I'm fresh out of the bath, hair damp, smelling like a girly-girl. I'll be joining Anne with a nice glass of red (or maybe merlot?), and trying to figure out which bill to pay, which I can let ride, and how to get through yet another month of no money....Eloy is looking more ghostly as I speak. Will call my brother later, I think, and kibbitz about the kids' Hallowe'en, and what to do for Dad's 80th B'day in December, and then, most likely, write a bit and take some tylenol pm and go to sleep....only to wake in November, all the same problems facing me, and spend yet another day trying to figure out how to get my life back on track. Or at least more near the track. Shit, I'd settle for within 50 miles of the track. I think I'd rather look at a Victoria Secret catalog. Third Hallowe'en here at this address. First one, I got a large bowl out with candy, cut two jack-o-lanterns, and sat with the door cracked open, porch light on. No one came by. Second one, smaller bowl with candy, one pumpkin, same thing with door and light. No-one came by. Sigh, says me, so this year....Nothing. Not a thing. No bowl, no candy, no pumpkin, no light, nothing. I console myself by realizing that no candy in the house means I won't be tempted to eat it, but it makes me sad. I've been called 3 times, and served on 2 juries. Hung one, because the evidence was "almost" there, but not...exactly...enough. And then, considering the alibi the guy had was the sheriff who said he was in jail at the time, it was kinda obvious to me (there were other issues complicating things, as well). That deliberation was really, really rough, but in the end, two other jurors changed position and voted not guilty, as well. What the jury tried and did to convince me/us that he was guilty of something, even if it wasn't what he was charged with - man, it was bizarre in there. Gave me nightmares, it did. Second one was guilty all the way around. No real question. Dude shoulda pled out, but he didn't (dunno if he was given the chance to, but he shoulda...) I will say what a great opportunity to see first hand the "system" working, and a great opportunity to really, honestly experience something that lots of people don't do, for whatever reason. I know it changed my perspective on several things. I believe it is something which everyone should experience at least once, no matter the hardship created by it. Have always voted, will always vote. Seems like one of the few times I cana actually be "heard", you know? As for Marc, yes, true, every vote does count. I start jury duty on Friday, too. Actually, this is what I'd do... 1. Shoot him in defense of my family and myself. 2. Scream for someone to call 911 3. Spend the next few minutes giving CPR if there was a possibility he could be saved (I aim for center of mass...in the largest area of someone's body...their chest...) 4. Spend the next 12-24 hours being interrogated by the cops because I live in a non-carry state. 5. Call my attorney, and have her bail me out. 6. Spend the next 2 years of my life justifying my actions to police, newspapers, lawyers (civil and criminal), jury, judge, and God... 7. Learn how to balance the loss of a person's life because of my action with the fact of the lives of my family and myself were saved because of my action. Just my thoughts... Nah, it's because you can't sing..... I still am stuck on that phrase from "Blinded By The Light", you know, the one where they are singing about being "revved up like a douche like a roller in the night..."? I know that's not right....but that's what it sounds like. And I have been far too lazy to look up the words.
