    Hi-ho,hi-ho

You jump out of planes, Mujie....you're plenty brave enough to do whatever you need to do! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

  3. From what I understand, Senator Wellstone, his wife Sheila, their daughter Marcia, three staff members, and two pilots were the ones killed. Senator Wellstone is survived by two sons. Perhaps nothing has been said because of the notification of family members. Then again, when Payne Stewart died, not much was said about the other folks in that plane, either. 4. Quade, let's move this over to pm's, o.k ? I seem to be missing something... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  5. Hi, Quade. So what you are saying is that there are two options, one being the brake line adjustment and one being the riser option. Other than cost, why would it be better to shorten the brake lines first (which becomes permanent after it's cut) and not buy the risers in a longer length as was suggested (which is not necessarily permanent)? Grumpy - Yes, it did seem like carts and horses, but she made the transition to the smaller canopy and was fine with it...and keep in mind that I didn't understand the whole conversation, and may have recounted it incorrectly...and what I liked and respected about that was she was attending the class to be safe about it, and waited until Jim saw her land several times in the old size before trying the new one. Her wingloading went from 1:1 to 1.1:1...a 150 something to a 130 something (Sabre2?) Dunno if I recall that right, though. She also had not ordered the container yet. She was seeing if it was feasible or not for her. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  6. Yup. I add the following. a. Check around you for others' handles/straps b. Check again for others' handles/straps c. Check all mine about 47 million times d. Check others' handles and straps... At the door, one last touch to all three, and smile and go.... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

    Thief!

First of the year, my number was stolen, and it took more than 7 months for it to get straightened out. I handed the bad guy over, name and phone number, but he was not prosecuted because the company took too long to figure out it was stolen (there's some sort of moritorium on it). The amount he stole from the credit card co. would've gotten the bad guy a felony conviction here in the state of CA, but nooooooooooooo, they didn't prosecute.... Fuckwad Bastids, all of them.... 8. me too!!! Thanks! Two days later, and I'm still bursting with pride. I actually am begninning to understand some of this stuff...just a little bit, but enough to know that I am teachable, and I can do this... Whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! 9. Try running a search - seems to me there was a thread about it recently, but I can't remember who/what/when.../ Yes, it seems to have happened. Makes the phrase gear check a little more impactful... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  10. Hi, Lila... Of course it's normal. You're changing everything you're used to, except the plane. Lots of what you feel is because you haven't jumped in a while, I'm guessing, and yes, you're normal. This shit can really play with you. Here's what you do. Try to get a good night's sleep. Make sure you get soemthing into your belly before you go to the DZ. Go a little early, drive around the actual dz and see what sort of problems could be there for an off area landing (any high tension lines? And roads - where, what, how heavily traveled, etc.) Talk to your JM and get really comfy with the aerial photograph so you can see it from the air. And then, smile. Even if you don't want to smile, smile anyway. Breathe from your belly, and smile some more. Every time you feel that twinge in the bottom of your belly, smile some more. Then get out and jump, and smile, breathe, smile. And then smile again. Dunno why smiling actually works, but it does in fact work. And then come home and tell us how wonderfully it went. I'll be looking for lots of smiley icons in it, too.... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  11. Having had one major and two minor surgeries on my eye in the last calendar year and likely needing one more in the next few months, I would say that my surgeon would have grounded me if there was any possibility of that, especially because my right eye is "fragile" as is the sinus where he drilled a bunch of holes...he kept me grounded for exactly 4 weeks after my major one in June, and his recommendation when I got back was "perhaps a full face helmet...but only if it doesn't bother you too much". I didn't go into a full face (can't afford it), and while I have crashed badly, nothing ever happened to the vision. Sore, yes. Achy, sure. Actual problems? Not a one. 16. Morning, Quade... Told ya I didn't understand everything...LOL... Also, want to make a correction...when I yanked the collapse cords on the slider like I've done on the 230, the slider came down in front of my face at eye level. The slider, when I pushed it back up to the top of the risers was prolly about 3 inches above my head. Still not a huge distance, but want to make that correction here. When I didn't yank the cords of jump #2 and 3, it stayed on top of the plastic things which are at the place I described above. And further info: I just measured the risers, and from the bottom of the metal ring at the top, which is covered by the plastic, to the stitching of the risers where the rings start on the bottom, the riser measures 16 inches. If you include the metal rings, it is just about 18 inches. They are also thin, I'm guessing what's known as "mini" risers (to be honest, I didn't ask, and I am comparing memory between the 230's 21 inch risers and the 210's 16?/18 inch risers for thickness, so I could be wrong). Maybe the container has something to do with it. From where the three rings connect on the Infinity I rent to the top of my shoulder is something like 4 inches. The container doesn't fit properly (because it's a rental) and I have noticed that I cannot reach over my head unencumbered because of the shoulder straps. Therefore, there is a loss in the % of range of movement (I dunno, maybe 15-20%?) which shortens my reach as well. So I am not getting the full measurement of my arms above my head (27 inches.). Here's how I am picturing it... From bottom of the 3-ring connection, -4 inches from 18 risers...14 inches left. From shouldr to the point where the line from the top of my head intersects the line going up from my shoulder top is 10 inches....now there's 4 inches left (Don't understand how I would use the range of motion shortening, but I think it factors in here somehow). My hand, from wrist/palm to middle fingertip, measures 7.1 inches. If I take my hand, and place them on top of my ears on either side of my head, that's where the toggles are. That's where my hands are in full flight, and to take up the slack prior to deflection of the canopy, my hands have to move down to my collarbone. That's the start of my flare point....in other words, I have 4-6 inches of slack. And everything gets shorter if you measure not from the 3 ring, but from the stitching over the 3 ring. Of course, I think I'm helping, but I am likely just confusing everyone and everything. What I know for sure was that Jim looked at my risers before I jumped, and he said "Oh, short risers, tell me how it goes during the jumps", and then afterwards, when it was apparent I wasn't finding the bottom of my flare, he told me to get 21 inch risers. We didn't go through the measurements like I did last night and this morning. And as I said, he's seen this canopy, seen me flare to the bottom of my reach in moderate winds (+/- 8 knots) and still not get all the speed bled off...so I'll follow his recommendation. Still curious, though, as to why you think the shortening of the brake lines would solve the problem instead of swapping risers, all my info notwithstanding.... 20. Kewlio. I found it. Now I have to see if I can recreate the problem...and screen capture it and bring it in... Thanks, Pete! ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  21. Geez, well, I found the printscreen button (prt scrn) but have no idea about graphics program. Notepad isn't a graphics program, is it? LOL...I am inept. thanks, hot Pete.... Now I have to figure out if I have a graphics program..... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  22. Hi, HH... Dunno if it's me, or if it's something else, but if I try to look up someone's profile, I get the error/session expired/login needed page, even if I've already been logged on (posting, etc.). I've also gotten other code kinda things (yeah, I don't know what I'm talking about re: computers), a whole page of stuff. And no, I don't know how to screen capture...LOL. Just thought I should fyi you. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  23. No, selling my canopy is not gonna happen. Maybe in 200 jumps or so...but not yet. And thank you for thinking this should be added to the column section... Quade? Here's how I understand it. As I am new to the technical languaging, I will avoid it. But I will explain this as best I can. 1. In full flight, no tension on the toggles at all, hands looped into the toggles, my hands at eye level. 2. In full flare, hands down as far as I can get them, toggles in my palm instead of fingers (better grip), hands in a fist, triceps aching, elbows locked, my hands are about midthigh. 3. Slack taken up from full flight to no deflection of the tail but at the point where the slightest movement will start to apply brakes, my hands are just above my collar bone. 4. From the crown of my head to my palm, I measure 42 inches. From the crown of my head to the top of my shoulder, I measure 14.75 inches. From my shoulder to my palm, I measure 27 inches. From my collarbone to my ear, I measure 6.2 inches. My chest measures 41 inches (not necessary, but thought I'd interject that one...). 5. The brake lines were installed by PD just prior to my buying the canopy, and were measured and are standard length. The work was done by PD (yes, I have the invoice). 6. The slider, when stowed, is just above eye level, resting at the bottom of the lines, situated on top of the riser plastic guards. 7. The risers I was using on the rental canopy measure 21 inches. I have used 22 inches, and couldn't reach the slider. To take all the slack out of the lines, and not deflect the tail, I have to move the toggles down about 6-7 inches. That's the start of my flare point. I don't know where the end of my stroke is, because I can't reach it yet. The brake lines, being factory manufactured and installed, aren't yet the problem, while installing longer risers will correct the issue. From what I understand, the canopy is in great trim, and as the risers didn't come with the canopy but were lent to me from my rigger, I need to buy a set anyway. But Jim didn't know that, so it doesn't factor into his solution. Shortening the brake lines, at this point, may make the shrinkage of them more apparent (or sooner, I can't figure out which), while riser length will alter my flare point to where I can find the bottom of the flare point without leaning forward and distorting my body (which would mean I couldn't land well, because I'd be releasing the flare when I straightened up for touchdown, which would allow the canopy to surge forward - not something good when you're close to the ground...) I suppose you could say it like this: the length of the brake lines aren't the problem, the risers are. I am curious as to why you believe that shortening the brake lines would be better than getting new risers, other than expense (and lord knows I can't absorb that expense right now too easily). Jim made the recommendation and I will go with it. I'm sorry I can't give you a better explanation, but that's what I understood, and I will defer to his knowledge and extensive experience. Maybe he'll explain why if you ask him at the DZ? Or I can try to get a better one next time I'm scheduled to play with him. 24. [hands Jack a tissue...stop that right now!] What's interesting was that I had exactly the opposite feeling...hey, this sorry sack of potatoes hanging under this thing finally understand what happens when "a" or "b" occurs...and what to do (or not do) to handle it. It has never been the canopy - and it has always been "me"...my participation, my knowledge, my understanding...my actions/inactions. And yes, I'll meet you at the swoop pond in 5 years - sooner if you want to picnic there... Chili, dude... It hasn't ended. It has, honestly, just begun.....
