path her life will take, to accept the consequences of either carrying an unwanted pregnancy to term, or to abort it. (And there are deep consequences of termination, I guarantee you that.). It's about choice...what is right and moral for me cannot be automatically assumed to be right and moral for another. It is not religious; that's a completely different argument. It's about choice. It's not about the life of the mother. It's not even about the right of a child to live if they are handicapped. It's about one woman's choice, involving her, and her partner (most times). Only peripherially is it about a Dr. And it is NOT my place to tell anyone, ever, what they can do with their body or not do with their body. If I make a choice, it's my choice to make. If you make a choice, it's YOURS to make. We will both live with the consequences of a series of choices that we make on a regular, daily basis...but don't tell me what I can and cannot do with my body, no more so than I get to tell you what YOU can do with yours. I get to be in charge of my life, and you get to be in charge of yours. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Not sure. I don't know enough about Islam to know whose fatwah outranks whom, but I do know that this fatwah was issued by the holy leader the President listens to more closely then Khemeni. So I don't have a good answer for you...good question, though. On a side note, someone issued a fatwah with a million dollar price on the head of the cartoonist from Denmark... I don't know islam as well as I would like, but I've read a few places that indicate their version of Armaggedon is similar to the Christian one, although with a different "winner." I've even heard that the new President is looking to bring it about, and has felt "chosen" for years. Decidedly a worrisome event... GAVercetti, Likearock is right; they are closer to uranium enrichment now than they were before...and with a new president who is accelerating events. Sigh...
